In an alternate reality, sonic the hedgehog 4 is released for the SEGA Saturn as a 3D title with gameplay similar to sonic adventure. The music for sonic 4 would be the music from this game because sonic 3D blast Saturn in that reality didn’t exist. How amazing that would be.
I would say Sonic R came closest to the level design of the classics out of all the 3D games in the series. And they should because they share the same lead level designer.

To call something nice is usually to condemn it with faint praise, but in this case I very sincerely mean it when I say that this is nice. It's pleasant and energetic in a way that maintains your interest without being overbearing in any sense.
I played this game as a kid and genuinely enjoyed it. The jumps were annoying at times, but it wasn’t a horrendous experience. I think this game would have been more well received if it wasn’t specifically Sonic game. It also has easily one of my top 3 sonic OSTs. This, Heroes, and Unleashed, in no particular order. The quality of Sonic games is hit or miss, but the soundtracks are always top tier. Even Sonic ‘06 has a good soundtrack:

My favorite track of all sonic games; this reminds me of how much fun it was at that time when i was still studying at school and i always remembered how beautiful it was that i was a sonic fan at that time it was very incredible it gives me a nostalgia of joy and tranquility as if i was in paradise , that yes that is completely spectacular Sonic music, just like Nights and Ristar had it in their games.
This game and Nights into Dreams spent so much time in my Discman in the 90s. Ah, the days of Redbook audio. It was like buying the game and getting the OST for free.

After playing the Genesis version of this game my whole life since the 90s, I finally tried the Saturn version today, 7/6/23 and holy fucking shit this soundtrack is so much fucking better! And I'm so amazed at all the extra graphical details!
Whenever I listen to this song, it gives me a lot of memories of when I played the sss beta when they brought me my first computer, I was very happy and became super addicted to sss!! I remember getting this for the Saturn soon after it came out. I actually asked my parents for the Sonic Collection, but they couldn't find it, but they found and gave this for my birthday instead. I remember listening to the OST on the Saturns music player as much as playing the actual game itself. The Saturn era of Sega games had some fucking amazing music. Better then most of the Sony and Nintendo counterparts. So much of it largely forgotten though, seeing as the console itself was an absolute failure.
The Saturn was a complete failure in major regions,but there were two (at least that I'm concerned) that Sega's console received a warm welcome. *Japan* : one of the most prestigious videogame regions,the Saturn sold pretty well there! Most of the 9.13M units sold were Japanese,as Sega this time was perhaps trying to focus on their homeland, similar to the Mega-CD. The console wars in Japanese lands eventually was won by Sony's PlayStation, but both Sega's Saturn and Nintendo's 64 had strong sales. It was pretty balanced. *Brazil* : The Saturn would moderately well here,and only counting only legal/locally made sales,it was the leader, since most PlayStation units were either imported or smuggled. The Saturn however,had a high launch price of R$700(when the minimum salary was around R$70),but the price lowered significantly for R$300 when it reached department stores. The warm receiving here(Brazil) was due of Tectoy (Sega's representer here) having a strong foothold already and a strong marketing. Sales could be better if the price point was lower and the console didn't having such a strong anti-piracy protection. Curiosity: between 1998-1999,due to declining sales and Tectoy close to declaring bankruptcy,they decided to stop producing the console locally and directly import Japanese units,only transcoding from NTSC-J (Japan) to PAL-M (Brazil). This is so nostalgic man: it reminds me of my toddler years.. Back when there was no drama, no school. It also reminds me of the pandemic. I was big on Michael Jackson at the time, but something about both of these eras are so nostalgic and this song just makes me relive them. Maybe because everything I watched and listened to in those eras were older than the time period except for some things? Who knows but I love this song
