Today we have for you a beautiful animal collected from Nuclear Lake in NY. Based on the general structure of head, trunk, and foot, as well as the eddy currents created by the cilia for feeding, our animal appears to be a rotifer. But, I've looked at a few examples of each of the 26 or so genera of rotifers, and I can't find a genus that seems to contain rotifers with such long toes! So if you have any ideas of the genus, I'd certainly love to hear them in the comments section.
Being transparent, we are afforded the opportunity to see the organs of our microscopic animal. Below the mouth we see what I believe to be the mastax, which functions like a pharynx. Emerging from the pharynx we see a fine shimmering like, which I suspect is the esophagus. This line leads to a darker structure, presumably the stomach.
As the foot moves we see the contraction of muscles. Small movement of the foot seem to involve largely muscles in the foot, but large twitches appear to involve muscles of the trunk as well.

Love this! Hope you keep posting videos. I just got into microscopy and I’m using TH-cam and textbooks to learn.

Nice video! Maybe it is something of the genus Monommata?
