Your comment made me think of my relationship with Sonic 3D Blast's music. I played and loved it on the Genesis. So this was not the music I heard when I played. It didn't seem to fit, and from an abundance of nostalgia, it still doesn't seem to fit. I revisited the music looking for versions online when I was older. This was the version I found first, and was...disappointed. I was disappointed though, because I was looking for nostalgia and the good music associated with it. But in just appreciating music, I have my own sense of nostalgia with the Saturn OST, because I liked this music too. It also led me to learn more about video games and how video games end up with different versions, different music, different localizations, and just about video games in general. So even though I generally prefer the Genesis soundtrack, the Saturn soundtrack is still good. And more than that, it reminds me of that period of time where I really got into video games and video game music beyond just being a kid who... Ultimately? Never got close to finishing Sonic 3D Blast and was really frustrated with how imprecise movement was and how hard it was to land attacks.
