    I think Maynard couldn't have picked a better person to sing with than Round. Her voice is so perfect with his. I'm always astounded at them together live.

  • @jambulance
    @jambulance 3 ปีที่แล้ว +95

    Fun fact! Not sure if anyone mentioned this already but the reason why Maynard was using a lot more lower register singing on this and most of the rest of the “V” Is For Vagina album is because he recorded a lot of it in hotel rooms whilst on tour (I believe with APC?), so he didn’t want to make too much noise. It ended up really working well for the vibe of the album but it explains why the rest of their discography has a dramatic shift in style and vocals.

    When Maynard started A Perfect Circle in the late 90's a lot of fans and musicians were confused. They thought Tool broke up. Since then I think he inspired a lot of musicians that it's ok to have more than one band. To do multiple projects. Back then no one else was doing that.

    heya, geebz. this is my favorite of maynard's projects. i love the way you hear the music, and so, if you'd like to hear more puscifer, you should listen to "the humbling river". there is sssoooooo much that happenes, and sooooo many things that'll make you go, "wha-?" one of my favorite musical pieces, ever. anyway, i hope you get to listen, and i hope you enjoy it. welcome, back, man. :)

  • @footnotedrummer
    @footnotedrummer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As far as his voice... the low notes he's generating are from what's called the proximity effect. As Geebz mentions, you use very little air and get very close to a very sensitive mic. It's used fantastically on this tune. Amazing! Also... I've never seen this video, but the bottle of wine that he drops is a wine that his vineyard produced "Caduceus", and the soil that the grapes were grown in contained his late mother's ashes. He did this because his mom was wheelchair bound or bed ridden for so many years, that she never got to see the world. Her ashes went into the grape vines to transport her wherever the wine went around the world. Maynard is a pretty cool cat.

    I'm so glad you did this song. I don't know why but this first Puscifer album seems to get passed over by a lot of people for some reason. It's one of the most unique albums I've ever heard and Maynard has never done anything else quite like it. All of the other Puscifer albums are good but I'll be forever disappointed that he moved away from this real chilled out sound and singing in that deep baritone. It's honestly my favourite album out of all of Maynard's bands/projects.
    I know everyone here's going to be recommending stuff from other Puscifer albums and they're definitely worth checking out but I have to recommend Queen B from this album.

    Just discovered you last night, brother! Been really enjoying your analysis on these songs. You are able to put into words what I 'feel' from a song and it is an absolute joy to listen along with you.
    Also, don't worry about talking too much I, and many others, appreciate the depth of knowledge you bring. Thank you for making some really fun evenings ^_^

    the bottle of wine he drops is from caduceus cellars which maynard owns and has a big hand in running, along with merkin vinyards. they are excellent wines made in jerome, arizona.

    As I listen to this I just found out my favorite uncle who helped raise me has passed away. This song here and now sort of feels like the universe's way of telling me something. I'm glad I'm listening to someone who comforts me though.(Maynard and Geebz) Cheers Geebz.

    I remember listening to the remix from V. It was in the videogame Need for Speed Undercover back in 2007. I loved it and years later when I got into Tool, A Perfect Circle and eventually Puscifer, I found the track and it blew my mind I went full circle back to it.

    You don't talk too much. I can't speak for others, but believe most of us here really enjoy hearing what you have to say, coupled w your outstanding personality!
    You could never do too much Tool, Puscifer or APC..and there's also so many other super artists/bands out there. I look forward to hearing and seeing your reactions when time permits, it's a never a dull moment!
    Additionally, it's a wonderful thing you do for the kids..third eye purple level, in that sense..you're a great person, Geebz!! 😊 👁️ 💜
    You have a great weekend, too!

    Thanks for all the love and attention you've been giving to all these veins of alternative music. Every time I see a video you post, I manage to have some knowledge of that artist(s) and love hearing your opinions on them. Hopefully you're getting something out of it too and some of these earworms manage to dig their way in and make a fan of you. Love what you do!
    If I had one recommendation, I would want to see your breakdown of Cloudlight by Eskmo. He's an electronic artist who deals a lot with manipulated field recordings to produce his beats. He's certainly unique in his sound and I struggle to find artists similar to him.

    Nice to see you working your way into the Puscifer catalog Geebz. This isn't my favorite track by Maynard, but I do hope you'll keep digging as there is a ton of great music here. Autumn, Polar Bear, Dear Brother, Horizons, and Monsoons all hit a little deeper for me, but glad to see Puscifer get some exposure. They catch a lot of flak from the Tool army, which to me makes absolutely no sense. You might also like The Mission with Mila Jovovich, yes that (Lilu Dallas multipass) Mila Jovovich. Maynard calls Puscifer a direct link to his subconscious, and much of it reeks of Arizona and the desert. Thanks for posting and enjoy your journey!

    💛💚💙Another awesome band with a soul!!!💜❤🧡
    Band: Shinedown
    1st song: How Did You Love (release 2015)
    2nd song: Monsters (release 2019)
    A little FYI:
    "How Did You Love is about understanding and respecting your own mortality. Not in a morbid, negative way, but in a way that inspires you to live each day to its fullest and without regret, especially when it comes to your relationships and your individuality. You need to be at peace and proud when you look back and ask yourself, 'how did you love?'" -Brent Smith
    "Everyone who knows a bit of my background with regard to substance abuse and alcoholism knows that I've battled with it. It's something I deal with on a daily basis. I've always been very honest about it, which is that I didn't do drugs today - and I didn't drink today - but I don't know what I'll do tomorrow, because I literally have to take it day by day. I never went to rehab, I didn't do a 12-step programme, and I don't talk about sobriety unless I'm asked about it. Even then, I don't spend much time on it because I literally live my life day by day. That's how I have to do it, but the dynamic in the song is not just about substance abuse. It's about a lot of different situations that people get put in because they have things in their mind that - for whatever reason - they used to sabotage themselves. They don't know why they do it, but they do it, and these are the monsters that I'm talking about: those voices that say, 'I know this is going to be really fucked up after it's over with, but let's do it anyway.' That's the sentiment in the song, when I sing that 'my monsters are real and they're trained to kill.'" -Brent Smith

    They way you arrange your sentences and arguments is pure ear candy. It's clear as a day that you know what you're talking about. Keep up the good work ! I have a suggestion for your next listen: Diablo - Tristram. It is music from a videogame called Diablo, composed by Matt Uelman. 7 minute journey that blows away, it's got tons of intruments and I think you would enjoy it very much, especially engineering wise. I'd love to hear your comments on that one. Greetings from Croatia !
