My father has many of Chet's albums ( I grew up listening to him ). My mom and I watched a PBS special last night from him in 1987. It featured Mark Knopfler, Emmylou Harris, Michael MacDonald, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and the Everly Brothers. He ended the concert with this song ( I don't think I knew it before ). How powerful!! My father is still here but I suspect, not for a whole lot longer due to health issues. I'm trying to mentally prepare for the inevitable. I'll never forget this song. It just resonates with how I feel as it must for so, so many.

I too am missing my Dad tonight, He was such a great Father, I was truly blessed to have both him and my Mom in my life. I love you both Mom and Dad I just can not say goodbye
My dad has been gone for ten years. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him, and miss him. Like Mr. Atkins sang, I'm 39 years old and "I'm still trying to be like him"...work hard, do the best I can to provide for my family. My one greatest hope is tgat, where ever dad is, I hope he's proud of me.
I grew up my whole life listening to Chet Atkins because when I was a child the only music we got to listen to was my mom and dad's and they were huge fans of Chet Atkins and I'm so glad they were because I probably never would have heard of him unless they would have played him for me first. I love him one of the most talented to get to her players in the whole world I absolutely adore him and I miss him

Chet shunned Gram Parsons...and despite his talents with a guitar...I think less of him for it. If you think back, many in Nashville wanted to shun Chester but for the appreciation of Mother Maybelle, his career would have been lost. Then, years later, Chet opposed the talents of Gram Parsons feeling he did not "belong"...he was too different. Emmylou Harris was never going to let country music forget Gram Parsons...your talents were a gift to us all!
