I would some day like to build a home that will also collect rain water for household use. So far I have learned that metal roofing is the best option for rainwater collection but this plastic and sand tiled roof looks like the superior option not to mention being more aesthetically pleasing. I hope this roofing option is available in the states.
this is the right approach for the African countries to make hundreds of factories like this create jobs and cheap construction materials and helps the environment yes the right approach for Africa
Instead of sand just use ground up waste glass. Filter it through a screen to keep the grain size small. If sharp points become an issue use a knock down scraper as a last step.
Fantastic use for waste plastic. My only concern is the need to use precious river sand. How long before all the rivers are dredged for their sand? Surely there is an alternative, like using the Sahara desert for instance?
I think this is great how can we do this in more places around the world I’m sure we have ways of making this environmentally safe for working with the materials as well as marketable
is there any details on the machine in use and material need it. I will like to have some ifo if possible, I will like to start making this in south america
How do I get this done to my home in Arizona? I need a new roof for my 1950’s home as well as the separated addition in the back. I am an avid environmental enthusiast and just saw this and want this for my home.
And the sand is silicone: crash old glass bottles (using glass crashing machine, see youtube for examples and prices) and you get perfect sand for your tiles!
2 Questions : 1- How much durable it is? 2: If this tiles are used in hot weather how long they will survive in 40-50 Degree Centigrades, 3: What if there is FIRE in house, will it burn highly or slowly?
We are a Machinery and Technology Supply Company based in Cape Town,South Africa that supplied this machinery and technology. Having been involved in the Recycling Industry for over 30 years, we identified a need for the recycling of mixed post consumer plastic waste. After many years of research and equipment design, sustainable products have been developed. Through the blending of post consumer waste plastic with sand and applying heat and pressure, a range of viable products are manufactured. These products include: • Roof tiles • Manhole covers • Paving slabs • Cobbles • Railway sleepers • Retaining blocks In 2012, the Department of Human Settlements in South Africa acknowledged the Roof Tile Product and it was awarded a Prestigious Gold Medal for the best alternative building product. In addition to this, we achieved the Best-Recycled Product Award for 2012 from SAPRO (The South African Plastic Recyclers Organization). Not only are the products lighter in comparison to conventional products, but they are also harder wearing and far more durable. The advantages of this product are endless. A few notable advantages include: Reduced weight (ensuring lower transport costs). Fewer breakages (less than 1%, as the products are not as fragile as conventional products which can have upto 10% breakages). Greater impact resistance (this can be attributed to the plastic element of the product). The product is non-porous (eliminating the risk of water absorption and fungus growth on tiles, blocks etc). Fully recyclable after use. Hailstone Proof. In addition to this. Creation of employment for the local Community. A more sustainable product that can be used in Building Projects. We have three of these plants operating in South Africa, this one in Uganda and we are currently negotiating with Nigeria, Ghana, Seychelles, Reunion, Namibia and the Maldives. We supply a full turn-key solution and hand over a fully operational plant to our customers. In addition to this, back-up is supplied in terms of spare parts and technical know-how, as well as training for key personnel and staff. Furthermore, we will assist in the design of new products to the client's specifications and implementation thereof. All of this enables us to ensure customer satisfaction at all times. . +Philip I'm wondering what the chemicals are that run off into a rainwater tank. That worries me. But I do see this as a great way to extrude guttering, wall/fence panels, faux bricks, and many more products.
Can someone tells me how to get in contact with this company; We have a great pollution problem in Haiti, and I think their concept will be ideal for my country.
The company's email is info@resintileea.com. Drop an email to the factory manager, Mr. Namakajjo William or call him on Tel. No.+256 702 620 277 (Uganda)
Good day, I'm currently looking recycling machine that can make building material like that, may you please assist with information. I'm based in Gauteng. vincent.mulaudzi@gmail.com or Whatsapp: 0792727978
+shamir khan It would be custom manufactured industrial machines, basically you aren't going to buy one, you'll probably have to make it yourself from scratch. not completely impossible, you can make a press out of a car jack, there are multiple ways to shred or powder plastics, but the pasting machine that heats, mixes, and extrudes like this will be the main real challenge to rig up.
Good Idea.
Very well for African Industry.
Greetings from Costa Rica.

Good one

Wow, something gorgeous and important from recycled plastics! I hope Africa takes the lead in this resource!

Wolf THE GREAT Alpha
Congratulations for your job
and they can expand into guttering to channel rainwater to water butts for example or just to a corner of the building.
Instead of sand just use ground up waste glass. Filter it through a screen to keep the grain size small. If sharp points become an issue use a knock down scraper as a last step.
This is the way to go in the struggle to conserve the environment for the later generation.
Felicitaciones buena iniciativa gracias Florence

Where can I buy that machine please?
Good initiative....
Has there been any studies done on the possibility of chemicals in the plastic leaching into our soil with use of these tiles?
PIP PIP nice question, clean and green.
+Philip Not any worse than your plastic sewer pipes - acrylic-butene-styrene and poly-vinyl-chloride. Pretty safe.
+Kevin Keel I'm not sure where you come from, but here where we are, we don't drink or wash from our sewer pipes.
+Philip I'm wondering what the chemicals are that run off into a rainwater tank. That worries me. But I do see this as a great way to extrude guttering, wall/fence panels, faux bricks, and many more products.
chuggles03 hah - no, the point is that the plastic sewer pipes don't leach chemicals into the ground.
