    Those heads were popular in the 60s through mid 90s AS WE ALL KNOW LOL / till we were able to buy aftermarket performance heads. Small block race engines were destroying those castings from birth. GM sold Reman & new castings in the good wrench-with the known target master motors as an hd replacement program. Some of the casting numbers not listed in the searches are from factory replacement casting numbers through Canada & Mexico. This was the precursor to the millions of last gen vortec sbc that were casted on Mexican plants. I remember a company called Arrow head ( also Dk’s in the 80s who sold out to Arrow ) had 291-462 castings in a various forms. It was an ad in Hemings / hot rod and car craft magazine / Midwest automotive ( now summit ) P. A. W ( the original crate Engine but un assembled ) & motortrend to name a few. I got a set with different casting numbers and they explained what I am right now. They were better versions. The factory intake runners ranged from 159-168 cc & the exhaust runner from 52-58 cc. The reman or replacement head was a solid 175-178 cc runner intake & 65-68 cc exhaust. They usually has been drilled for screw in studs. Cast iron faded off into the sunset for a long time when the aluminum head era came. They stopped producing them in the late 80s. They had a lot of them in stock from lack of popularity when gm released the famous ZZ4 aluminum head engine we all know. Then the center bolts aluminum heads were available from gm performance ….. the rest is history. NOTE - Grumpy Jenkins alone used up enough of those castings on test engines finding power - not to mention the amount trashed in racing

    Those are 186's. Sometimes casting slag gets in the digits. From around '69 and up they had accessory holes. I've had at least 1 set of all of them. 461, 462, 186, 291, 492..and even 041. 041 doesn't have the camellback insignia (its a wedge insignia), but the chambers/ports are the same as camelback. The 492's come with screw in studs and guide plates from the factory. These are the LT1's They were all 2.02 if I'm not mistaken. But yah, those you have are modded 186's.

    I believe they are corvette heads.
    I rebuilt a 307 for my 70 Chevy pickup back in 1980 with camel back heads.
    Crane cam ,flat top pistons, intake, holley carburetor , headers . Three inch exhaust into glass pack mufflers.
    I ran that truck for 12 years. It was a great combination.
    It was a smooth rev happy motor.
    I enjoyed driving it every day.

    Any 202 heads are desirable and worth saving. You can tell they are early from the plugs they run. By the time you get them built you are about the same cost as a brand new bargain aluminum pair these days.

In 1969 the alternator was moved and the bolt holes on the head were for the alternator brackets. Pre '69 had no bolt holes and alternator was mounted off exhaust manifold and water pump....

    I worked in an automotive machine shop for 2 decades from 76 to the mid 90s. In those years we seen a lot of undocumented versions of small block cylinder heads. They look to me like LT1 or 302 heads. They look like 13/16 plugs and they are definitely 64cc chambers. They are currently fitted with what looks like 2.02 intake valves, whether they came this way from the factory is anyone's guess. GM also sold over the counter heads in that era also so it's possible they were not on a production engine. Possible, but not very likely.

  • @dillinpicklesworth5698

    They are 307 heads, accessory holes have been drilled, most popular on 2 barrel Malibu.

  • @OlysGarage
    @OlysGarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My best guess would be the same as you- leaning more toward the 3927186 '69-70 302/350 64cc Camel hump
    Could be the 3927188 '69 327 / '70 307 74cc chambers too.... possibly
    There is ZERO 382 prefix casting #s in any of my cheat sheets. Jumps 381 to 383 every time. Lists only one 382 prefix for a 366ci BBC Truck Block... kinda strange !?!

    • @Canadiancarguy1987
      @Canadiancarguy1987  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ya sometimes casting numbers are hard to read for sure but after thinking about it and Terry mentioned it I'm pretty sure they are 186's it would make the most logical sense

  • @4speed3pedals
    @4speed3pedals ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Round ports are old ways of thinking about ports. The roof of the exhause flows most of the air coming from the cylinder. To make them round can actually cause them to flow less, especially if someone made port floor bigger due to the fact that the curve on the floor from the seat to the header is sharper and at higher rpm, air is not moving fast. You may want to investigate using the raised pushrod guide plates on a small block Chevy. From what info I have gathered from Comp and a couple other manufacturers, the flat one are better.

    Those look like 882's. They do not have the same performance qualities that worked camel humps are known for. Although for the money and being modded are the correct price and shall perform well for a factory casting up to O.44O" lift they are o.k.. The 882 head are only second to camel humps and camel humps are only second to Vortec heads. The reputation for 'camel hump' heads came from what could be done with them by David Vizard himself. A peice of iconic history branded into legendary racing forever. Be sure to check those for cracks by magnafluxing, then use them. They shall be a great factory head for the money for sure. Just sonic check to make sure they are not too close to water, and magnaflux to check for cracks. Until you can get some dart iron eagle heads or brodix track 1 series. What i like about brodix, is they are the united states economy and family citizen U.S. business.

    If they have the M cast mark you cannot go by American details as the McKinnon foundry ones were versions with the same casting numbers but not identical as mostly were truck heavy wall spec so little things were different to US castings, they dod not do light weight car castings as the truck production was the bulk of it so the local Canadian cars got truck spec mostly and the engine production codes were shared too but specs not the same for complete assemblies etc

    So in the Camel Hump (aka double hump or double bump) sbc cylinder head world, casting numbers 186, 187 and 492 all have accessory bolt holes with 492s being the holy grail of the bunch.
    291, 461 (aka fuelie heads), 461X and 462 have no accessory bolt holes with the 461X heads being the holy grail of the bunch. The planets aligned and I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a set of 461 heads, a set of screw-in studded 462 heads, a set of Power Pack (pre Camel Hump era) heads, and a 327/Muncie combo for $1700. This stuff is still out there.

    These poor castings have been made love to many times. Screw-in studs but didn't drill the original pushrod holes for clearance. The sloppy Bridgeport work on the exhaust ports is comical. The 2.02 intake seats are sunken so far they wouldn't flow as well as 1.94 heads. If you paid more than $6.00 a ton for these, you deserve to learn this cruel lesson. 2 random humps on late model small block heads don't mean $hit.

    882 Heads on a flat top 350 with a 350 trans with a 11 in stall with a 373 gear runs very good on the street.If you run the engine hot , that head will crack.Crack. 882 heads came on 400 sb's.Maybe others but the ones I found had the steam holes.
