You gotta give it to Zoia and Deluge for not stocking up the landfill with multiple versions of their instruments. I hope it all adds up financially for them because giving major updates 6 years after release of the product is truly generous.
I've literally been experimenting with ways to control samples with stomp switches easily and now my humble ZOIA has automatically given me the solution I needed. Wahoo! Thanks for running through it all Cuckoo :)
this is so cool! The Zoia is the only sampler I know that can have a predefined sample "container" that you can record into. Meaning you can create a silent sample of a specific length and then record into it, overdub etc. This thing can do so much and this update makes it even more powerful…the OCTATRACK of fx pedals!
You have a way with words that helps me better understand what you're doing, but I have no clue how you come up with these creative ideas in the first place! I love the pre-sliced single sample idea. Thanks Cuckoo!
Finally, even though I’m still discovering something new for me every time I use my Zoias… Updates went smoothly on both, one of them in dual mono for my direct guitar line and one in stereo after my synths. Cuckoo’s tutorials have always been incredibly helpful, firing up the GAS… though this time looks like he’s putting my Digitakt on notice…
Thanks mate. Yeah this update is changing the game for the ZOIA. You can create a LOT of solutions, overlapping into the lands of the Digitakt. But the Digitakt surely is very streamlined hands-on instrument, with a fast UI designed for performance. But not everyone uses the Digitakt to its full potential. Perhaps you just want some samples playing in a sequence.
Thanks!! ❤️ Yeah I gotta get my hands on the Move. It seems nice. I hope they'll keep it around for a long time, and give it quality of life updates over years to come, like Empress here does with their ZOIA.
Making a patch to do fixed length live record, like the Octatrack. One stomp for switching between live and recorded audio, and an other one for arming the recording to the sampler using a sequencer to do fixed length recording. It works, but has a slight drop in volume in the first kick of the loop.
Cuckoo! You should make some music on the Mega Synthesis! We would love to hear some new FM tunes and a break down on your thought process, similar to what you did with the Digitone.
This is exciting… Cuckoo is the ZOIA wizard , and 4.0 update …woohoo….looking forward to some creating some kind of granular ratcheting from audio output of bass station 2 in aphex mode , live audio input with intermittent recorder looper type thing with an LFO set record on/off . Based off this Great overview as usual…. 👾
It can handle a bunch of stuff, but the cpu isn’t infinite. Keep an eye on the corner of the display. There’s a % that reports how much resources is used.
While I was working on the patch for our launch video, I was able to run 2 sequencers that controlled 3 synths, plus another 4 sequencers that controlled a sampler each... AND I could run all that through reverb and compression modules! Sure, I was capping out at 106% memory when all 6 sequencers were on, but it still ran 😇
Cuckoo can we get a sample library of you singing random words and sounds. It was very pleasant hearing it throughout the demo. Cheers on another excellent video! Edit: you are a wizard my friend!
It certainly isn’t for everyone and is probably way too much for most folks. Modular in a box is a good analogy, it takes time to understand and learn.
With the sample midi playback, I assume polyphony is a thing right? That’s all I need, is a sound module to make patches with samples to play via midi.
I'm afraid most of the views on your Zoia vid are going to be mine... 😅 Played a bit today, and I think it seemed a bit more reactive when editing, but won't have time till the weekend to check out the sampling... So, thanks again for your great tutorials!
Question: Is it possible for me to ex. record some samples, then recalling them on another patch while in a live performance? As in: - Record Samples on Patch 1, save them quickly, without goin in-depth into menus, as its a live performance. - Do something else on Patch 2 - Have the samples from Patch 1 be used in Patch 3 again.
It seems when I make a midi note in connection to the pitch - it breaks the patch and I have to delete that connection and do so again. It will playback correctly with a keyboard just triggering but will launch the pitch high and unplayable when making that connection. Any ideas? Could this be due to a slower speed SD card?
The default pitch is set to 0,5. so when connecting a keyboard pitch you effectively add to that value, and it might go out of range. Have you tried setting the pitch to 0, connect the keyboard and see if it works better? Then gradually increase the pitch until you’re in a tonal range that suits the keyboard.
I don't get why they have not created a computer interface for Zoia to make creation and editing significantly easier than the limitations of it's current interface... Makes no sense... 😮

@@milk_bath No, it's meen about vendors. Can you see updates for 1s after realise 2th?
@@YanOnLine Yes. Analog 4 and RYTM got updates along with the MK2s. Care to try again?

Yeah you’ve got the right mindset!
I think you should also be able to create a record trigger.
That way you can make perfect loops when using a midi clock

Although I don't think I'd ever try and figure this device out, it's always a pleasure watching Cuckoo do his thing, and with a smile the entire time.
Oh, how so much changed in a couple of months. Seems I was bitten by the 10k model. Couldn't be happier with it.
I’m 19 minutes in and already completely blown away. Thank you for sharing this! Can’t wait, mine’s coming in the mail :)
Cuckoo, please don't ever change!

Thank you! I think the deeper you know stuff, and the more you fiddle… the easier it gets for the mind to come up with ideas and solutions.

Time to update my pair of Zoias! Thanks, as always Cuckoo! Another amazingly useful walk-through.

This was not the review move I was expecting today 😂
This might be the missing link in my setup. I wonder about the processor handling sample playback while running effects tho.

I am sure Empress is looking this and thinking..."Oooh... I didn´t know we can do this too"
Superb
First of all, thanks for showing us the new features! Secondly, can someone fill me in on what happens from about 29:22 until the end of that segment?

Love the wallpaper. Where’d you find that?
Favourite wallpaper. It was there when we moved in. 🌸
i have no sample file yet. do I just create a folder that says "samples" or what is best?
I like to have some sort of structure like that on the SD card. But it’s up to you.

time to _move_ away from overhyped makers...
What do you mean…?
The release of ZOIA firmware 4.0 coincided with a certain Ableton MOVE, so there’s a lot of talk, thoughts and opinions about that right now.
yep, some mainstream makers exploit the hype, so it's nice to rather see such diy level gadgets, that are even better featured...
