The DMZ A Must See On A South Korea Tour

  • Today we tour Seoul South Korea and tour the DMZ, that is the DeMilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North Korea and South Korea. This area is technically still a war zone, as the 2 countries have never agreed to a peace agreement, only a cease fire. The DMZ is now the line between the 2 countries and you can tour this area. The DMZ tour was extremely fascinating and sobering, as we could overlook North Korea soldiers and crawl through a tunnel with meters of North Korea.

    I've been waiting and hoping for this video! My dad was stationed in Seoul and had guard duty along the DMZ in 1962-63 shortly before I was born. I have a couple of his pictures from Korea and have always been fascinated by them. I'm going to have to show him your video. Thanks for ALL of your informative and fun video travelogues of your UWC. I, like so many, love to travel and truly appreciate being able to join you vicariously.

    Thank you for taking the time to do these wonderful videos. You are definitely enjoying this experience. In 1985 my boyfriend(now husband) drove through no-mans land through East Germany into West Berlin. We were young and adventurous and crossed through check point Charlie into East Berlin with a 12 hour pass West Berlin at that time was a beacon of wealth Where as east Berlin was full of buildings with bullet holes. No tour available. Upon our return we found out 2 weeks prior a person attempting escape was shot dead by eastern guards. Experiences like this stay with you for life and reminds us of the horror of war. Freedom is a privilege
    Looking forward to more of your adventures

    Hi. I appreciated your video of the DMZ. I taught English as a Second Language there for a year in 94/95. It's amazing how much it has changed. I did go to the DMZ with the USO and was able to step into North Korea in the conference room. They had the same flag competition go on inside the conference room as outside. Your Korean videos are bringing my memories back. Thank you for sharing.

    Fascinating video. My husband, like Mike, would've gone into the tunnel but like Nancy, I wouldn't! Were either one of you nervous being at the DMZ? For your consideration, would you consider a video or addressing your criteria for cruise sponsored vs non cruise sponsored tours (I'd be afraid we'd book a tour on our own and then miss the ship!) and also trip insurance (did you use the same company for this cruise as you would a 7 night cruise?). Thank you for all of your videos, I look forward to all of them! --Susan

      @livingphase2  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks a lot for the Great comment, and the great suggestion. We'll put it on the list to discuss those options of crew sponsored versus third party tours. If you watch most of our videos You'll see most of our tours are third party tours and we've had really good luck with them, except for one which you'll see in our upcoming Luanda Angola video. 😳

    So interesting an opportunity with the DMZ. As you were explaining the playground next door to an area of mourning, it reminded me of visiting Knock IRE and all the tents of people selling relics, a car raffle going on amongst these devout praying people. Still can't explain my thoughts about it

    I couldn't have done the tunnel walk. 11% grade is steep. The ones I've seen marked on roads are usually 8 or 9%. It's the being stooped over for the walk. It would be days until I could stand straight again.

Also, what are the most helpful items, clothing, etc, that you have used on most of the cruise? I should have taken notes. Please and thank you.

    • @livingphase2
      @livingphase2  หลายเดือนก่อน

      For apps, our biggest have been Google Translate and Google Maps. We also like to look at CruiseMapper to see where our cruise ship is. As for helpful items, the magnetic shelves and hooks are extremely valuable and our travel clothes wash and wear beautifully have been our go to clothing.
