    My husband died 9 months ago suddenly at age 40. He introduced this movie to me when it came out in 2006. I didn't understand it much. Over the years, we watched it a few more times, and each time it ripped apart my soul in the most cathartic way. Since he died, I have known that it will be necessary for me to watch this again. I'm just not ready because I don't know if it will bring me peace, or send me into a dark abyss. It'll come though. I'm just grateful to know this masterpiece exists, and my love brought it to me.

      I’m deeply sorry for your loss, but glad that you have the happy memories that you do. They say grief is love with nowhere to go. So whether feeling peace or darkness it is ultimately an expression of love. It’s ok to miss him, just as it is ok to feel sad sometimes. But always try to remember what he would’ve wanted for you, which is for you to be happy, and smile.

    Most critics didn't get it. It's too creative and emotionally challenging for some people. The Fountain is as beautiful as it is heartbreaking. I love Aronofsky, Jackman and Weisz for making it. I've taken this road to awe every few years since the year it came out. It makes me cry and value my wife with raw intensity every single time. i just watched it again. Excuse me while I go hug her.

      Say in 25 years, your kids are grown and your wife gets sick and has to be in bed most of the time. Her brain is still bright, but she can’t leave her room or her bed and you have to work long hard days, day after day, year after year. Hours of working, cooking, cleaning, shopping...but you come home and she is still sick in bed. Could you still love her that much after taking care of her for 15 years?

      @Coyotebones I would agree with you, its basically about as perfect as a film can be. Every piece of this work of art is a 10/10 or close to it. The story especially, upon deep reflection reminds me of an infinity loop, a story of life and death, how the two are inextricably connected to each other into one long endless loop.
      It was virtually impossible to see where the movie begun and ended, such is the mastery of how the stories were woven together in on themselves.

    First, this trailer is wonderful and movies of today could learn a lot from it. Second, this is one of the most criminally underrated movies of the past 20 years. And third, quite easily Hugh Jackman's greatest performance that many don't even know about.

    • @alexandrasimon7191

      I've just learned about The Fountain from a random reddit post, as someone wrote it was the best movie they had ever seen, and I am simply flabbergasted reading all these people praising it and saying how it was one of the greatest cinematographic experiences of their life. How is it that I (and seemingly noone else) have never heard about it??? I know I need to watch it.

    • @gpboxing
      @gpboxing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@alexandrasimon7191 - It's not a film for the masses. For some, it may not even be an easy experience (due to the topic it forces you to think about). I can't promise that you'll enjoy it. But if you're one of those that this film is targeted at, you might do. It's very unique and beautiful in its own way.

    • @gomi_cat
      @gomi_cat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think this movie is among the best of its generation, however I somehow didn't expect the trailer to be like this... it is almost too much of an explanation vs the weird mystery and vague notions of time that were beautifully rendered in the movie. I feel like I would prefer to show someone the movie first, before they saw this trailer, as even if it does kind of sum up some weird canned version of the film as a basic "love time travel story"... it fails to truly hit the notes of what makes this film such a masterpiece. But then again who am I to judge... Im sure they went with test/think tanks to determine the best response to the trailer, which is noble in that it at least gets people into a theater to sit down and be surprised by something so magically artistic they might not even like the film, but at least it got them there for it to imprint on their souls.

    • @gpboxing
      @gpboxing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@gomi_cat - yeah, I understand what you mean. But I do think for the reasons you state (towards the end of your post), they took this route with it. If you've already watched the movie (and enjoyed it), this trailer does appear to be giving a lot away. But I think that's hindsight kicking in. I think new, fresh audiences who are seeing this trailer for the first time, are being hit with the correct level of intrigue to want to go check the movie out.

    IMHO this is timeless classic which one can watch over and over again.
    This film gets better with each viewing. The performances, the directorial choices and the soundtrack are a thing of real beauty.
    I can safely say this is Aronofsky's best work till date. What people don' t realise is that this is an actual love story with all the edges intact. Love can transcend time and space.
    The same theme was repeated in Nolan's Interstellar (2014) albeit in a much more subtle and puritan way.
    The Fountain is just a metaphor for defining the existence of a human life and associated elements. Life is everything yet it is nothing.

    I'm sad to read bad comments about this movie and sadly critics had destroyed it. I have lost a lot of important people in my life and the first time I watched this film cried like a baby, this is not a movie for everyone, but is a movie for people like us who suffered the lost of someone important. Pass through all the states you pass when the lost comes and in some sense helps to see life as a diverse cicle in which we all turn a part of everything in the world even you want or not.

    What a beautiful movie! Challenging to watch. I will definitely watch this again with my love. Those who are emotionally mature and/or have suffered loss should gain an appreciation for how thought provoking this film is. Being aware of our own demise has many of us creating our own theories about what actually happens when we die. You can’t destroy energy. In a sense we never fully cease to exist. This is a wonderful take on death and transcendence.

    I saw this movie at a time when I thought a lot about death and feared death. I identified so much with the main character. His pain and grief and his journey to enlightenment. I cried so much when she died. It broke my heart honestly, but the ending of the movie was so powerful and inspiring. This movie helped me so much to change my perspective about death. I still fear it a bit sometimes, but I don’t have the same anxiety thinking about it.
    This movie is very clear in it’s message, but still leaves a lot of room for reflection. I don’t find the story too complicated or hard to follow either.

    This is my understanding of it. There is no one reality. All realms are illusionary, all managed by unique “laws” of physics . We can “wake” into the distinct realms, either carrying our struggles along with us or making peace with them. Non attachment to the illusion of the physical realms is the road to freedom, to a cosmic form of consciousness.

    My guy was in the Fountain and The Prestige in the same year? .how did he find time to make Origins Wolverine?

    • @deletedwaffles
      @deletedwaffles 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Although both The Fountain and The Prestige came out the same year they were not filmed all within one year. The Fountain was filmed in early 2005 for a couple months, The Prestige began shooting in early 2006 (January to April), and X-Men Origins: Wolverine began filming late 2007. Plenty of time in between each movie to get into the role of the next movie.

    .. you are on a quest.. follow hints and you will start to remember why you sent yourself on this state.. when you remember you will know.. when you know you will be born again.. and you will move on.. even if you dont belive you belive.. its the voice in your head thats talking you this.. Im just a rememberance for something you asked for long ago.. now ask yourself whos speaking in your head? how does it sound? is that your voice or mine? and if its mine how do you know my voice? are you reading or is someone speaking in your head? follow that voice in your head and you will get all the answers you need.. stay astonished and belive for it is real.. just like the voice in your head..

    This is not a film. It's a statement.
    A simple and same time a complex statement.
    Death is an act of creation.
    When you accept it as it is , life starts there. For some it's a new start and for others it's just the continuation.
