Matt the gasket sealer you are using definitely has its place but so does silicone gasket sealer. The trick is knowing when to use what. Been turning wrenches for over 50 years. All in all you do a pretty good job but remember you never stop learning.
Used this sealant on my water pump gaskets, sealed up fine. But i got a question, i'm about to rebuild a TRW power steering pump, do you think the sealant will seal up the O-ring that's on the pump resevoir? Would be problematic if it started leaking again after installment.
this stuff is for rubber gaskets. exactly like the material you have a roll of. RTV is good stuff too, but you DO NOT use it with a 'paper' 'gasket, it is the gasket.

Used this stuff since the early 70s. I never used silicone or other sealers. Specialy when there is any chance of silicone getting into engines.

Silicone suks, if im doing metal to metal its gasket maker number 2, paper/rubber gaskets aviation is the stuff.
