I even liked Knightmares and City of Bane, I thought they were important for the story that King wanted to tell. However I read his run all at once in trades after a long Batman break, so I imagine it being more frustrating when reading it on a monthly basis. A lot of plotpoint's in Kings run took a long time before the payoff (and people seemed to have given up on the run before the payoff).
I like the more muscular look of wonder woman cant wait for them to add facial hair and to change her name to wonder it - what started out as as a s&m character is now
Can't wait for Tom King to have Diana tie up Steve Trevor up in her lasso and he breaks down, bawling his eyes out about how sad and pathetic he is and how he needs Diana because not strong enough to go on without her. Then Diana will pick him up in her arms, cradle him, kiss him and tell him how weak he is but she'll be strong for the both of them then they'll make love while Steve weeps like a baby.
Oh West remember in the Hawkman run in a Hawkman run they separated shyara and Kendra to be their own hawk people so Hawkman is with Hawkwoman and Kenda Sanders is her own Hawkgirl. So now Kendra gets to be her own person without having been tied to Hawkman or the forever lovers thing because Hawkman is now with his true love hawkwoman.
I don’t understand why this is so difficult for them. All they need to do is put together some solid creative teams that are consistent. Editors need to actually edit. I would pair a writer with two good artists on each book and have them rotate arcs. That way the artists get consistent breaks. Keep those creative teams on the book for as long as possible. Make it part of the agreement. Incentivize them to want to stay on a book by giving them bigger opportunities in the future. I would also consider taking someone who is a really good writer, like Jeremy Adams, who isn’t super well known and I would put him on a big book now. Try and build the talent you have. Batman will always sell. Put an unknown like Adams on it with your best artist and then you have a new writer you can bank on (as long as he tells a few good Batman stories). Don’t get me wrong, I love Shazam, but wouldn’t it have been a better idea to maybe use Dan Mora on one of your flagship books? Or leave him on Worlds Finest. This is what I mean. They have a good thing with Worlds Finest and now who knows? Mora is going to Shazam with Waid, are they continuing Worlds Finest? DC just seems like a mess right now.
Dan Mora usually does 2 to 3 comics a month. He said he is continuing worlds finest and is even on the solicits for may issue. I wouldn't be worried about him leaving.
@@WeirdScienceComics True, not everything is gonna work out. If it isn’t working out, you pull creators off of books. Tom King was allowed to stay on Batman for way too long. The sales were down on Batman while he was on it which is hard to believe.
I have certain hope for Simon Spurrier writing Flash. His 12 issue Hellblazer run is one the very few highlights in DC recent years. For WW, well King at least got some talent if he wants to tell a good story he can, definitely better than the current creative team. I feel really sorry for Adams. The guy has true passion for Wally West. I hope he will have a great time writing Hal Jordan GL. EDIT: I am a little worried they may pull PKJ away from action comics now that he is going to write Stewart GL, same as what they've done to Adams. That'd be a real shame.
Looks like someone is not so subtly telling us Wonder Woman is getting the AXE. My eyes were rolling so hard at the premise. As for Flash, looks like I'll only have to get my hands on the Adams' run for the foreseeable future.
Whoever came up with the idea of kicking Jeremy Adams out of Flash needs to be fired. I thought DC improved when DiDio left but apparently there's still such a long way to go. You know what, just let all their characters go public domain. Maybe then we'll get people who actually care about the characters writing them.
I think WW is one of those characters that just needs to be put in the vault for a bit; they don't know what the hell to do with the character. Same with Marvel and Captain America

As long as they leave Carter Hall and Shiera out, they can do whatever they want. I never really liked Kendra even when Geoff Johns was writing. Venditti gave the perfect ending to those character and the lore but well.
I am pissed that my favorite writer Jeremy Adams got cut off the flash because his story was really great and badass and seeing Wally west my flash being a great father to his wife Linda park and their kids Irey west and Jai west was really awesome and tons of fun and now to see him gone and being replaced by Si superior is just wrong and mess up on so many levels it ain't even funny but just sad and depressing at least in my opinion.
For so long, Wonder Woman's title has been in an awful position. Rather than a promotion, this may represent a demotion for King. Take a look at past sales data...no one is purchasing this book. Putting him on it will be a true test for King and his fans. My expectation is that there will be some FOMO. All collectors will buy in on the relaunch and it will pop a big number. As it has been for some time, it will quickly fall back below the top 100.
Did I see that strategy correctly? They think events recapture lost fans? I would really like to know where this is coming from as one of the reasons for leaving I hear often is event fatigue. And manga, the current sales juggernauts, don’t have those at all. I would have thought offering a core Batman or Superman book with a great team at discount would tease old fans back way, way faster than any event. Or is this some kind of „it worked with rebirth, so it must be events that bring back fans“ approach at life? But rebirth was the erasing of New52 and just brought back the fans New52 lost due to high quality and old school canon. Maybe my view is completely off and have zero instinct on this, but „events bring back lost fans“ sounds as backwards as is possible to me.
For Flash, may Jeremy Adams have a good run (pun intended) on the Flash and hope that the next writer can make the Flash fun and interesting. Also, Looks like issue 800 is going to be a good comic because Flash writers of the decade (Mark Waid in the 90s, Geoff Johns in the ‘00s, Joshua Williamson in the ‘10s, and Jeremy Adams in the ‘20s) are going to recount all of Wally West’s history from his first appearance and pre-Crisis origin in 1959 all the way up to the present.
Yeah, Flash 800 is probably the first anniversary anthology I've been excited about. Pretty rare that DC gives you a group of writers like that on the same project
At this point, I don't think they'll care as DC comics continues to pissed their customers off so many times it's becoming a joke and just wish DC go bankruptcy
Kendell is not married. Shayera is Hawkwoman, married to Carter. Other than that, I think you are right on Flash and WW. I have been enjoying Adam run with Wally. As far as King goes, he has written Nighwing, Batman (no wedding, killed Alfred, among other things) Waly (destroyed him completely) Arsenal (killed) Human Target (killed Guy) Danger Street (haven't read yet but haven't heard anything positive). I'll give him a chance on WW because something may click if he can be a given an Editor that can steer him to not make the same mistakes.
Goodness no wonder Harley quinn is taking Diana place as DC's female hero when they give her this kinda writer. Granted Harley only popular because she's a "hot skimpy clothes lesbian clown girl" still s*x sells trash.
After Heroes in Crisis, I told myself that I would never buy another Tom King (as a headliner) book. But I have an almost 35 year run of Wonder Woman, so I am going to have to make a painful decision… buy the King books or stop buying new Wonder Woman books forever (because I can’t stand broken runs). Ouch… I am leaning towards the latter. I hate King’s freakishly depressing, hero-breaking writing just that much. The Flash is another one of my favorites that I have a long run of. But while I do think Spurrier is a really strange choice, I don’t actually hate his writing, so I will give that one a go.
(it won't happen but) if Marc Silvestri drew WW for 12 months & Tom Taylor wrote it focussed on super hero action (she's the most powerful woman on DCs Earth)
Her title has only been bad since 2018 when Greg Rucka left his second run. Before that we had Perez, Loebs, Byrne, Jimenez, Rucka, Simone, so many good books
Take a slight page from The Super Friends when Darkseid was fixated with Wonder Woman, and use him as her main antagonist, her version of Superman and Mongul. As well, other heroes can weave in and out in a Brave & Bold fashion (especially characters that have fallen by the wayside over the years). This would keep Wonder Woman entrenched in the DC universe rather than an outsider. Most of all, the book needs to written as fun action-adventure.
For Hawkgirl, to fix Kendra Saunder’s history, I would have her be born in 1980 on pre-Crisis Earth-Two. She would have a unique childhood with her parents until her parents died in 1997, causing her to be taken care of by her grandfather Speed Saunders. After Zero Hour in 1994, Shiera Saunders’ soul would inhabit Kendra’s body in 1998, causing her grandfather to train her to become a superhero. Shortly after her 19th birthday in 1999, Kendra would make her debut as Earth-Two’s second Hawkgirl, following the legacy of the original. That same year, she would join the newly-reformed Justice Society to be part of the next generation of heroes and fight the good fight. By 2001, the Earth-One and Earth-Two Hawkman (Katar Hol and Carter Hall) would be resurrected on Thanagar on Earth-One because of their similarities to each other and because Kendra saved them. This would cause Katar Hol to travel back to Earth-One to reconnect and reconcile with his wife Shayera Hol (the Earth-One Hawkwoman) and for them to continue to become public heroes in Midway City, while Carter Hall (whose physically 25 because of Katar Hol’s physiology and vitality being transferred to him) would travel to Earth-Two and rejoin the JSA. By 2002, Carter Hall (who has the memories of all of his entire lives) and Kendra Saunders would move to St. Roch to become protectors and to become curators of the St. Roch Museum. In 2003, Kendra Saunders would meet her daughter (who was born in 1996) and would interact with her. This would cause Mia to be inspired by her to imagine herself as Hawkgirl in the future. By 2007, Kendra Saunders would travel to Earth-One and join the newly-reformed Justice League and form a romantic relationship with Roy Harper Red Arrow, before she left the Justice League and her relationship with him to focus on her own life on Earth-Two. After the Blackest Night in 2009, both Shiera Saunders (with all the memories of her past lives) and Kendra Saunders (with her and Shiera being separate entities) would be resurrected, causing Shiera to become Earth-Two’s first Hawkwoman in 2011 and to spend time with Carter Hall Hawkman and for Kendra Saunders to be active as a superhero outside St. Roch. By 2016, Kendra Saunders would reveal her identity to her daughter Mia, and Kendra would tell her that she is her mother. Kendra would tell Mia everything she needs to know about her and why she had to give her up to a loving family. This would lead to Mia forgiving her mother for what she did and for her to take her mom’s mantle as Earth-Two’s third Hawkgirl (after Shiera Saunders and Kendra Saunders) and for Kendra to become Earth-Two’s second Hawkwoman (after Shiera Saunders). Since 2016, Kendra would train Mia on how to become a superhero and have a mother-daughter relationship. This includes Mia joining the JSA and continuing its legacy of it. By Dawn of DC in 2023, Kendra would be 43 years old (but physically 36 years old with the vitality of a 26-year-old), and Mia would be 27 years old, in which both of them would continue to become heroes and fight the good fight. That is what I should do to fix Kendra Saunders Hawkgirl.
Tom King can’t write an in continuity story and he can’t write an ongoing. He does best with those 12 issue maxis that are technically elseworlds stories. I’m sure he will be off the title in a year or less.
Love the t-shirt. Have you watched the hilarious battle battle between Red Death and Batwoman in the final season of The Flash? 😂 Couldn't stop laughing.
Tom King on Wonder Woman? Really DC? Do you hate Diana that much? With that plot synopsis, I can see a thinly veiled, very heavy-handed, bash you over the head with it commentary on US immigration policies or something of similar variety. No Tom Taylor on The Flash I see as a win. I can't name a single book written by Si Spurrier, so maybe even when the stories will be bad they won't do any damage to the character. Fingers crossed. The name of the woman(?) writing Hawkgril sounds like a car name. That powerful connection to the Nth metal will probably reveal that in some of her previous lives, Kendra was actually Ken Saunders. Man, they really have no clue what to do with these awesome characters. This Universe is f_cked.
The problem with Hawkgirl is she is as confusing as Hawkman now. There are two Hawk ladies in the DCU - Hawkgirl Kendra Saunders and Hawkwoman Shayara Thall. Hawkwoman is with Hawkman. So who Hawkgirl is and what her history is makes no sense anymore.
Tom King is here for foreseeable future thanks to James Gunn's Supergirl announcement. And, yes, King's Wonder Woman will sell better than the Ayala, Cloonan, Jones, Phillips moment of Wonder Woman and Amazons because things can only improve from absolute rock bottom. King's premise does not excite, but here for the (shit)show.😂
Tom King is THE worst writer for superhero comics and he knows it. He’s literally being paid to destroy every iconic DC character and it’s clear that Jim Lee and the rest of editorial hates these characters and are doing an awful disservice to licensing. The only saving grace is that nobody reads these books.
I’ve really been enjoying Jeremy Adams Flash book and it will be sad to see him go. I’ve really enjoyed Pasarin’s artwork when he was on the book. Cruz’s art during most of the Minute War storyline has been bad. I remember his older Marvel stuff. Spurrier is not a good match for the Flash and I’m ambivalent about MD jr’s artwork.
That Flash mask looks horrendous--i don't know if it's the disturbing hollow eyes or the awkward nose covering but something in that new Flash cowl is definitely not working.
As worried I am for Tom King on Wondy, I'm more concerned with Hawkgirl finally getting a book but it's by the author who gave us the DC YA novel Galaxy: The Prettiest Star which is a trans teen novel were from what I've seen was very confused on what it was suppose to be there. Didn't need to photo to help confirm "diversity hire" status. I am curious how King's run will effect Wondy supporting cast especially with Donna on the Titans aks new JL replacement team or others who were born/grew up in Man's World like Cassie and Yara.
Wes, great video as usual. Very informative. DC and Marvel never learn. You're absolutely correct. Why is Hawkgirl going to Metropolis? Why isn't she with Hawkman? It's such utter nonsense. Again DC is hiring terrible writers, editorial staff, and artists who can't match a good story with art to make a good DC character for their comics. Why can John Stewart date multiple women in the animated "Justice League/Justice League Unlimted" (JL/JLU), but Superman or Batman can't. I never liked that series and never watched seasons 3 through 5. I never liked the subplots in the show and how they portrayed Wally West's "The Flash" in the series. As a friendly reminder, that series and the rest of the "Timmverse" including "Batman Beyond" all take place on an alternate Earth, Earth-12, and it's not part of the DC main continuity. I know a lot of TH-camrs who are 35 and younger liked that series a lot. I don't know why, but I'm glad it took place on an alternate Erath and isn't part of the DC main continuity. IMO, it would be cool if Hawkgirl dated Superman while in Metropolis, but the DC writers would never let that happen as Superman must be with Lois Lane. Yawn! I think there will be another DC reboot by 2030 or maybe much sooner. The same goes for Marvel. Why is Peter Parker/Spider-man fighting demons, demonic figures, and supernatural villains lately? I didn't know he was secretly Dr. Strange. Why isn't he fighting The Rhino, Electro, or Mysterio anymore? Marvel will be rebooting "The Amazing Spider-man" (TASM) comic again by 2026 when the current story arcs fail again. Vol. 7 will be on the comic book stores' shelves by 2027 or maybe sooner. Nothing exciting about DC or Marvel Comics, their live-action TV shows and movies, or animated TV shows or movies except for "Superman and Lois" premiering this Tuesday, March 14. However, I don't know if this will be its last season or not because the show only averages between 800,000 to 900,000 viewers. That's not a good audience #. Yet, I was glad "Young Justice was canceled and there won't be a season 5.
I congratulate DC for making me have zero interest in my lifelong favorite team: The JSA. The new series bores me and has limited focus. The new Huntress makes me appreciate the original Earth 2 version even more. As usual, the owner of my local comic shop supplies me with old DC and Marvel books from the 70's, 80's and early 90's. I'll gladly pay hard earned money for those.
Si Spurrier; Gutsville, Hellblazer, Crossed plus 100, Coda, Suicide Squad blaze, The Simping Detective, Alienated are all ranged from good to great. I don’t know if he’s a good fit for the flash but the guy can write comics and has proven that for over a decade. At a time that DC are handing out jobs on the basis of identity politics this could be far worse. We all knew Adams was leaving. Be thankful it’s not Tom Taylor.
"A couple of months ago, I was told my time on the Flash was coming to an end with issue 800.” “I was (AM) very bummed about the decision.” I've fallen in love with the West family and had many more stories in mind, but, they said they wanted a new creative and tonal direction, and, well, that's that," Adams continues. "However, I AM forever grateful for my time with the West family and all the adventures we've had together. I also wanted to say a big thank you to the Flash Family - you guys are the best fans a nerd like me could ask for."
In other words: DC: Adams. We like you but your Flash run doesn't fit our cynical world view so we are going to remove you. Adams: But people love my work DC: We missed the part where we are suppose to give a crap.
Well, darn, DC doesn't want me to buy anything! I almost asked why DC is pushing horror so hard...but I guess it's because indie horror sells and it's a super "grown up and mature" genre....but who wants Wally West in horror. As far as Wonder Woman, ok I guess. The character isn't anywhere right now, so she can only be deconstructed so far. Hawk Girl...meh, not interested. Steelworks, well, the whole premise is John is passing the mantle to Natasha. I've read that story several times over the last few years, so don't need to pay for that again. Detective Chimp...yeah, I don't really get the attraction to those stories. Unless, will Bat-Cow, Titus and Ace be there? But maybe they will all be top sellers.
The problem with DC is that they're not telling universally-acceptable stories. It's a strange contradiction, but they focus entirely on superfans and nerds that know everything about the history of DC, but also produce stuff that subverts the history that those superfans know, so the actual buying and reading audience is miniscule.

@@Harleyxjokerforever nailed it
Then Wonder It would be hired instantly to write one of these trash comics.
Wonder X
That’s how we got Tom King!
@@WeirdScienceComics True, not everything is gonna work out. If it isn’t working out, you pull creators off of books. Tom King was allowed to stay on Batman for way too long. The sales were down on Batman while he was on it which is hard to believe.
Detective chimp sounds neat. That’s just not a headline.
I’m still probably buying it. 😅
I'm worried more about Action losing PKJ since he's writing the Hulk for Marvel soon.
Si Spurrier is one of the worst writers in comics today
Where is your proof 4 that statement?
@@zemox2534 The comics are the proof
@@nWoJeffDW I read his hellblazer on dc infinity, I thought it was decent. It reminded me of Ennis’ run.
Looks like someone is not so subtly telling us Wonder Woman is getting the AXE. My eyes were rolling so hard at the premise. As for Flash, looks like I'll only have to get my hands on the Adams' run for the foreseeable future.
Selling comics *only* in comic book shops is never a good idea nowadays.

Why put Tom King on Wonder Woman, haven't Wonder Woman fans been through enough?
i've come to the point, where i just think after 80+yrs, there are no good DC/Marvel super hero stories left to tell.
I couldn't personally create one good story, let alone maintain a franchise for 80 years
@@davekolan862 i created my own character in high school in '91. i have an origin and that's it. i look around at other comics and decided, there is nothing new i could put in into, so he is limited to the one story and pin up art.
I've been saying this for the last 15 years. Just retire the characters and focus on merch and the occasional OGN.
As long as they leave Carter Hall and Shiera out, they can do whatever they want. I never really liked Kendra even when Geoff Johns was writing.

Good point. This might be a test for Tom King to prove himself on an ongoing
Why on earth would they let him write Wonder Woman?
That might be the only thing that will get David Z attention and convince him to fix dc comics.
@@zemox2534 Yeah and maybe doing clean house.

They even recycled the image that is the cover from The Helmet of Fate: Detective Chimp
tom king on wonder woman into a government story and flash turning into cosmic horror what hell is dc doing...
It's Jim Lee. It's always been his fault.

My man... where did you get that Superman t-shirt?! I need it!!!
What makes Tom King happier. Getting WW or guy who gets so much praise for fixing his character assassination or wally off book
Every day I get closer to joining Dok in leaving new comics
Tom King is a no for me.
When will they learn
Wonder Woman had fans? Not based on monthly comic sales.
Why is Wonder Woman built like a tank on that cover?
Can’t be pissed if you had no faith in DC to not do this in the first place lol. Least Adams is going to mg boy Hal so I’m super excited!
(it won't happen but) if Marc Silvestri drew WW for 12 months & Tom Taylor wrote it focussed on super hero action (she's the most powerful woman on DCs Earth)
To be fair, Wonder Woman fans gave always had reason to be pissed. At least for a few decades now
Her title has only been bad since 2018 when Greg Rucka left his second run. Before that we had Perez, Loebs, Byrne, Jimenez, Rucka, Simone, so many good books
Well... Flash was (is in fact, since WE are few books late in France) one of the last DC title I was reading... Too Bad
Dawn of dc should be renamed dusk of dc because its putting me to sleep lol
Take a slight page from The Super Friends when Darkseid was fixated with Wonder Woman, and use him as her main antagonist, her version of Superman and Mongul. As well, other heroes can weave in and out in a Brave & Bold fashion (especially characters that have fallen by the wayside over the years). This would keep Wonder Woman entrenched in the DC universe rather than an outsider. Most of all, the book needs to written as fun action-adventure.
Why do the same writers contine to get recycled? Enough already
That flash art looks very "HAPPY"
I miss Katar Hol and Shayera of Pre-Crisis era.

King's premise does not excite, but here for the (shit)show.😂
The bare minimum requirements for writing comics now are being cheap, a minority, trans or any combination of the 3.
Hey Wes. Who the the writer attached to the new Cyborg series? I want to be excited about it but it’s hard when I don’t know who this writer is.
So, who is she? Did you do a video about it and if so, did I miss it??
Even though DC are saying wonderwoman and flash are action packed, I have the feeling neither will be action packed..
This sounds suspiciously like that Superman and Batman: public enemies film.
Tom king, ouch.
Make no mistake, Jeremy Adams was removed from the Flash. He did NOT want to leave the book.
"A couple of months ago, I was told my time on the Flash was coming to an end with issue 800.” “I was (AM) very bummed about the decision.”
I've fallen in love with the West family and had many more stories in mind, but, they said they wanted a new creative and tonal direction, and, well, that's that," Adams continues. "However, I AM forever grateful for my time with the West family and all the adventures we've had together. I also wanted to say a big thank you to the Flash Family - you guys are the best fans a nerd like me could ask for."
In other words:
DC: Adams. We like you but your Flash run doesn't fit our cynical world view so we are going to remove you.
Adams: But people love my work
DC: We missed the part where we are suppose to give a crap.
@@zemox2534 why couldn’t they just put DEODATO with Adams?!!!

I will give Tom King a chance with Wonder Woman.
I didn't know Flash was the third top selling DC comicbook.
