I discovered Paul Wilson a few months ago and can not praise him enough. I have been playing for 25 yrs and became a 3 hdcp. Unfortunately I lost my swing and began watching hundreds of youtube vids etc...w no luck. I then found Paul. UNBELIEVABLE! I'm 62 and a 4 hcp. Every 4-5 years I get the shanks at the range. Yesterday was the day. Couldn't stop... hit 2 buckets of hosel rockets with my 6 and 9 iron. I've never been 100% sure why, but I find a way to work through/around it. This morning I went to the range hoping these tips worked but accepted the fact that I might cancel today's round of golf if Paul's video wasn't "the fix". Hit the ball great at the range and didn't once consider that I might shank one on the course. I now know the root of the problem and it actually helped me hit the ball even more solidly due to improved posture and proper weight balance,
    Thank you very much!👍👍

Glad you found me. I can fix swings in minutes. Been doing so since 1991. So as much as there are other fixes for shanks out there they don't work. @@paulwilsongolf First time ever that I understood why a shank happens...my posture and weight distribution. I don't foresee this being an issue ever again.
I purchased your BODY SWING series yesterday. Looking at a recent video of mine, my hip rotation was there, but way too late. Worked on that this morning and I was hitting the ball 240+ with what felt like a lesser (easier) swing. Incorporating the wrist hinging drills and speeding up the hip rotation and I can see no reason that 250-260 drives are in my future. Never thought having the shanks would end up being a blessing but finding your video and learning your process has been transformational after just 2 days. Thank You!

I am 6’4” and this provided an instant fix. It’s so counter intuitive that when you’re making contact on the inside of your club that you SHOULD NOT stand further away (because that increases the forward lean even more). I started standing a little closer to the ball with the more upright club tilt and my shanks stopped immediately. Great video.

Paul you are a genius! I've battled random shanks for years when I was playing often. When I was playing regularly I was a single digit player. I haven't played in years but had family coming for a visit and Top Golf was in the plans. I went to driving range hoping to find my swing but instead found nothing but shanks. It was terrible. Even when I didn't shank the ball I was near the hosel on impact. I had no clue what the problem was until I watched your video. I focused on your suggestions from the video. When I made my very first swing at Top Golf I was a bit nervous but the shot was pure. I proceeded to go flag hunting and was hitting 5 greens in a row multiple times throughout the evening. My swing was back and thanks to you. Best of all I never even came close to a shank the whole evening. I had so much confidence when I left and was so proud of my performance. Everything you said made so much sense and was spot on. Thanks again for your video.

I just wish I had known this long ago but better late than never. When I left the range trying to find my swing I told my wife that I might as well sell my clubs because I know longer have skills to use them. I realize Top Golf balls don’t have the same flight characteristics as a normal ball however they certainly can be shanked. Ask me how I know from previous experiences a year or so ago. I’ve always crouched probably more than I should but when I played more it wasn’t a major problem but I remember shanking as a junior golfer. I have renewed enthusiasm thanks to you!

As someone who used to play a lot and shoot 70s consistently I was really close to quitting the game. I don’t play as much as I used to because of work and such. @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

So glad you found me. Shanks are not fun but super simple to fix. If you have shot in the 70's you have the fundamentals. Be sure you do daily practice swings if you are not getting out there as much as you want. You need to keep the remembering the motion. Plus, the longer the break the more you will want to hit with the arms so practice swings keeps the feeling of using the body. I talk about it here:
      th-cam.com/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/w-d-xo.html
Stay focused and check your set up every time. If so, the shanks will never come back.

So glad you found me. Shanking is not fun. When people take a break then will wander up to a ball bent over too much. This is because this takes zero effort and doesn't put your body under stress. Doing a more athletic set up takes you physically doing it and there is a little stress. Plus, the taking a break gets you hitting with the arms when you get back into it because human nature is telling you to hit the object sitting in front of you. When you hit this can lean you forward as well and you get the shanks. So keep doing the more athletic set up. Then keep the arms relaxed as you use your legs and hips to hit the ball. Let's get you to a single digit this season. Easy to do.

Shanking was largely what triggered me to quit golf about 15 years ago. I picked up playing again three years ago and found myself occasionally shanking, often at the end of the round. I looked at many videos, but yours was the one which held the cure! Stand up straighter! (and keeping weight in middle of feet). I'm 6'5" so had been tending to have my body weight over the ball. I give you credit for your shank fix diagnosis and cures. As a periodic shanker it’s my belief that many shanks are the direct result of moving the back hip (for right handers) forward as your rotating instead of moving your left hip back, away from the club path. The result is a small and that’s all it takes, movement toward the ball. This is also coupled and associated with early extension.

For some reason maybe once a year I will get the shanks to where I cant hit a single good shot in a round an wont know whats causing it. Paul thank you! You are a life saver! My golf season was going well and then 2 days ago, right before a big match I went to warm up at the range and hit a full bucket of shanks and topped balls. I returned to the range a day later, after losing my match and did the same thing. In absolute desperation and frustration I searched online and found this video.
What a difference! Today I went out and right away the problem was gone! I went out and played a round; shot 40 on the back 9! (Never mind the front! 😁). Your “right heel/left heel” drill not only eliminated the shank, but I’m hitting crisper shots (all clubs) and transferring more power into my shot, hitting the sweet spot far more often!
    Thanks again, great lesson!

If you have never gone through this how can you relate? I am a nice guy but 34 years of people not listening or trying to prove me wrong has taken it's toll. I want people to get this so bad so when they don't listen it's tough. Knowing this I try to dumb it down more and more so eventually it is so simple people try it. As I didn't have time to go to the range before my tee time today, I simply practiced these tips with my practice swing for about 5 minutes and kept a note in my pocket listing each tip so I could remember them throughout the round. Only had two shots shank across all 18 holes, and both of those times I felt exactly where my weight was incorrectly distributed. No matter what I tried I could not get out of it. So I turned to TH-cam for some inspiration. I watched yr video about stand tall with the short iron and liked the simplicity
Next day I hit 100 plus 50 to 60yd pitches and no shank. This sounds like I'm being paid to say this but check me out I'm a 12 index golfer who can play a bit but was falling down a slippery slope . So for now thanks for the free advice on my shanks . I actually hit a couple of longer shots using your 90 to 90 method and creamed both with an 8 iron. Solid contact shots. I nearly cried.

Starting shanking my irons almost two years ago. I had given up playing all together and only came out for Best Ball tourneys that I was invited to for hitting bombs off the tee...lol. Last game i played was back in October and lost almost 20 balls from shanking and with a ball speed around 165 - it was dangerous to be on the course. Watched this video after a friend sent it and to be honest had no expectations on a fix. Simple weight shift and my swing felt stable even practicing in the garage. Played last week and was blown away. Irons were crisp and yardage was dead on. Lost one ball after an aggressive line on a drive but that was it. Absolutely amazing. I owe ya a tab on the 19th bud.

Thank you! I am single marker and also play hickory golf. Doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it hangs around - soul and confidence destroying. Happened this weekend on my last hole with the 48 wedge. Followed me home and has shadowed me all week. I was going insane - until I came upon your video. My compliments to you, the best thing is how you explained very simply why it happens. And it is remarkable how the confidence suddenly returns. Thank you 🙏

i cannot thank you enough. My coach couldn’t figure out what im doing wrong and neither did i. I have been struggling for the past 3 weeks and wanting to give up on golf. I have really big tournaments this weekend and I thought I couldn’t go because my confidence is all gone. I watched your video and within seconds drove to my range to try those tips out. Some of my shots are still shanks but its waaaayyy better. Thank you so so muchh

Mr. Wilson I want to thank so very much for this video. I have tried everything to stop the shanks. The tip to stand taller has done it! At long last I've finally rid myself of the thing that has ruined my golf for the last 20 years. Sir, I thank you!

Once again Paul you have saved my game! Have a trip starting tomorrow with some buddies. Yesterday this affliction showed up and ruined my practice round. Emergency range session today. A couple mildly squirrelly ones early but after that the wedges were all good! Thanks so much!

Paul, You are spot on when it comes to this video. I got the case of the Shanks my last 8 games and sure enough I watched your video and took down some notes and I literally played a great game of golf yesterday without shanking the ball once. The stand taller method and understanding how my body was moving forward causing the club to move was a major breakthrough. I love how you teach, real easy information to digest and use on the range or course. thanks again for the help!

Very good. It really is simple to fix the shanks. I have done it for years in minutes ever after the person has had numerous lessons to fix them. Just need to understand "why" you are doing it. Understand why and you can fix it. Please remember to keep checking it into the future. We don't want them coming back.

I have been shanking and having problems with my wedges for a while. I’m 6’3 and tried this today. The one that really worked for me is back heel to front heel! It instantly improved my contact and connection. This might be a game changer for me! Thank you for this easy gold nugget!

I'm going to give your shank fix a try as soon as I get to the range. I've been contemplating hanging up my new clubs and quitting the game because of this ego-deflating shank. I thought this problem was due to my back injury which kept me from golfing for 5 years. After watching your video, I believe I can fix it in 5 minutes. I'll keep you posted as soon as I get through my 1st bucket. Maybe there's hope for my game after all!

No need to be worried about shanking. You will fix it in minutes just like the other commenters below. This works! I have been plagued by shanks this year that popped up randomly in my pitch shots. I couldn’t figure it out, it turns out I was out over my toes when I was choking up (making a short club shorter). It was made worse the day after a workout or late in a round. This flat out works!

I developed a hosel rocket last year and this year it has been awful! I watched your video, made notes and took it to the range this afternoon and WOW! One mishit and the rest of the strikes were more centred on the clubface. Went from my 56 to my 5 iron with immediate improvement! Some work to do on direction, but solid contact throughout the bag. Thanks so much!

Paul, I had a few bad shank experiences on the range and really got nervous about having the swing follow me to the course. I came home, watched this video, and promptly returned to the range. Presto! I stood taller and made tremendous contact. Stood taller during my round today on all clubs and focused on weight on the laces. Much better contact! Appreciate this tip.

Paul, that is absolutely amazing. I am 6'2, play off 11 but started shanking short irons. It has been a couple weeks now and completely debilitating. This took less than 2 minutes on the mat to sort. "Stand tall is all that is in my mind now with 8 down. I cannot thank you enough.

I am an old bag who has been golfing for 30 years....I love golf.....but was almost ready to quit playing altogether because of shanking my short irons. It is embarrassing and demoralizing! I tried everything, but couldn't stop shanking. Then I ran across your channel and today tried standing taller.....what do you know....no shanks today!!! I could hug you! I hope I can remember this tip in the future (I'm old) . I really appreciate your method of teaching as it is easy to understand and makes sense. I am also trying to get looser wrists and turn off my arms....(I've been an arms "hitter" for all my life). Thank you so much, Paul.
