    Thank you for sharing your techniques and process. It's really great to have a video that cuts right to the point without incessant babble. You've given me some great ideas in a very short time.

    I used joint compound on a large 60in x40in canvas. Started with 2 layers of gesso, once dry I put a coat of white acrylic paint (and black in some areas). Left it to dry minimum 48 hrs before adding the drywall /joint compound. At least 5 -/+ days for the compound to cure depending on the temperature and humidity of the surrounding environment. A dehumidifier helps the drying process if the air is damp/humid. Mineral based surfaces (plaster, cement, joint compound, clay etc) are naturally porous and will suck up the paint and therefore must be sealed prior to painting. Applying a 1-2 layers of sealer also prevents cracking. I used mod podge mixed 2:1 with a varnish with each layer of paint applied (one coat of sealer beneath each layer of paint used). Finish the cured piece with archival spray varnish.

    Love this! And the idea that you used a former art painting and took the frame out in certain and still kept frames that was really a cool idea. Quick question where do you buy the colored paint for the frames you did in the burnt sienna color? Beautiful
    Ty for sharing 🌟

    • @projecttrixie1518
      @projecttrixie1518  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Joint compound is easier to use and it works fine on canvas. 😊

    I put plaster in canvas, and it literally crumbled when it dried... It fell off at the lightest touch. Any suggestions? Does the type of plaster matter?

    • @projecttrixie1518
      @projecttrixie1518  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leave it for 1-2 days to dry then use clear sealer. I used Rust-oleum matt clear spray paint. Or you can use joint compound, It's ready to use. 😊

    • @projecttrixie1518
      @projecttrixie1518  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And I think you need to put primer when using canvas so the plaster will stick.

    Thanks for posting! I did this before seeing the video and mine cracked :( I intent to paint with oil, can I still use the sealer spray after? Or do you have any other tips to make this last long-term without crumbling?

    • @projecttrixie1518
      @projecttrixie1518  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Use joint compount or spackle, it's easier to use. It's normal to have small cracks when it gets dry. Just retouch it with joint compound using your finger and use clear sealer (I used Rust-oleum satin clear spray paint).

    • @projecttrixie1518
      @projecttrixie1518  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      After 24hrs of drying, it's normal if you see small cracks. Touch up all the cracks with joint compound using your finger and it will be fine. Let it dry and seal it with clear top coat. 😊

    • @projecttrixie1518

      It won't crumble but sometimes you will notice that thicker sections have cracked. It's normal, Just use your finger and a little bit of mud, gently repair the cracks by adding a small amount of mud over the cracks. 😊
