      I thought it just did! This channel if that's what it's called is actually wonderful. I was a bit put off at finding out that murdering each other was the best answer my ancestors cared to come up with. but we can't go back and change that.

    I discovered your channel some time ago and have found it most entertaining. I am one of those Yanks of Scottish descent, but one that goes back a looooong time.
    Anyhow, that is not the important thing. I had thought of an idea for another t-shirt. Ok the front is would say: “In the meantime,” then on the back: “let me tell you a story… “ And there could be a logo or your picture or a caricature. I’d buy that for sure.
    So, I truly enjoy your vids as they are both informative with just the right amount of “sly wink” to prevent it from becoming too dry. Well done, sir.

    OK - So here is a tangled puzzle for ye: my name is Eman Dejnozka, Bohemian, Moravian, Wallachian blood on my paternal side, but more to your interest, Reynolds on my maternal side. It is to my understanding that the MacReynold survivors of a bloody battle where Edward, the Long Dong played Herod after his victory upon the survivors and butchered all the children of the Scots and stole Leah Fael, the 320 pound sandstone block that Jacob used as a pillow and my family are sworn by blood and life to protect. (It may interest you that my best living friend, Gavin Douglas, a direct paternal lineage holder of the mighty Douglas Clan, claims that Long Dong only stole the cover to a midden and Leah Fael was hidden beneath the floor in Scone Abby.) Anyway, I named my eldest daughter, Rhonda Leah Fael Dejnozka, to honor the Stone of Destiny which gives vision of the future to any who would touch her. My mother’s ancestors fled Scotland for America changing their name to “Reynolds” and made whisky to fuel the American Revolution.
    Gavin tells me the Douglas and MacReynold clans were allied in battle way back then.

    Always interesting to hear stories about relatives (2nd cousin 18 times removed). Can't say we came out of that mess in much better condition, what with my 16th and 15th great-grandfathers both being hanged in the aftermath, but my 14th GGF, Alexander, got away so at least the line didn't end there and then. That does seem to be the point where MacDonnell became the accepted spelling, though (at least until coming to America in the early 18th century, when the current spelling became generally accepted). Only the first John of the Isles is a direct ancestor, as we come from John Mor, who may have wanted the title, but didn't inherit it, becoming 1st of Dunnyveg instead. We seemed to have a habit of being the brother of the one who gets the cool title, though we did keep Dunnyveg for a while and two generations of a three-generation baronetcy. Even there, the first baronet was a younger sibling, while his older brother got to be 1st Earl of Antrim. Genealogy is fun, but frustrating, particular when you get back 20 or more generation and realise that even if you've found the direct paternal line, there are still a few million more grandparents you haven't found, or however many hundreds or thousands were the same person in all the collateral lines.

      I don't have my notes handy, but your ancestors names are ringing all kinds of similar bells to mine. (Dunnyveg definitely does) My Revolutionary war era McDonald ancestor spelled his name McDaniel and as I recall the name morphed several times along the way back to the Lord of the Isles. I also have an ancestor "hanged for high treason" and I've wondered about the politics around that. Maybe the same one?

    • @TheJTMcDaniel
      @TheJTMcDaniel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lyno5211 Always possible. The hanged ones in my direct line were both called Sean Mac Domhnaill (or John MacDonnell), father and son (and two other brothers) went to the gallows in 1499, having annoyed James IV. The moral of that story being, I suppose, don't annoy your cousins too much, particularly if one of them happens to be King of Scots. Their brother Alexander was the one who escaped to Ireland and became 5th of Dunnyveg. Dunnyveg hasn't had a chief since the 17th century, and consequently has never had an official tartan. The title of Lord of the Isles is currently one of those associated with the heir to the throne, so it's currently held by Prince Charles (who, being descended from Robert II, is also a very distant cousin).

    I hear many of the same names recurring in ever more complex scenarios and up to all kinds of tricks
    I heard the name Bothwell in there . There was guy of that name who somehow managed to mess up the Mary Queen of Scots thing and then get his dried corpse (kippered?) put on show in Denmark.

    Bruce, I'm confused if that's a suprise.
    If the Highlanders keep raiding the people in the lowlands, that makes them enemies does it not? They don't even speak the same language. Yet it's all contained in the UK satellite called Scotland. So that being the case I'm from the Country called Earth.
    I'm sorry. but this is totally confusing.

      @@ScotlandHistoryTours I rooted it out. From what I found it was a place where a family(clan) had a home be it a manor etc. that was where they stayed. At least that’s what I got from it. For example the seat of clan Sutherland is Dunrobin Castle. A principle place of residence. I got an image in my head of a small residence with 100’s of clan members hangin out there ya know on the porch ,out the windows, lol.
