“Utterly Negligent Chief Executive!” Ex-Post Office CEO Paula Vennells SLAMMED By Ed Vaizey

  • Paula Vennells, the former Post Office chief executive, may have been told about a “covert operations team” that could remotely access the Horizon system and adjust branches’ accounts two years before she appeared in parliament.
In newly surfaced allegations, Ms Vennells was briefed by the Post Office’s general counsel that a unit in Bracknell’s Fujitsu headquarters could access subpostmaster’s accounts remotely.
Tapes obtained by Channel 4 show the Post Office’s chief lawyer Susan Crichton confirming twice that Ms Vennells was aware of the allegations. In the audio recording - dating from 2013 - Ms Crichton can be heard saying: “[Paula] knows about the allegation. She knows we are working on it.”
The Talk panel delve into the subject by debating whether Vennells' ignoring of the system faults was deliberate.

If sub-postmasters were stealing or whether they lost the money accidentally it did not matter because they all signed a contract which said they had to make up any shortfalls at the till. So they were only robbing themselves and therefore it was pointless to do so. That should have made the bosses realise that something had gone wrong with the system. It’s a shame that the bosses have been traumatised into amnesia but if their memories are so bad, they won’t notice that their homes have shrunk to the size of an 8x4 prison cell.

The problem is that the establishment will not come for one of its own. There is a de facto mutual conspiracy of tolerance between them. The chance you have stepped on someone's toes or behaved in a less than strictly legal manner is far greater for the great and the good because their interests and activities cover vastly larger areas of society than most of us... that's you and me. If Vennells is held criminally responsible for the disaster that is the Post Office it will set a precedent for criminal action against other members of the establishment. None of them want to face the justice that goes with the dictum: authority must be accompanied by responsibility. The desire for unaccountable power is behind the failure to make her face justice. It is an ugly reality than none of us would welcome a world where every infringement or misdemeanor would result in action against us. Vennells is all but bullet proof.

3:54 correct, the former CEO’s lack of inquisitiveness is astounding, unless it was deliberate.
The fact that the POL CEO didn’t seem to hold anyone accountable for appointing all these ‘thieving’ SPM is also astounding.
Apart from the harm to SPM, their actions has resulted in any actual fraud or theft has now been covered up and/or made undetectable by the POL and this alone should put the former CEO and other executives and managers in jail/gaol.
If you ad into this the POL’s failure to properly comply with the criminal law, properly promulgate governance etc amounts to a failure of management, and should also result in them being held accountable in some way either criminally or civilly.

The preconception that PO had that they were being ripped off by some Post Masters and that Horizon would find those Post Masters out is pivotal to explaining some of the POs otherwise odd behaviour. The shame is that there probably were some that were ripping them off but that Horizon was so unreliable that it uncovered the wrong Post Masters and if it did by chance uncover some of the right ones it's unreliability means its impossible to tell good from bad and even if it could, it can no longer be relied upon as evidence in court because it's so unreliable.

What is still unclear to me is the purpose of the remote access to the system. Was there actually money missing from the sub Post offices or was it only according to the Horizon system? It is clear to me that the Postmasters were treated horribly, but was there actually any money dissapearing into thin air?

    Fujitsu covert operations team
I wonder how many of them are still employed at bracknell
If so what are they up to now
Bracknell must be a really stressful place to work
The media the public the politicians all watching fujitsu
    At bracknell
    Who can fujitsu staff trust
Will their colleagues blag them in
Can the staff trust their managers
All of those secrets that have to be kept
And then they all have to deal with their own personal conscience
    Innocent people going to jail

Jail time plus pay up the cost of her criminal activity.
If the sub posties go to jail for being innocent these weazels need to be bankrupted and jailed.
When innocent people are jailed bankrupted.
Why should the taxpayer pick up the bill for the coverup.
