    This video just save me $800. I went and bought a $20 soldering iron kit and saved my dryer. I even did the improvement in this video with 18 gauge wire. It works people, thank you to the owner of this video. All heroes don’t wear capes!

    I don’t think I’ve ever been happier at how perfectly this worked!! Got home from work yesterday to this being an issue. Out of nowhere. I was heartbroken, crying to my husband about it. This morning he followed your instructions, and without spending a single penny (because we had everything we needed) my dryer works like new again! Thank you!!!

    I watched this and followed your instructions, and my dryer is working again! I used stranded copper wire to clean the old solder because I didn't have any solder wick. I also used 12G stranded copper wire because I couldn't find 18. Thanks for posting this! Saved me a few hundred dollars! Mine was burned in exactly same place as yours. Excellent video!

    This WORKS! I am by no means experienced with repairing control boards or soldering, but this video helped me fix my dryer. 11-year-old dryer blew out this week and $20 solder kit (Home Depot) and $4 soldering wire got it done. The hardest part was removing the control board without damaging anything, but once it was out, it took me 5 minutes to do what the video shows. If you are contemplating this project, DO IT! Do not pay anyone $400+ to fix something that can cost you less than $25. Someone wanted to charge me $180 for the visit, $260 for the replacement control board and $80 an hour. A job that took me 20 minutes from start to finish and $25 in tools.

    Ditto... Before the scheduled appointment of the Appliance repair I decided to check the thermal switch and thermistor, which were fine. Then opened the top and took out the control board and it was burnt in the same location. Jumped the connections and VWALLAH!! Thanks for this video. Saved a bundle.

    This is incredible! I have a Maytag 9000 series dryer that just stopped working yesterday after 9 years. Showed the F01 error code. Took it apart and was burned out at the same spot. Unsoldered all the connections you mentioned and resoldered with a 16 gage wire (didn't have any 18 gauge) Works perfectly again! Saved me $183.50 for a new board from Amazon. Anyone who has this same problem this will save you a ton of money! Thanks!!!

    My Whirlpool Cabrio suffered this exact error code and failure after about 8 years in service. At first I was going to buy a new dryer, then decided instead to order new control board a few hours before finding this video. Now I can return the board and save myself about $130.

    Repair many of these boards and I use a paper clip to bridge across the relay to the other two contact point and so far have hold up for years after, usually bend it in a small circle over the burnt terminal then shape it to angle and meet the two other contact points. John

Here is to another 10 years thanks to your fix! If anyone is hesitant in their soldering skills, or lack of, try it! It's quite easy and you really only need ot solder the wires on the contact points.

    Great Video! My duet dryer was doing nothing after holding start button. At first there was no error code but after about 5-10 seconds after pressing start, control board threw a PF1 error. Checked the control board and noticed the same burned connection to the relay. Ordered new relay on Amazon (14 bucks), removed the old one, and soldered the new one in. Reinstalled the control board and it started up right away. Saved at least 150 by not buying new control board. Did not do reenforced wiring, but will consider it if this happens again. If you see a PF1 error, check the control board for burn marks, loose solder joints and see if it is something you can fix.

    Great Video, fixed my Whirlpool duet dryer in 15 minutes. Note that depending on how severe the failure you may not see copper around the pin but will at the trace; use flux and lay down solder to fill the gap in the via. Easy Peezy. My dryer was 11 years old when this failure occured

    Great video. I priced the board at about $320, but had mine fixed in about 30 minutes. I only did one of the jumpers, because my soldering is so bad that I may mess up the other solder joints that were still good. Thanks!!

  • @danielmatthews8475
    @danielmatthews8475 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Had the same problem in the same spot. The question might be asked "why do they mostly fail on that side when the traces are the same on both sides?" I suspect that it has something to do with the relay contacts starting to erode, and that pin is closer the the contact point than the other one. I would suggest replacing the relay if you are going to the trouble of taking everything apart. They are only $12 on Amazon. Then you will have new contacts. At least for a while...

    • @denispoirier19
      @denispoirier19  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the great video. My dryer's back in business. Besides the burnt out connection on the board, you'll see the plastic housing on the inside charred as well. NOTE: After the repair, when I run the diagnostic (88) test, it kept flipping back to the F01 error. I about threw the board away in frustration, but then I closed the dryer door and ran a test load. Worked perfect. Don't assume the F01 on the diagnostic test means you failed. Try a test load.

    In my case, the actual relay was non-functional, and it literally blasted the solder pads off the board when it went. I replaced the Omron G8P-1A4P with a (drop-in replacement) Panasonic JTN1AS-PA-F-DC12V from Mouser electronics. I also installed wire to prevent the issue you demonstrate in your video but I soldered it down on the existing trace.

    It's the contact points inside the relay that are getting burnt and causing arcing that causes this. It's not because there's too much power

    • @mcurtis600
      @mcurtis600 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It actually ends up being a combination of both the connections on the board and the overheated contacts. Replacing the relay AND putting in the bypass wires as shown should last a while. My board had damage on the board and the contacts just like this video. All this damage is caused by the contacts being under sized and relying on an electromagnet relay and not a spring closed type.

    This might not work for everyone, or it might be a temporary fix in some cases. The reason the solder joint blows out like that is due to a failing relay (contacts inside the relay are arcing).
    If simply re-soldering the relay terminal doesn't work (or doesn't last long), then replace the relay as shown in this video:

      Standard tin/lead solder will work fine. Sometimes known as 60/40 or 63/37 solder. Don't use the big plumbing solder.

    A small power surge to my dryer last weekend and I got the dreaded F01 code. The board for my machine is $292.00!!! I went to Northern Tool and picked up a $10 solder kit and decided what the heck...let's give it a try. In less than 30 minutes (including time to make another pot of coffee) my dryer is working again. I did not make the improvement of adding the jumper wire.

Cant find a 18G wire anywhere at my house right now but have plenty of Romex wire. Do you guys think itll hold better? Thanks in advance

    the protective coating over the solder points/ board itself is to prevent dust/lint accumulation from connecting/completing circuits thus shorting out the component, with having scraped the protect coating off several solder points you are increasing the likelihood of component failure given dust/lint can now connect/complete crossed circuits.
    *A Conformal coating is a protective chemical coating or polymer film 25-75µm thick (50µm typical) that 'conforms' to the circuit board topology. Its purpose is to protect electronic circuits from harsh environments that may contain moisture and or chemical contaminants*
    your load wire addition in theory increases the likelihood of not only re-blowing the soldering points but as well total failure of the initial component itself IF when lint/dust accumulation occurs.
    what gauge of wire was used to make the load bridges? reason i ask is will it (the load wire bridges) withstand temperature fluctuations as to not fail in the future?
    i would not recommend scraping the Conformal coating layer off the etching giving one can gouge out too much of the etching leaving pocketed space between the board and the etching itself, over time with heat and moisture (not much a problem for a dryer) the plastic protective layer over the copper etching will begin to peel/flake off like Rusted metal, not too much of concern if there is no danger of moisture build up in the room the dryer is in.
    9 years experience of ewaste recycling- ongoing learning process but what i have mentioned comes from experience with my own dryer having said issue and the recycling of other such dryers with same said component failure.
    the board itself is not expensive, it would be best to ONLY re-solder the failed solder point without the additional steps you included in the reinforcement of such given your method CAN lead to board failure, replacement boards - at least ones i have come across still have said issue, so re-soldering after each failure for some may be more cost effective in the long run than potentially frying the board IF when your methodology fails them for what ever reason and will have to purchase a new board or dryer, typically (what i have experienced) simply re-soldering suffice 5 times before component/board failure.
    all in all great video, im going to try your method for my dryers board has blown 4 times from simple re-soldering, came upon your video looking for ways to reinforce said juncture, if it last longer than 4 months i will report back if when it does fail detailing how,
    if any of the information i have present is false or inaccurate - constructively criticize it as i have done here in,

      @davidhindi3148 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The protective coating is called solder mask and is only needed during the production process. Scraping off a little won't compromise the reliability of the board.

My one request is, can you write down list of items I need (besides soldering iron). I would greatly appreciate it since I would like to attempt to fix it myself and hopefully save $$. Also how much would you say it costs for the repair you made in this video. Thanks in advance.
