Killer Video! Love how you present your tutorials in the fact that your way isn't 'THE ONLY or BEST' way to do things. It's what works for you which I love and is explained in its simplest form for people who are just starting out. Much Love :)
firm believer that are "better" ways to do something than others, but no one out there has the "best" way. Its all opinion, and at the end of the day, regardless if someones method is technically "better", we will always end up doing what we believe to be best. Hope this helped you. thanks for watching.
It’s just a bar letting you know that that section of the footage is not pre rendered, therefore it is not encoded or ready to be played back smoothly. At least, that’s my take on it. Just hit the enter or return key and wait for the pre-render to finish
@@gabzito240p stoked to hear it brother. I’m sending you an email, stay in touch. Thanks for watching the video but this one is super outdated and in my opinion bad lol. There is a new one a couple weeks back that I think would be better
This is because the duplicate affects the bottom layer. If you turn off the bottom layer, you’ll see what the top layer looks like it you just threw the effects on the clip (it should be blurry and washed out)
Are you changing the blend mode to the adjustment layer or the original clip? Make sure you’re only doing it it the adjustment layer that contains the channel blur effect by itself
bro such a great video! i love how you perfectly and simply explained all the different aspects about what each effect does especially in the luma key section. keep it up man
Yo! Super helpful video. I created a preset a few months ago and recently noticed it was gone (and actually the whole obsolete folder was gone). I found another video that someone made who exported the obsolete effects for people to import, and was able to get the Obsolete effects back to recreate the preset. I think it happened in PP 24.6.
Honestly not much of one. Haha. Went through some big life change recently (if you see my old videos the location is wildly different😂) Just got a iMac (2021 M1), 14 and 8 TB Hard Drive along with 2 Lacie ruggeds for travel. Then I shoot on a canon r6 with a 15-30mm. I also use the DJI action microphones or whatever they’re called
haha thanks, I personally have to say i'm not a big fan of it! I work with what I have, and im lucky to have this camera, but I would prefer a different camera, maybe a BMPCC 6k when I can afford it
It could be the codec you filmed it, but it could be your premiere pro preferences, go to premiere in the top left of the screen, and hit preferences then go to memory to see what memory you allow premiere to access. If not that, watch your work back at 1/4 or 1/8 resolution. That should do it. And if that really doesn’t help, proxy your footage first.
I liked this tutorial alot but I like adjjustment layers better than layering duplicate clips. theres many clips in my project so using this method i'd have to duplicate all of them and add those effects to the top ones. Im trying it with a second adjustment layer now but it doesn't work haha it just makes everything dark. How would you approach this?
My advice is clean up your timeline and use subsequences when possible to make it simpler. But it’s done n a duplicate and not an adjustment because the luma key needs to grab info from the clip itself. So it has to be done this way from the knowledge I can share.
Thanks Bro!! Great video, just a question, How can I substitute the Color board effect? It's not anymore in Premiere :( thanks for the help!! Greetings from Rome!
short question is the first layer video colour graded. if yes than the copy of that video is also colour graded so we add this effect to already colour graded video right??
Yes. But because the effect that you apply to this new layer only selects the luminosity of the image, you need that image, or that way, to still be there with the effects applied white the color grade. otherwise you would have a video clip with just the luminosity selected. You can test this out and see what I mean by turning off the bottom layer, and then what would be left of your footage after the Luma key is applied.
Hey i'm working on a night shot with lots of street lamps visible in the distance, i've noticed that the channel blur adjustment layer removes the bloom effect almost completely (even without the red channel being altered, the effect itself removes the majority of the bloom. In your video when you turned your halation adjustment layer back one there wasn't any visible difference to your bloom that i noticed, wondering if you know why this is?
If I had to guess, you might have your blending mode wrong-- maybe you hit multiply or something... not sure. but channel blur set to red on an adjustment layer, and bloom effects *(Luma key and gaussian blur) below that, but duplicated from the original clip on top of the original. make sure the blend mode there is set to normal
Color grading is not the same as a video effect we add like halation. It’s not necessary but it helps to stylize your footage to match the bloom and halated look
Everytime I add the red channel blur, my playback just completely freezes, and refuses to load, is there anything I can do about that? Thanks for the banger video!
I would look up how to get the best performance settings on your specific computer. And then in your editor, make your playback quality as low as you can go. You can also try proxy-ing the footage. Which should help make things run smoother. But the actual effects take a lot of processing power.
I had the same problem, I have a high end desktop but it kept freezing if I edit channels. Instead I went and edited RGB curves, took all the curves to dark except for Red and selected Lighten blend mode. Worked very well, previews are smooth as butter
the problem, even with an m1 macbook pro is, that with the adjustment layer channel blur, it renders 1-2 hours for 1-2min video with audio. any solutions ? or another way to apply channel blur without adjustment layer maybe?
eh, I have the same issue but I just let it do its thing. it is a pain but the effects require a different kind of encoding, so it will always take longer
yes. i informed myself now and every forum says the same.. so i gotta feel the pain.. anyways, love ur channel & videos ! best content so far about premiere @@Trentorials
Thank you for saying that. Wild to hear it labeled as the ‘best’- huge compliment to me but wild to think that is true. Just tryna share what I learn as I learn it! Thank you for your support
the encoding for render, which contains a luma key on every frame.... usually changes from my knowledge from hardware to software encoding... which is brutal.
Is there a reason to separate the halation to an adjustment layer and bloom to another layer instead of just adding both halation and bloom into the same adjustment layer?
In my experience, I find that it makes the bloom look weirder than if I put it on an adjustment layer. But I recommend you try out your own variations of this, since nothing has ever once I fits all. Let me know if you do that and how it works out for you.
This method is outdated in the new update; though the new update is lengthier in process the color selection part is there which means you can make it more orange. I have a recent video with this change
I find duplicating the effect lets the luma key do what it does best. Which would be masking out the alpha channel (whites) and selecting only those. If it was on an adjustment layer, it would not be able to select the same way. Thus needing to duplicate.
definitely normal. different. much more extensive encoding. pain in the ass, I know, but sacrifices have to be made haha. it does it to my computer too
When doing this exactly how you do, It makes rendering the effects take HOURS. Not sure how you got around this. This is on a built editing pc and never have this issue until trying this method you highlighted. Anyone else getting this issue?
Yeah that’s premiere pros encoding method… takes an astonishing amount of time. Have a video supposed to come out tomorrow morning and I’m still waiting on an export…
There's another way that's DRAMATICALLY faster and does a pretty good approximation of hallation. Add adjust layer. Go to Curves and pull the green and blue lines completely down so only red remains. Set blend mode to Lighten and dial the opacity to taste. Zero render time since it's just messing with curves and opacity. If you need more hallation than this gives you, you're probably using too much hallation. It's supposed to be subtle.
On that topic, I used to add the bloom effect just straight onto the clip with just gaussian blur, however since you put me onto the luma key , the bloom just looks so much better. Thanks bro!!
The Gaussian blur gives the blur, of course. But the Luma key acts as a mask for only the highlights (that’s what the cutoff and threshold are about) glad it helped

do you find that adding an adjustment layer delays the clip (like adding a glitch)?
It doesn’t delay it in terms of time, it does make the computer slower since the encoding time increases
do you think once I export it wouldn't look as glitchy as it does now?
