I grew up in India and we're borderline obsessed with Maggi there. It's something every kid eats growing up and every college student has fond memories of. We all know they are extremely mediocre but there's just so much nostalgia associated with them that they are hard to let go. Every single Indian has at least one significant life memory associated with Maggi noodles. And over time, street food vendors have taken the Plain-Jane pack of Maggi noodles and really made some extremely creative noodle dishes out of them. Agree with your assessment of them being "just-okay" though. After a decade of living outside India and trying dozens of Asian instant noodles, I definitely get it.
I think the thing I like most about Mikey is that though he has tried some of the best cuisine in the world, he still likes the basic grocery store $3-4 noodles and whatnot.

Maggi noodles are like every Indian kid’s childhood. The taste is more like a nostalgic comfort thing rather than actual flavour. It’s still my go to noodles for when I’m sick and can’t eat anything else. Sometimes my mom adds a spoon of ghee and that changes everything ❤️

For all instant Japanese Yakisoba, you are supposed to to drain the entire water!! Yakisoba shouldn't have any soupy liquid, it should be dry so that whatever the sauce would cling to the noodles.

The American Maruchan yakisoba boxes don't have a little spout for draining the water and don't even mention it in the instructions, I only knew to do so from having the "real" thing. But I guarantee the vast majority of people who are buying this in America when you're on the ramen diet have no clue it's not supposed to be soupy. As for why Mikey didn't do it despite knowing yakisoba is dry it seems like he's following the instructions to the letter in this video and since like I said the instructions don't tell you to drain the water over here I presume he thought it was either supposed to steam off or just be like that.
@@Goldenkitten1 Can confirm they don't all tell you to drain the water. I usually do because it's way too soupy. And, you'll be better off ignoring the instructions. That self heating noodle actually seems potentially pretty dangerous. Those heating packs are used in many MRE's around the world, but food being heated is always in sealed packs so chemical residue from reaction doesn't get into the food. In this case it seemed like food was totally exposed. PS. When I heard about chemical taste, I was pretty sure nobody should eat that, taste is totally from the heating pack.

Hah, I'm catching up on videos, and I happen to be eating a Nissin Japanese Original cup noodle. I don't eat these things too often for obvious reasons, but sometimes I crave one. I also like the Korean Paldo Kokomen Spicy Chicken (which is what they call a "clean spicy"). I like to make them just a touch healthier by adding little pieces of chopped up carrot (only about a spoonful, though), or thawed peas. But, yeah, definitely guilty pleasures. I eat these maybe once a month, if even that. Those boba brown sugar popsicles...I had one a couple of months ago, and it was awesome. They keep running out, but that's probably for the best. I have to watch my salt and sugar, which is why I can't eat these things very often.
I've always wondered about those self-heating foods. I watch another YT out of Singapore who trys a lot of these kits. It seems like the fumes from the heating pack wouldn't be good for you! In MRE sets, the food is always sealed so the fumes can't get absorbed.
you should try patanjali instant noodles from india- patanjali is a brand which focuses on using traditional indian herbs and spices to promote the hindu medicine filed called ayurveda and yes using right herbs and spices along with meditation and yoga helps one to have a healthy lifestyle even when it comes to consuming instant noodles.
Never saw your channel before, and I had just made myself a Cup Noodles (Seafood), the good one with aaaaaall those little bits of dried crab and stuff and had sat down to eat it, when BOOM, there's this episode. So I watched it while eating my Seafood Cup Noodles (which isn't bad, but it felt pretty inadequate after seeing some of the stuff you ate.) This was pretty great; I had high hopes about the self-heating one (I camp a lot) but oh well... I'll have to look for some of those others (except the Cup Noodles) and I need to try that canned fish, I'm already a fan of some of the other canned meats (eel, any day) so I'll keep my eyes open for it. Thank you for the episode!
I got so excited seeing the store name. I just shopped there this weekend, and I thought "It's my favorite Asian grocery store around and it has Mikey's approval. Customer for life!" lol
I'm South Asian and as soon as you picked up maggi and chatt pata noodles, I knew it wouldn't compare to the rest LOL... we just don't do instant noodles that well in my opinion..

Those Korean noodles are yummy! I can't handle spice that well, but I enjoy eating them sometimes. Those Mi Goreng (sorry if I misspelled it) are really yummy 😋
Hey Mike! Big fan from Norway here, love the content! Just wondered what happened to the srirscha noodles? They never made it into the video... Sriracha was my gateway chili sauce so i really was looking foreward to hearing about those srirscha instant noodles! Keep up the good work
If you haven't had it yet, I recommend the scallion with Sichuan pepper flavor moods by Tseng Noodles. From Taiwan and are my favorite, was actually able to find some in an Hmart in Plano. Should be better than the one you hated.
Since subbing I have gone outside my comfort zone (and it's a very small zone). Walmart has cup of Nissan Korean BBQ noodles. I've never had anything authentic unamerican. Does that make sense? No Indian or Asian or anything. Well these are now my new favorite food. I love them. So I tried the cup of sweet chili Nissan noodles... love those too! Then I tried the cup of hot garlic chicken noodles. Loved the flavor but way way to hot for my palette. All in all I'm pleased with what I've tried and look forward to trying more.
Good for you, stepping outside of your comfort zone! I've tried a few things and have definitely been interested in trying more as well. And noodles is definitely a yummy place to start!
Nissin's Stir Fry Cup Noodles are very good! I've been exploring various instant noodles lately myself, and those have been some of my favorites so far!
The marichan gold blew my mind. I have been eating marichan exclusively for ramen since I was a kid. And I duno they didn't make them sooner. I remember it being a thing where they didn't want to do a fine dining cuisine for instant noodles. But, totally worth the extra buck.
That fried dace in the can is addicting my Cantonese grandma would heat it in microwave for few secs and eat over rice or even as a side dish with all the other stuff
Manggi used to fried they noodles and it have a yellow shine on it, which is pretty flavourful and good texture, until few years ago they changed it to the non-fried ones which basically taste like flour and water mush
You didn't tried the indigenous brand noodles of India as Maggie is not entirely Indian its owned by Nestle. There are indigenous instant noodles like Ching's Secret, Sunfeast Yippee, Smith and Jones, patanjali ayurveda, as there are different flavours and toppings in most of these brands too. Also Nepal has indigenous brand called wai wai its good too. Pakistan doesn't have an indigenous brand as knorr is an German brand. According to World Instant Noodles Association (WINA), in 2018, India was the third largest consumer of instant noodles after China/Hong Kong and Indonesia.
Knorr isn't a Pakistani brand, it is a subsidiary of Unilever PLC, an international/global food/personal care conglomerate that also owns things like 4C, Marmite, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, Klondike ice cream bars, Hellmann's, JIF peanut butter, Lipton, Breyer's ice cream, Dove soaps/shampoos, Axe body spray, Dollar Shave Club, Q-Tips, Vaseline, and many many more.
I bought one of those "mi goreng bento" things last time I went to my local Asian market. I thought it was pretty gross personally. I guess I'm partial to the Indomie stuff in a pack.
Because it's not from IndoMie hence it's gross. I just did some googling I never even heard of the company who made them. And they don't sell it locally too in Malaysia. Hence you know it's a bad product because they know it won't sell well here 😂😂
Honestly your critique of maggie is right on point. It's too nostalgic for me not to love, but the noodles are def the worst part of it. It's always better with a bit of mango pickle on the side though. Also, have to recommend you try ichiban noodles! They're so underrated, but so flavorful. Great to have soupy or with a reduced broth. My list is definitely: 1. Ichiban 2. Shin 3. Maggi 4. Mama noodles (also super nostalgic, and reminds me of college)
I love it when you try products from the grocery store!!! Actually take your recommends to the asian grocery store. I agree with your opinion on the Baldak and Singapore crab noodles. Please keep making these product sampler videos. They're super helpful.
Samyang is always a pleasure to eat, if you're a chili head. Yes, the jjajang version is the good shit, but I like to put sliced ribbons of omelette on it instead of a fried egg. But I noticed that when I ate it regularly, like twice a week, I get the sniffles less each time until I got so used to the heat that I can eat it with toast for breakfast. And then I remember, I stopped cold turkey for a month due to out-of-town work, and boy the moment I ate a Samyang noodle after that I just got massive sniffles and tears again.
I thought the maruchan yakisoba was hilarious, because you can get it at almost any store that sells instant noodles in the US. Thats actually my favorite flavor of them. You need to put a bit less water than they say and let it sit to thicken.
Lol I was just at Pan Asia the other day! Wonder if I'll ever run into Mikey one of these days during my regular grocery shopping routine. That would be cool beyond words! :)
Mikey is reliving his college days with all the instant noodles. That specific canned fish is one of my favorite things but it isn’t for the novice. It’s a bit intense especially the beans.
I wish all countries had a shop like this and have a wide variety including halal options...I'd be living in that shop lol. Would be going there every single day to buy noodles, the staff will be my best friend :')
Thanks to you I been trying different ramen soup. From all over the world 🌎. It's been a great experience. I also love putting different hot sauce too lol. Try the tapatio one it has a nice spice kick.
In South Africa you used to be able to find Mewo hot n spicy (shrimp was best) it had a really nice chewy noodle, sour and mild spice. Can't find it anymore. Love Mi Goreng, LOVE shin (gourmet) and obvs samyang bc their noodles are so perfect. Shin will always be my go to, hands down. I wish I could buy the spice seperately and just drink it like a broth. Anyway, great content as always 👌 where are my South Africans? ❤️🇿🇦
Japanese noodles shits on the noddles we got here in Australia. To all my Japaneses brothers from a poor Aussie guy I thank you with all my heart for being the back bone of aus and keeping the poor full ❤️🤣🙏
That fish and veggies packs are going on the shopping list. May I suggest doing a video about what to buy at a Asian market? Things like cupboard staples and how to determine what's good and what go avoid? Also Strickly Dumpling instant noodles and hot chile oil when?
Thing about maggi is that its just okay with the basic ingredients. But it really is one of my favorite food when I make it with fried tomatoes, chilly and onions :D
Mickey trying and loving the Pakistani knorr noodles makes me so so happy! Because i love the chatpata flavour alot and wondered for so long that why no on tries it! Glad that u like it Mickey Love from Pakistan🇵🇰❤️
As a german who loves to eat instant noodles I am getting so jealous 😂 here in germany we don't have that much variety and almost all instant noodles here are just noodles and brothpowder and most often don't taste too good until you find the few ones that do (we also have Maggi and Knorr since they're german/swiss companies) I remember being happy when I saw dried ingredients (just some seasoning in form of leaves basically lol) because it felt so premium 😂
Do you have a go Asia close by? They are in a lot of German cities by now and they have an amazing selection! Amazon Germany is also not too bad. The Asian ones do not compare to Maggi or knorr! 😳
Mike, I have to stop watching your videos just before a meal time. LOLOL Now I am starving even though I had a big late breakfast a few hours ago. I've got to get a bunch of these. I work from home and these would make a great quick meal. Thanks for all you do sir.
I think I could probably LIVE on the Maruchan Cheddar Cheese Yakisoba. That's the only yakisoba noodles flavor sold locally to me, so I try to stock up when I do go shopping. My pipsqueak of a town needs to get an Asian supermarket in it... or at least more AUTHENTIC Asian noodle choices. Right now, we have the Maruchan brand, Nissin/Top Ramen and Cup Noodles. 😞

Mi Goreng is definitely Indonesian.
The Yakisoba is American Japanese. That's why the flavor is Mac and Cheese
"I know how to fix this - a little hot oil, all you need."
Literally so true, I freaking love your hot oil.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
MIKEY CHEN
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022
Hah, I'm catching up on videos, and I happen to be eating a Nissin Japanese Original cup noodle.
Dancingbacon?
@@severus_snake6008 Absolutely! Very enjoyable videos!
Dancing bacons! Love them!
“WOW THIS IS SO FRICKIN average”
He had me in the first half, not gonna lie 😂
you should try patanjali instant noodles from india- patanjali is a brand which focuses on using traditional indian herbs and spices to promote the hindu medicine filed called ayurveda and yes using right herbs and spices along with meditation and yoga helps one to have a healthy lifestyle even when it comes to consuming instant noodles.
The wholesomeness that is Mikey comparing noodles to Disney classics….. ❤️
Top ramen-curry is okayish
The Chings Chinese is the best imo. It's flavours of manchurian, Schezwan and Singaporen are way better than everything
Maggi need to improve their noodle texture
@@yuvraj6724 Yep the best thing after wai wai
I smacked my head because well we all knew what was coming 🤐🤐😱
Dear Mikey I’m Katie I’ve been watching you for years now (wow it does seem like it has) but I got in a car crash in 2006 at 15 so I’m in a wheelchair so I don’t get out much so I travel through ur travels and can’t thank you enough for your videos I’m happy for you with the new journeys in your life and wish you and your family early merry Christmas and happy new year
Have you tried the Carbonara Style Noodles (the pink pack) from the brand Buldak? I think they are spicy but still super delicious ^^
Those Korean noodles are yummy! I can't handle spice that well, but I enjoy eating them sometimes. Those Mi Goreng (sorry if I misspelled it) are really yummy 😋
Mie goreng Indonesia noodle
Having a cup of noodles with its own FRH(flamless ration heater) is a nice idea.
This was so delightful. I can't wait for part 2
Hey Mike! Big fan from Norway here, love the content! Just wondered what happened to the srirscha noodles? They never made it into the video... Sriracha was my gateway chili sauce so i really was looking foreward to hearing about those srirscha instant noodles! Keep up the good work
Try Indomie Goreng (Indofood) from Indonesia, you'll be blown away, but most of flavours are all AWESOME!
If you haven't had it yet, I recommend the scallion with Sichuan pepper flavor moods by Tseng Noodles. From Taiwan and are my favorite, was actually able to find some in an Hmart in Plano. Should be better than the one you hated.
I'd love to see a Pot Noodle on this channel... 😅 british noodles at their finest!!!
British noodles are horrible lol 😂 especially super noodles they are so bland
Idk to laugh or to cry😂
Can I report this comment... For trying to poison Mikey 😂😂😂😂😂
British noodles are mush
I would totally be interested in him doing a western noodle video just to see his reactions lol
We did not like them. We stay over in the Asian aisle where the good stuff is, lol.
Costco has started to become filled with products from Asia and south east Asia. Really great!
I like the sweet chili Korean one that Wal Mart sells now!
I’m SO SO glad you went to Pan-Asia!! I LOVE this store and hope we see you there sometime! I love their bakery, quick service food and BubbleCup!
The marichan gold blew my mind. I have been eating marichan exclusively for ramen since I was a kid. And I duno they didn't make them sooner. I remember it being a thing where they didn't want to do a fine dining cuisine for instant noodles. But, totally worth the extra buck.
I love when you interact with Christine off camera and her giving her opinion too.
I love these try at home food items from the grocery stores episodes. These make me soooo hungry
Love your noodle videos so much! Would love to see you try Neoguri
Ooooh I loooooove the spicy seafood Neoguri! Fancy it up, get that extra egg! sooo slurp worthy!!
@@kimsmith6666 yummmmm want some so bad now.
I bought one of those "mi goreng bento" things last time I went to my local Asian market. I thought it was pretty gross personally. I guess I'm partial to the Indomie stuff in a pack.
I'm from East Malaysia... and never seen it tbh
Because it's not from IndoMie hence it's gross. I just did some googling I never even heard of the company who made them. And they don't sell it locally too in Malaysia. Hence you know it's a bad product because they know it won't sell well here 😂😂
@@juneseongmin the brand is popular here in Malaysia, it's a well known brand🤨
It is so nice to see videos where you and Christine I teach I love how you ask her opinion.
For anyone who wants try the canned fish, i highly recommend the brand called 珠江橋牌, which has always been my favourite.
Was so surprised to see you at this store from my home town! Great store and the little restaurant inside is delicious!
Prepare Instant noodles at your kitchen, it's best way when u want to eat noodles 😁
That lamian brand is fire. I love the laksa instant noodle they have. I make that whenever I'm busy and need a quick snack.
Thing about maggi is that its just okay with the basic ingredients. But it really is one of my favorite food when I make it with fried tomatoes, chilly and onions :D
Does anyone one else love Ramon noodles?
Mickey trying and loving the Pakistani knorr noodles makes me so so happy! Because i love the chatpata flavour alot and wondered for so long that why no on tries it! Glad that u like it Mickey Love from Pakistan🇵🇰❤️
Knor is not a pakistani noodle lol 😂😂😂😂
@@jaishriram9158 it’s German
@@jaishriram9158 but more popular in pak
@@jaishriram9158 and Maggi IS NOT indian
@@aggiN747 they don't even have chatpatta flavour noodles in Germany 😅
As a german who loves to eat instant noodles I am getting so jealous 😂 here in germany we don't have that much variety and almost all instant noodles here are just noodles and brothpowder and most often don't taste too good until you find the few ones that do (we also have Maggi and Knorr since they're german/swiss companies)
I remember being happy when I saw dried ingredients (just some seasoning in form of leaves basically lol) because it felt so premium 😂
Do you have a go Asia close by? They are in a lot of German cities by now and they have an amazing selection! Amazon Germany is also not too bad. The Asian ones do not compare to Maggi or knorr! 😳
🐙my fave is the Lotus food brands instant rice noodles ramen miso soup!!
Might not be for some but i fry an egg in a gooey way and pour the water and then cook the Knorr soupy noodles
Maggi isnt a german swiss company
@@eisorama2216 they meant Maggi and knorr are either Swiss or German brands
You absolutely have to try Shin Ramyun. The normal one and the kimchi flavour. Personal favourites 🤌🏻
Mike, I have to stop watching your videos just before a meal time. LOLOL Now I am starving even though I had a big late breakfast a few hours ago. I've got to get a bunch of these. I work from home and these would make a great quick meal. Thanks for all you do sir.
No Indomie No Party, Mike. I hope you will try it again next time! 😁
OMG You have to get the Maggi Kari next time - can't believe you have it in a supermarket there!! With some butter & pepper it's the bomb
Maggi kari is the classic. I personally like it with eggs and some pepper 😋
yess and for me i like my maggi with just green chilly and coriander leaves in it ..it tastes delicious for spice lovers ..
To be honest i dont know why we indians go gaga over maggi here .. cuz maggi is not even that great ..
@@AF911vids if you don't think that Maggi is great then your taste buds are broken. As an Indian, I am very proud of Maggi
@@Ddisha6113 as an indian you probably have eaten only maggi ..
All the La Mein noodles are great. The Laksa is the best one.
amazing video as always Mikey, love your hot oil as well!, keep up the awesome work! fyi instant pho doesn't have enough time for that TLC to be put into it
