Hahaha, damn how these songs just get stuck to my brain! Today I switched from Djingis Khan to Dagny, kom hit och spill ... 😆 However, THIS is a classic if there has ever been one. Good reaction!
Even though he mostly did novelty songs, he was probably the first in Sweden who understood the rock and roll idiom and also made recordings with a real rock and roll feeling back in the mid 1950s. He is still alive and was active at least a couple of years ago, and what is especially unique with him is that he owns the rights all the recordings of his songs. He was clever enough to buy them from the record companies Metronome and Philips where he recorded them.
In 1962 he made a "stoneage-waltz" called "Wilma!", referring to the then extremely popular US television cartoon "The Flintstones". The US producers found outthat Owe Thörnquist was singing the line "Yabba dabba doo"fromthe TV series, and threatened to sue him. But they changed their main, andinstead used Owe Thörnqvist's song in one episode of "The Flintstones".
If you like storytelling, you HAVE to start listening to Evert Taube. Especially his early songs are just amazing stories, mostly inspired by his time as a sailor in the 1890s. Swedes barely knew anything about Buenos Aires, Adelaide, Malabar and other places he sang about, and were of course mesmerized. Today, many people haven't heard him sing, but they've been singing his songs a lot in school and afterwards, and he's one of the most widely covered artists in Sweden. His son Sven-Bertil Taube, who recently passed away, has done tons of covers of his dads songs. Probably a good choice for a Tuesday night hang. A few suggestions (he wrote hundreds of songs) Baladen om briggen Blue Bird of Hull (this one is really dark) Mary Strand Möte i monsunen Balladen om Gustav Blom från Borås (fantastic tale about the perils of judging people by their appearance) Frithiof och Carmencita Frithiof Andersson (n-word warning) Karl-Alfred (I suggest the 1921 recording) Calle Schewens vals (Sven-Bertils version is awesome)
Yes, hope for some more reactions to Owe Thörnqvist. He was extremely popular back in the late 50's, early 60's, especially among us small kids. He took the rock'n roll sound to Sweden, even if it was played by the best jazz musicians in Sweden. His lyrics were always funny, complicated, intelligent and with small sassy undertones. We kids learnt the lyrics and sang his songs in school, on the last lesson before weekend. The teacher wasn't always so happy, because of the sassyness, but our classmates were cheering. Suggestion: Owe Thörnqvists "Per Olsson", his version of "Old McDonald had a farm".
Owe claims to be the one who presented rock 'n' roll to the Swedes. He's a funny and very talented guy, but he's a bit of a megalomaniac. :) Varmkorv boogie next!
Owe´s lyrics kicks butt! He´s right up there with Povel Ramel when it comes to swedish word-smithing in my opinion! The double entrendes are flying wild 👍👍😁😁
THE WANNADIES - YOU AND ME SONG!
Since we now in to some real oldies I suggest, for political insight, "Hanna från Arlöv" and "Vi måste höja våra röster" both comes with Nationalteatern. Both with lyrics that most swedes knows more or less and can sing along. And for your preferens of storytelling and skånska: Timbuktu: Flickan och kråkan eller Det löser sig.
He wrote lots of great songs. Some great lyrics and some great melodies though not always in the same songs. My favourites are Icke sa Nicke, Torsten på skorsten and Ösa sand.
When it comes to old school Swedish national pride, our language have always been a source of focus; This means that in a lot of romantic music, classical music, opera, "visa", styled songs.. You aren't REALLY a professional music if people can't hear you have the proper Swedish "Rolling R".. and in older styled recordings the sound can kind of disappear if you speak "sloppily", so a LOT of older singers ~really~ go in to the "R"-s extra.. as taught by vocal coaches, and requested by recording studios of the era.
I’m surprised you thought it was a (qualified) banger. Sure, we all do (people of my age bracket and ethnicity). I’m glad you appreciated the song. Owe did mostly comedy songs. For an example of one outside the Swedish mindset, try the love song ”Wilma!” (Yes. Flintstone.)
You should react to Petter, Ison & Fille och Mogge - För Alla Dom and Hootenanny singers omkring tiggarn från Luossa. Probably one of the most beautiful Swedish songs ever.
By the way; love your reactions!!🥰
He is still going strong, 93 years old (he turns 94 in March).
Tack för att du reagerade på Owe! Hoppas du ger *Alice Babs "Swing it Magistern"* en chans framöver också😉
If you put this on at a party, I have the feeling that the party will be going! We Swedish people are suckers for nostalgia 🤣

You can tell that he took the early rock genre to heart and went with it to evolve the Swedish rock and roll market to what it is today.
In 1962 he made a "stoneage-waltz" called "Wilma!", referring to the then extremely popular US television cartoon "The Flintstones". We were excited when we sang Dagny and Varm korv boogie on music lessons at Primary School. They were absolutely favourites.

It’s a Danish original… Fut i mejemöget meaning something like the dust is going up in flames! She doesn’t have to clean the house on Saturday!😅
In swedish Dagny is not pronounced with a hard "g". It is pronounced as it was spelled Dang-ny.
Yay, a real classic thank you for the reaction.

Fast bättre än 90-talet var.

Edvard Persson - Kalle på Spången
Great reaction and true swedish classic. 👏🏻🥰 ..and man you were close on the chorus 🙈🙈🙈

another suggestion: “it started with a love affair” by Jerry Williams.
Ja, gärna. :)
He wrote lots of great songs. Some great lyrics and some great melodies though not always in the same songs. My favourites are Icke sa Nicke, Torsten på skorsten and Ösa sand.
For me it's Loppan and Wilma. Lots of childhood memories with them. :-)
The first swedish rock ´n´roll - even if it wasn´t rock! He was a genious!Humour!!
A big hit that came out 2007 was Adam Tensta - My Cool. Hiphop/Electro that still sounds fresh today. Would be fun if you reacted to this song : )
Klassiker alltihopa!
Mauro Scocco - Sarah
Östen Med Resten - Hon kommer med solsken
Carola - Tommy tycker om mig
Thomas Ledin - En del av mitt hjärta
Kent - Utan dina andetag
Yes this is an old school banger. In the late 50's this must have been a "kioskvältare". Imagin sitting in a "fik" and play this song on a jukebox.
Haha great! I love him! His song Loppan is my favourite! But this one is good too!

You got the melody almost right!
När kommer nästa virala klipp?😍
Very good. Check out "Hjälp" were Owe sings about Ingo (Ingemar Johansson) that were world champion in boxing in the 50's. Owe also were a boxer.
I think it's time for some songs from Melodifestivalen in this time of the year. Maybe a Melodifestivalen Night Hang? 😃
I like this idea!
Owe talks (and sings) with an Uppsala/Uppland dialect.. Like myself.
You should react to Ted Gärdestad - Come give me love
Has been done on a Tuesday night hang with Ted-theme, look that one through!
Oh but you are so wrong!! Dagny is a partystarter, especially for bomers like me 🤣
I have two songs I would love for you to react to: 1. Den svenska björnstammen - Svalkar vinden, Tommy Nilsson - Öppna din dörr. Please mate.
You should react to Petter, Ison & Fille och Mogge - För Alla Dom and Hootenanny singers omkring tiggarn från Luossa. Probably one of the most beautiful Swedish songs ever.
Funny song and brings me back to my childhood. You should listen to Stefan Demert. His Anna Anaconda will probably make you laugh.😅
Ragnar - Björn Rosenström
Lennart - Björn Rosenström
Perssons gård - Wilmer X
Snapphaneklanen - Svenska Akademin
Min önskelista får bli Dan Hylander och Raj Montana Band; "Solregn" eller "Farväl Till Katalonien" 💞💞
"Doppa skorporna" is an old eufemism...
Time for some rock now: Takida-Curly Sue
You need to react to the song: (gôtt å leva)

Sam Cook was very good.
Its not a spesciall accent or dialect, with the Rs, its just that they used to pronounce better :P
I had not heard this version before, it sounded strange. But I guess this is the original. I have heard the version with "The playtones"
Mot okända hav - Marie Fredriksson
