      I'm gonna guess you re"installed" the bigsby wrong. If you don't know how to tighten them properly, it leads to tuning stability problems. One of the common causes of Bigbsy, problems is becuase users over tighten them.

    • @hkguitar1984
      @hkguitar1984 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@popeye089 I concur. A quick visit to the Bigsby Website, under the "Support" heading list several important steps required to prevent tuning stability issues.
      One of the main steps is that when installing new strings each string needs to be crimped at a 45-degree angle next to the ball end. Failure to follow this one step is enough to cause tuning issues.
      All that needed to be done is check the manufactures website.
      I really doubt the builder or owner of a new $55,000 guitar would tolerate such issues. Like I said, the Bigsby website has got to be the last word on all things Bigsby.
      Just my $.02 Cents.

    Like Randy Rhoads said when a student was afraid to handle his guitar because he might scratch it, “you can either be a guitar player and put your own wear on it from practicing hard, or you can hang it on the wall”.
    We have ourselves a wall hanger that won’t stay in tune for only 55,000. 🤭

      Read a fun fact: in the early days of electric guitars it was the opposite. Everyone was desperate to keep their guitars perfect, so much so that Fender switched to Rosewood fretboards because “the maple gets dirty”!

    Metal inlays would probably make sanding the radius into the fretboard a huge pain in the ass. And did you notice the lack of tooling marks on the fretboard? I am not convinced they are even familiar with the concept.

      +1 about the metal inlays and sanding issues.
      As for the lack of tool marks on the fingerboard, most of those marks on a Gibson are specifically from filing the fret nibs into the binding.
      This guitar's neck is unbound, so there would likely be no finishing filing other than dressing the fret ends.

    • @jondough76
      @jondough76 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hkguitar1984 I didn't think about the binding/nibs. Maybe Gibson should just do away with fret nibs since they can't seem to finish them properly without chewing up the board. I have never been a fan of the nibs anyway.

      That said, I've a 1986 Les Paul Custom with almost 40 years of regular playing wear. The fingerboard binding still looks great, however, due to the binding the edge of the fingerboard lacks the rolled edge/worn-in feel of my older Fender guitars. If I were to custom order a Les Paul (Standard or Custom) I'd omit the fingerboard binding and request the edges rolled over.

    I guess there is a market for this type of thing, but forget the whole debate about if you like a relic or not. I think the main problem here is a guitar that costs $55,000 that doesn't stay in tune or sound good. I just played a new 70's re issue that was like $2,500 and it played and sounded great. If you really wanted to go all out there's the Custom Shop Vs for like 5 grand, and the Korinas for like 10k. All better options if you ask me.

    Price is crazy but as relics go, that is a nicely created beasty. Move the decimal point so its 5.5k and I would be tempted, but I also appreciate the amount of time and craft that go into creating an art piece like that so I'm just pleased to get to see a Trogly teardown 😎

      Right… I mean I always say how much I hate relic jobs. But this guitar has a cool vibe to it. I mean, if I had the money maybe I would pay a guy $2000 to do this to my guitar. Or I could just do it myself… The trickiest thing is just having a metal shop make a new pickguard for you. Anyway… But the point is that it’s an art piece and yada yada yada, and since you’re done, paying for medical school… You have plenty of disposable income.

    Great breakdown & demo, Austin...I'm not a big fan of flying Vs so forgive me...Definitely an ultra, heavy-aged axe. IMO, the edges are worn too much. This would be a guitar that the owner gave ZERO care: never cleaned it, stepped on it, did Jimi Hendrix/SRV 'floor routines' when they played 'Third Stone from the Sun'...I agree this is only worth about 10 grand due to not staying in tune.

    Yeah, I'm not into relic guitars unless I'm the one doing it to the guitar. Why pay that much money for something that looks like shit. I have 23 years old and 19 years old guitars I owned since day one not in this bad of shape. That's just me. I guess I feel that way because I learned ona piece of shit while everyone around me had nice guitars. By the time I was able to save up and get a real nice guitar, I didn't want something that looked old like someone tossed it in a garbage can. But to each their own I guess.

    I personally find the concept interesting. It looks like what someone would make in the post apocalypse. Like imagine the world ended just before the invention of the floating tremolo bridge system or the Floyd rose bridge, and a wasteland bard wanted a trem on a V guitar. This is what I’d imagine.
    Although I’d rather make something like that myself than pay 55K for it

    Hi trogly…
    Great guitar…
    I’ve noticed your having trouble with tuning on this one , it’s the nut is sticking
    Pretty sure .
    Radio shack has what’s called synthetic lube
    One drop on the slot of each string will allow the strings to slide properly over the nut stop friction from sticking and allow the guitar to stay in tune for a while usually it will last the life of the string 2/3 months…try it you’ll like it lis worked for me gigging for many years
    I use it in app my guitars 🎸
    Peace bro great show lone time fan ….

    Honestly the ageing on all of these looks terrible. Not at all like genuine time-and-wear ageing would look. I doubt there's an original V on the planet that even has that much age related wear and tear on it. It's just so totally overdone. It looks like someone dragged it behind his vehicle when he went off-roading in a plowed corn field.
