- Hello Guys,
In this Lecture We are going to understand Heat of combustion (HOC) in details.
Heat of combustion - Heat released during combustion . In particular, it is the amount of heat released when a given amount (usually 1 mole ) of a combustible pure substance is burned to form incombustible products (e.g., water and carbon dioxide); this amount of heat is a characteristic of the substance. Heats of combustion are used as a basis for comparing the heating value of fuels, since the fuel that produces the greater amount of heat for a given cost is the more economic. Heats of combustion are also used in comparing the stabilities of chemical compounds. For example, if equal quantities of two isomeric hydrocarbons burn to produce equal amounts of carbon dioxide and water, the one releasing more energy (i.e., with the higher heat of combustion) is the less stable, since it was the more energetic in its compounded form.
Thanks
MKA Sir

Do all the weird topics need to come in exam before i watch your video ? I was in 8th jan shift and got question on HOC,quasi aromatic and oxidation of compounnds where cyclisation was to occur.
Very helpful to me sir, thnaks a lot you are really God of organic chemistry.
At 24:05
Order should be 2,1,3,4
As for C(8-11) cis>trans (stability).

Sir Thank you for your wonderful classes, i was wondering if the solution to your fourth question 24:13 had a slight mistake, I came across a book which explained that in a ringed system containing less than 11 carbons the cis-isomer was actually more stable than the trans-isomer, but the solution considers the trans-isomer to be more stable. I'am quite confused as to what the actual solution would be.
Thank you sir for all your hard work for us students
Super concept
Sir if we see according to bond order, then alkyne bond order >alkene>alkane, and we know that stability is directly proportional to bond order, therefore alkyne is most stable hence least heat of combustion, can we explain in this way too? Or is it just a co incidence?
Sir ji pls aap field effect explain kar denge...request from an ardent follower...love you guru ji.
Sir hum IIT JAM Chemistry keliye bahut ache se prepare kar rhe he.......But hume sirph itna bataiye ki placements kaise hote he msc ke baat.....what is the minimum PACKAGE after passing from NIT(not IITS) without gate or net?......what is the placements percentage from NITs? Plz sir reply us...
Sir question No.6 is wrong becouse the carbon attached to the ring has 6 bonds. Which is not possible
What a video sir......You deserve a lot more Sir..Even the best teachers in our coaching did not cover this concept so well. I was badly confused in per CH2 group concept . You show that IITIANS ARE DIFFERENT.

sir agar ethane jyada bond banayegaa to wo jyadaa stable hogaa .too sir aapne to kaha ki hoc inversely proportional hota hai stability ka too sir aap ethane ka hoc jyada kyu kiyeeee please reply.
Once again the KING OF CHEMISTRY is back 🥇🥇😍
In case of 10 membered ring, cis is more stable than trans. So its HOC should be less.
❤
🙏💥
24:18 Q4. In 10 member Carbon ring cis is more stable thn trans and there is Trans, Trans and cis in option 4 not trans trans trans.
That's right!
I am not getting how he solved like that.. in cyclic compound, if the ring size is less than 11, then the order of stability is opposite, i.e cis is more stable than trans
Sir love u3000times
🔥🔥
@@IITianexplains 😍😍🤗😘
🔥🔥🔥
if structure is more compact , wouldn't it mean that steric repulsion is more , why more stable than ?
Is replulsion only a force working there ?
There are so many compact models theory about this.
von Rogue Schleyer, University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA have built on their earlier model on compact structures. According to this model, branching means that the electronic structure is simply more compact and this decreases molecular surface area per atom and so leads to a lowering of energy and increases in stability.
@@IITianexplains actually sir , i didn't understand why low surface energy would mean low energy , I am in class 12th currently , and i don't know relation between surface area and energy of atom , I can see little resemblance with concept of surface tension where low surface energy means low energy , but why is it so in case of atoms ?? I am sorry if I am asking something very silly. ^_^
Sir in Q4 why is two trans-trans more stable than one trans?
The legendary
Sir i have a doubt you said stability is proportional to branching it means that more branched is a compound, more stable it is. Then why melting or boiling point of a straight chain is more than that of a branched chain we are told if has more surface area and hence it is stable
Plz sir reply
Suagat hai sir with physical chemistry topic.

Sir 25:10 me aapne bola ki jada product ban rahe he to jada stability hogi or jitti jada stability utna HOC kam as in 10:51 ... Fr sir apne order 1>2>3 .
Us hisab se to order 3>2>1 hoga na sir l... Btaiye sir Plzzz..
Look carefully.
At 25:10, we are talking about stability of product formed and at 10:51, we are talking about substrate stability.
Dhyaan se lecture suno and dekho, kbhi doubt nhi aayega. 💥
@@IITianexplains thank you sir .
Aa u have said that stabil2 is inversely proportional to delta H comb then how come ques 4th lead to the different trend ethane will form more stable product hence less deltaH comb
In ques 5 sorry
Sir which chapter is this sub topic from and can u tell the importance of this for neet

@@piyushbaldwa6485 Yes this is from GOC.

Sir you told in earlier that HOC is directly proportional to the no. Of carbon but in the last session in this video in question no. 2 .. how 8c membered ring is existing with higher heat of combustion.. please break my doubt sir

Sir aab le sakte h course???? 19June h aaj
Mene kha tha board bhra hua he , nyi video aane wali he !
😎😎😎
Hehehe 😃😃
Yeah Ashish bhai
Sir I have a doubt.
Jo structure already stable hai uski combustion Karne k liye zyaada energy Nahi Chahiye hogi kya?? ( Thinking generally)
You're right.....but as the products are more stable, they release energy (they are exothermic reactions, not endothermic). So we subtract energy consumed from energy released......and the energy consumed would be more for stable reactants as you mentioned. So the net energy released (after subtracting energy consumed to break reactant bonds) would be more for unstable reactants.
Sir at 23:35 how to decide whether hydrogen is in cis configuration or trans configuration....
Look at methyl groups with respect to double bond.
Cis for same side and trans for opposite side.
@@IITianexplains OK Sir. Doubt Cleared... Thank You.. 😊
