Watching this again, I'm convinced this entire transformation sequence foreshadows the reveal of the city actually being an illusion inside a Witch barrier.
indeed so. sayaka sprinting into the reflection of herself implies oktavia, homura reaching out from amongst the feathers foreshadows homulilly, and madoka breaking through the glass...well...nuff said. :)
bairdrew Also read the witch runes that flash during homura's transformation (they only flash for a BRIEF moment), they say "I kill myself" and "They glorify death", and "To Mistress, we are bored" (the clara dolls apparantly)
kyokos is my fave out of all of them. her dancing like a witch around a fire as she shows off her illusion magic, which she never recovers. the images of her being burned alive as a witch when her father found out about her and disowned her (and all the other horrible stuff he did), plus the vaguely arabian/middle eastern style music with the harder rock sound is just awesome
To me actually found these transformations to be mildly disturbing, maybe because this is Madoka and I keep expecting bad things to happen LOL. When Mami does her spin she spins into a shape of a grief seed. Then her magical self burst out of it, ripping her normal form into petal pieces. Madoka's transformation is sooooo cute. But then when it shows her in "film strip" form, I got this overwhelming feeling that the happiness is not real and that this Madoka is just a projection ;n;. I love the glass breaking at the end though, it gave me hope. Sayaka's dance was the only one that felt cheerful to me. She ran INTO herself instead of her soul leaving her body like in her original transformation.
I like how despite the cheerfulness of this sequence, there are various creepy messages/symbolisms sprinkled throughout. It's one the reasons why I love this anime so much.
madoka transformation is so underrated. I think its great for using imagery to suggest "she's the divine" on top of that, the scene where u see multiple madoka dancing simply means there are so many madoka in different timeline created by homura, now there's one and only the divine/all seeing eye goddess Madoka
1) It kinda makes sense that Homura imagined that Mami would be the leader, cause she's older and she's been a magical girl the longer and stuff... :D 2)Am I the only one that loves the feel Decretum gives in Sayaka's transformation?
So, does anyone else notice how of all the sequences, Kyoko's and Sayaka's sound the most like a steady continuation? Like those 2 pieces of music were written to go together?
When i first saw Kyoko's transformation sequence i tought she was gonna turn into a witch at one part of the movie and that the hands and stuff were hints to what it might look like...
Now that is Fantastic, All the girls united as one against a dangerous foe. On the upside, all of their Magicl Girl outfits are really amazing. the details on the outfits are well done by the artists who worked on this movie.
I don't know why people think this is extra. It is very well writen. It shows that Homura wants a world like this, but by adding the dark stuff, it shows that she can never have it because there's always something going to go wrong.
Just a little Tangent thought to another comment, but the way the music progresses it's almost like it's fan shipping them through the songs and even animation. Sayaka and Kyoko's progress perfectly together and they have heavy water and fire motifs respectively, Homura's and Madoka's mirror pretty well and considering one is the devil and the other is god it makes decent sense and since Mami is usually just a left over for shipping without charolette, her music stands out on its own
You could probably write a paper on all the symbolism in this scene. For now, let me see if I got this right: Mami: Breaking out of her silhouette as a normal girl into a magical girl because she would have been dead had she not become a magical girl. Kyoko: Tearing apart that frame with her eyes on it like how becoming a magical girl tore apart and destroyed her family. Sayaka: Jumped head long into the identity of a magical girl and lost herself in the process. Homura: Reaching. Always reaching through time, and eventually space, reaching through the fabric of reality and coming out a magical girl. Madoka: ? Honestly a bit lost on this one. I get her symbolism just fine as a whole, but really, I'm just quick-anlyzing the specific parts where they are changing between their normal and magical forms, and shots of Madoka show up a few times before she fully appears. Perhaps a reference to the other timelines? The eye of providence and shattering glass are obvious references to her god-hood, but not really the struggle or sacrifice that all the other transformations reference. Any additional thoughts?
Yeah, just rewatched the scene, Madoka's is really different then the others. Mami breaks out of herself, Kyoko tears the bit with her dance in half, Sayaka runs into her magical self, and Homura also sort of burst out of herself. Madoka is the only one whose dance scene doesn't transition straight into her magical girl self, though the full significance of that fact, I am not entirely sure.
Something I just noticed is that during Madoka’s transformation, we never see her fully coloured. She’s always either a silhouette or is completely black with coloured outlines. Since this is the version of Madoka that Homura see’s, she places her on a pedestal, hence us only seeing her in silhouette. Or it could also represent that the version of Madoka Homura see’s isn’t really real, only a caricature of the real Madoka, as Homura has gone through so many loops, she forgot Madoka was a real person, only viewing her as a goal and as a person to comfort.
I don't know if all of you noticed that, but when Homura transforms she dashes out, and the same thing is done during her transformation into a witch, when she dashes after the falling Madoka. It's literally the same, with the black-shadowy stuff, just another outfit.
Something about Madoka's transformation is so unsettling, moreso than the others, and that's why it's my favorite out of the bunch. I also love how she makes the all-seeing eye symbol, implying she's literally God
That's actually sort of the point. Before Madoka changed the rules, magical girls were just slaves with magical powers and pretty outfits. No matter what name they prettied it up with, the Incubators saw them pretty much the same way we see dairy cows.
TKHikaru13 Yeah, I knew that. It's just interesting that this was the first time in the show that they actually spoke the word. SPOILER ALERT Maybe because it's Homura's dream world, and she was the only one who knew what was really going on.
Just now realized the songs were based off of those themes suddenly today while I was at work. The only ones that are sort of obvious are Sayaka's and Homura's though.
MissCagedDemons SPOILERS! That's because the movie takes place in Homuras witch labyrinth. It's a fake ideal world where the others don't die and Madoka doesn't become a God. And because those things didn't happen in this fake world, Homura never ended up with the bow.
Guyssss omg look at 1:22 Sayaka don't show her face she put her hands in the face like someone trying to hide something but she isn't trying to hide something but someone, in that case, herself for all things that she discovers about the soul gem and about her, and this can be confirmed even more in the song cake scene when she put again her hands in her face. OMG I like even more that anime because it have a lot of meaning
Notice how mami, kyoko, sayaka, and homura are first colored as their soul gem but madoka is colored black Ex: 0:07 mami is yellow 2:05 madoka is black Possible representing how she isn’t actually there
Their transformations in the series and the last two movies are much better, I would not even call these "transformation sequences" :/ but I have to admit I love the idea of Sayaka being a b-girl xD
The entire first half of the movie foreshadows the city being a illusion tbh.
kyokos is my fave out of all of them. her dancing like a witch around a fire as she shows off her illusion magic, which she never recovers. the images of her being burned alive as a witch when her father found out about her and disowned her (and all the other horrible stuff he did), plus the vaguely arabian/middle eastern style music with the harder rock sound is just awesome
It’s literally shiva’s wife metaphor…
Mami = figure skating
Kyoko = traditional/folk?
Sayaka = breakdancing
Homura = ballet
Madoka = uh, JPop?
Madoka's like, generic idol.
I always saw kyoko playing a DDR type game.
Madoka is more like the embodiment of the cliché magical girl
Mami = Ballet
Kyoko = Tribal Dance
Sayaka= Breakdance
Homura= Interpretive Dance
Madoka= JPop/ Idol
I feel that Homura is ballet because of the concept behind her (SPOILER) witch form concept; Homulilly, tje Nutcracker Witch.
To me actually found these transformations to be mildly disturbing, maybe because this is Madoka and I keep expecting bad things to happen LOL. When Mami does her spin she spins into a shape of a grief seed. Then her magical self burst out of it, ripping her normal form into petal pieces. Madoka's transformation is sooooo cute. this is a nice observation
I like how despite the cheerfulness of this sequence, there are various creepy messages/symbolisms sprinkled throughout. It's one the reasons why I love this anime so much.
1:56 the floor is Madoka
Truffa M LMAO
Tbh homura wouldn't avoid the floor
what tHE HELL LMAO XDDDD
madoka transformation is so underrated. I think its great for using imagery to suggest "she's the divine"
on top of that, the scene where u see multiple madoka dancing simply means there are so many madoka in different timeline created by homura, now there's one and only the divine/all seeing eye goddess Madoka
Fan XD Square Enix Huh, I never thought or was it like that. All the symbolism makes me love this scene even more. Thanks for pointing that out.
1) It kinda makes sense that Homura imagined that Mami would be the leader, cause she's older and she's been a magical girl the longer and stuff... :D
2)Am I the only one that loves the feel Decretum gives in Sayaka's transformation?
You're not the only one. I get chills hearing Sayaka' s theme.
It's almost like Yuki Kajiura wrote all of the music and purposefully reincorporates music from other parts of the show
Kyouko's transformation scene reminds me of Esmerelda in Frollo's hallucination from "Hellfire." Her transformation is also my favorite.
Same
So, does anyone else notice how of all the sequences, Kyoko's and Sayaka's sound the most like a steady continuation? Like those 2 pieces of music were written to go together?
Same can be said to Homura and Madoka.
That last bit of ballet from Homura's transformation is from The Dying Swan. HELLO FORESHADOWING.
When i first saw Kyoko's transformation sequence i tought she was gonna turn into a witch at one part of the movie and that the hands and stuff were hints to what it might look like...
im like WOW this beautiful
mami is flexble
kyoko is cool
sayaka is a break dancer
homura is a ballereena
madoka is ok
hanami chan! look at their henshin plss:(
I agree
madOK
I love how Madoka is literally god and she's just ok lol
SJDSJDJJDKA
SAYAKA IS A BREAKDANCER XD
I like how the transformations have so much symbolism and reflections on each character
Fav girl: Kyoko
Fav background music from here: Sayaka
Fav transformation: Homura
Some creepy subliminal stuff mixed in.
The all-seeing eye?
***** The first rune is "Mami".
Second : "Sayaka"
In Homura's transformation there's :
1:33 --> "To mistress, we're bored"
1:38 --> "I kill myself"
1:49 --> "They glorify deathV"
wiki.puella-magi.net/Runes:The_Rebellion_Story
:d
Xuan-Mai Nguyen Damn Homura 0_0
Now that is Fantastic, All the girls united as one against a dangerous foe. On the upside, all of their Magicl Girl outfits are really amazing. the details on the outfits are well done by the artists who worked on this movie.
You remind me of Gen Urobuchi on drugs
I don't know why people think this is extra. It is very well writen. It shows that Homura wants a world like this, but by adding the dark stuff, it shows that she can never have it because there's always something going to go wrong.
I actually really like these scenes even if they are cliché ,the transformations are very well done and inspiring in design and concept.
they arent cliche actually........the have so much symbolism in them it hurts
this isn't cliche at all..
FORESHADOWING
Just a little Tangent thought to another comment, but the way the music progresses it's almost like it's fan shipping them through the songs and even animation. Sayaka and Kyoko's progress perfectly together and they have heavy water and fire motifs respectively, Homura's and Madoka's mirror pretty well and considering one is the devil and the other is god it makes decent sense and since Mami is usually just a left over for shipping without charolette, her music stands out on its own
Breakdancing Sayaka ftw
This is the very reason why I like Sayaka's transformation the best.
did anyone notice the big mistake?
homura has got the shield on her right arm when she dashes forward
woah awesome find! :D
I find it odd that they literally zoomed in on it if it was a mistake, but it is odd that it doesn't appear in the following shots.
Is a hint of the fact that the shield don't really exist.
I love how Homura's dancing is ballet, which ties into her Nutcracker imagery in her witch form
You could probably write a paper on all the symbolism in this scene. For now, let me see if I got this right:
Mami: Breaking out of her silhouette as a normal girl into a magical girl because she would have been dead had she not become a magical girl.

Mami: why the heck does my lower back hurt all the time? _Transforms_ Nevermind, I feel better :3
I like how Sayaka is a break dancer :3
did madoka just put up an illuminati sign?!
Wella she *is* an all seeing godess
jesus, this is beautiful. I keep watching it.
I never knew Madoka was a member of the Illuminati
Pandora Akemi yeah me too
I have no idea why but this looks like the coolest thing ever
Mighty Morph Lesbian Rangers xD
I love you because of your profile pic :)

my favourites are mami's and sayaka's. i love the imagery of their magical girl forms "emerging" from their normal ones
2:43 Ship on the left.
Ship on the right.
Perfectly balanced. Don't worry mami you have nagisa/charlotte/bebe
F it imma just call her benagotte.
i wouldn't mind an extended version of that decretum remix.
Decretum in the series: "Sayaka's lost it..."
Decretum in Rebellion: "Sayaka's got this!"
damn but sagitta iuminis really is the definition of "most triumphant music"
I LOVE Kyoko ' s and Homura ' s transformations
*"Moe'ed to death"*
+キュゥべえ ですか? Lol
For some reason I really love this
I don't know if all of you noticed that, but when Homura transforms she dashes out, and the same thing is done during her transformation into a witch, when she dashes after the falling Madoka. It's literally the same, with the black-shadowy stuff, just another outfit.
I want a full version of the "decretum" featured here, come on that was an awesome reprise >.>
Dat Decretum.
i need that seperated. I NEED. TO LIVE.
Kyoko looks so fucking cute in this. And in the entire movie. And series. Gosh, she is so cute :3
Being meguca is suffering.
Something about Madoka's transformation is so unsettling, moreso than the others, and that's why it's my favorite out of the bunch. I also love how she makes the all-seeing eye symbol, implying she's literally God
The first time in the series where they finally transform like a normal magical girl
that was fun! *dances*
... How come Madoka is the first one to fall (You know, the closest to the ground at the end) but the last one to land?
parachute skirt
The music and animation style makes it look like they're turning into witches in my opinion.
But mainly the animation style.
Maybe that was intended
I think it might be because they're inside Homulilly's barrier
that was beautiful. i love the unique animation.
Fabric, sparks, flowers and stage lights
I like how each of the transformations tell the stories of the magical girls/recap the series
Just realized the order they do this in is technically the timeline order they became Magical Girls
I guess they never took Latin; they might've learned that "puella" means "slave girl".
SPOILER ALERT
Maybe because it's Homura's dream world, and she was the only one who knew what was really going on.
andyjay729 Ahh, I see who you're referring to now. It does make sense.
Kyoko is so cooooooooooooooooooool!!!!!!!
0:34 honestly favorite transformation, is mostly the music that gives me good vibes 😎
Just now realized the songs were based off of those themes suddenly today while I was at work. The only ones that are sort of obvious are Sayaka's and Homura's though.
Madoka and friends transformations
So cool and pretty 😍🤩💛❤️💙💜💗🌸💮🌸🤩😍
They did a fine job making this scene both girly and grotesque.
Was i the only person who didn't realize, one their first viewing of Rebellion. that it made no sense that Homura had her shield rather than her bow?
MissCagedDemons SPOILERS!
That's because the movie takes place in Homuras witch labyrinth. It's a fake ideal world where the others don't die and Madoka doesn't become a God. And because those things didn't happen in this fake world, Homura never ended up with the bow.
the new winx club looks good
Bad Guy be like:
- What the fuck is taking so long?
1:45 symbolism
0:34 best girl
0:54 DAH! Creepy.
Ok, Mami is obvisouly doing ballet, Sayaka is doing Break dancing and Madoka typical idol japan dance, what about Kyouko and Homura?
Mami is figure skating, ballerinas can't continuously glide across the floor. She's my favourite Puella magi
mami figure skating
kyoko flameco dancing i think
sayaka break dancing
homura ballet
madoka JPop
Bella Boyd nah, kyouko was doing like, Indian dances, like bollywood stuff
i really love Mami`s transformation
Guyssss omg look at 1:22 Sayaka don't show her face she put her hands in the face like someone trying to hide something but she isn't trying to hide something but someone, in that case, herself for all things that she discovers about the soul gem and about her, and this can be confirmed even more in the song cake scene when she put again her hands in her face. OMG I like even more that anime because it have a lot of meaning
This group transformation sequence can literally give someone epilepsy syndrome XD
Mami + kyoko = 3
In my opinion, and when Madoka's soul gem is on her head it looks like a crown (with the ribbons as well)
man mami sure is great at ice dancing
Idky it took me so long 2 realize that each of their themes are playing as they transform.😂 I didn't realize until Homura's transformation.
Notice how mami, kyoko, sayaka, and homura are first colored as their soul gem but madoka is colored black
Ex: 0:07 mami is yellow
2:05 madoka is black
Possible representing how she isn’t actually there
Madoka Made an Illuminati eye in her hands wow danger haha
Yay! You uploaded this one too! :D :D :D
Dat break dance from Sayaka XDD"!
0:20 - 0:21 mami came out of the shadows ass 0-0
さやかがクラウチングスタートするところなんか既視感あるなって思ったら影の魔女戦でも杏子の制止を聞かずに突進した時にクラウチングスタートしてたな
This is making me want to release my inner magical girl
This is why I fucking love Gekidan Inu Curry
I was a bit surprise on kyoko transformation with the whole sketch thing
i love the part where sayaka starts breakdancing for some reason???
at 1:37 during homura’s sequence you can see runes appear for a split second, translating to “ICH TÖTE MICH” which means “I kill myself”
Las amo Puellas Mágicas.
2:24 Illuminatti confirmed?
Mami💛
Their transformations in the series and the last two movies are much better, I would not even call these "transformation sequences" :/ but I have to admit I love the idea of Sayaka being a b-girl xD
My five cursed queens
¿Someone knows what the runs say in Homura transformation, 1:33?
Madoka make an illuminati eye in her hands wow danger
am I the only one who noticed that homura didnt complete get out of her black silohette
What was the song for madoka? great video btw 😊
at 1:23 I wonder what the Runes Say on Sayaka’s transformation. (sorry if someone already asked this couldn’t find it anywhere else)
This is rones Sayaka
I wonder how long it took to animate this
ITS MORPHING TIME!!!!!
2:18 what is up with that sudden change in art style
Does anyone not notice how the transformations have a split second of where you can see their witch forms?!?!
0:42 Kyoko is a Zenyetta main
2:22 Illuminati confirmed
