Truth! Everyone was listening to Grand Funk when I was in H.S. Still have Grand Funk albums, including the silver coin vinyl record…..E Pluribus Funk❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Great reaction !! Love you guys and how much you are enjoying GFRR !! In their day, they ROCKED !! GFR Always gave it 110% and Left their hearts on the stage. They closed each show with this song. Mark's guitar was an Eastwood Messenger that fed-back terribly so he covered the f-holes with tape. It came with like a "boost" gain switch, which was kinda ahead of it's time. They had a RABID Fan base (mostly "Chicks"). When they opened a show for someone, they always "Up-Staged" the main act, even Led Zep (Half the crowd left when Led Zep came on.)!! Led Zep never let them open for them ever again !! When they opened for Rod Stewart and the Faces, the crowd Boo'ed Rod Stewart off the stage !! When promoters finally realized just how popular they were, GFR became the "Main Act". GFR became known as the originators of "Stadium Rock". They filled stadiums across the USA and Europe and sold out Shea Stadium in New York, in 72-hours !! The Beatles took 3-weeks to sell-out Shea !! I saw them twice in 1971 and they were AWESOME !! That year, at Pirates World in Dania, Fl. the Promoters sold 15,000 tickets for a outdoor venue, that only held 10,000 and the people who couldn't get in rioted and over-turned 3 City of Miami police cars !! If their manager (a friend) hadn't taken every penny and all their rights, even the guitars and Amps !! He left them NOTHING, or they would have been the biggest Band EVER !! Their leader and front man Mark Farner is still rock'in today, after decades of legal battles to finally, get the "rights" back enough to play GFR songs again !! GFR is the best thing to ever come out of Flint, Michigan (except maybe the GM Buick). There is NO GFR without Mark Farner !! WAKE UP R&R Hall of Fame !! It is criminal GFR is not in the HOF !!
My older brother took me to see them at Cobo Hall in Detroit back in April 1971.. just before I left for Vietnam.. a band named Bloodrock opened for them .. great performance
Learning to play guitar comes in stages....first you learn some basic chords, then you learn to put some chords together, then you learn to get a little funky and add your own flair.....and then for the elite few, you become a master so that the guitar becomes part of you, and your thoughts and emotions become expressed through those guitar strings.....Mark Farner is a clear example of a master guitar player!
English bands of the time trended towards heavy metal type stuff, where American bands tended towards the funk/blues sound. ZZ Top, James Gang, Steve Miller Band, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd.
They should be but the RnR Hall of Fame has become a joke.. Cher was inducted in 2024 proving me right 🙄 while Soundgarden, Iron Maiden & the Smiths haven't. (I've never been a fan of the Smiths music.. but can't really put my finger on the reason why).. Sorry for my little rant...too much espresso. lol ☕☕☕☕☕ Happy New Year Cheers!
This was live performance was being filmed in a TV studio for nationwide broadcast on PBS. There are pretty much only production staff in the studeo. That is why there are only a few people clapping afterwards
The level of energy they put out was typical at their shows. I saw them six times between 1969-74 and they always were incredible, and they would keep that level of intensity going for 3 hours or longer.
Well hey...I just subscribed. It's nice to see yall discover Grand Funk Railroad! I was in my 20's back then. You could see a band in concert for $20 "Were An American Band" and "Heartbreaker" are great live. If you do "I'm Your Captain," I recommend the studio version
Young Fellas, I had all their music back then. They were hot hot in the 70s.... I don't know of anybody that didn't like them then. They were off the chain. Raw Talent!!! I still listen to it. It never died off.💯💯💯...... Legends!✌️👍
SO GLAD YOU GUYS SAW THIS VIDEO… THERE ARE TWO OTHER VIDEOS OF THIS CALIBER. ONE I MENTIONED BEFORE…. BLACK SABBATH, WAR PIGS, LIVE IN PARIS 1970 N SANTANA, SOUL SACRIFICE, LIVE AT WOODSTOCK, LONG VERSION. ROCK ON 👊🖖
Another 3 man group you need to check out is Band of Gypsys; Jimi, Buddy, and Billy. Live at the Filmore. One of the great performances of all time. You must listen to Machine Gun.
I hope you react to more GFR. The 1st time I saw Grand Funk was 1971 at The Forum, awesome performance. We never heard of the opening act though, early 71, it was Black Sabbath.
Still one of my favorite bands. You definitely need to check out more of their music. Lots of great American bands to give a listen to. A great 3 piece band for y'all would be ZZ Top. I suggest their songs Waiting for the Bus/ Jesus Just Left Chicago, back to back. That's the only way to listen to those two.
You gentlemen like you some Grand Funk Railroad? Live?? Then listen to this: i.e., “Heartbreaker” (🔥) th-cam.com/video/21_yRb7qYNE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hQ1it1_KLlb7QrsQ

GFR outsold the Beatles in ticket sales at Shea Stadium in ‘71. They became a four piece band eventually hiring Craig Frost on keyboards. They still aren’t in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 🤨
In 71 you had to get your tickets at box office widow just like in 64 before ticket master and stuff they have now. Grand Funk Railroad tickets sold out real fast because you know they would put on a great show!
I turned 17 years old in the year 1974 and THAT'S when I got my driver's license!! In the couple of years before THAT I was hanging out with a crew that had a couple of musicians and they had what you might call a "garage band"!! This was one of the songs that they liked to do and because of THAT I wound up purchasing Grand Funk LIVE!! It was a two record set AND I believe it was ALSO two cassette tapes if I'm not mistaken!! BUT anyway THAT sucker was on repeat for me for MANY years!! The reason I mentioned driver's license is because I drove around and played THAT on a cassette deck in my car, NON-STOP!!😮 Check out the Grand Funk railroad live album from I believe 1969 it was recorded, and I believe it was during a set of concerts in Jacksonville Florida!! Anyway one of the best live performances you will EVER hear!!!❤
They were a great band , and you can find several of their live shows in TH-cam- their performances will blow you away with how energetic and entertaining they were - they were masters of LIVE shows . The sad reality is their story of how their career went is the classic case of the Rock n Roll facade - their manager destroyed them , eventually. He bankrupted them into breaking up and destroying their friendship and brotherhood. All 3 members are still alive but hardly speak anymore.
In 1971 Grand Funk Railroad sold out New York’s Shea Stadium in 72 hours setting a record. The Beatles were the only other band to sell out Shea Stadium and they did it in 1965 and 1966, but it took over two weeks. Grand Funk Railroad’s record will stand forever as Shea Stadium was demolished between October 14, 2008 and February 18, 2009 with their record never being broken.

I saw them during this tour. Loudest show up to that point. I was almost deaf for two days afterwards. They were huge, huge, huge and sold out stadiums in record time.
You guys need to listen to some of their hits. Some were covers like Some Kind of Wonderful, but some were original like Footstompin Music, Mean Mistreater, and Heartbreaker. Their biggest hit was I Am Your Captain/Closer to Home. Many Vietnam Vets took this to heart as their tours got closer to ending in Vietnam. There are a few songs recorded live from one or two shows as their manger did not allow film recording of their concerts. There were no portable video cameras back then.
One of my favourite live performances , check out black Sabbath war pigs live in Paris 1970 that's another brilliant live performance if only to see the great Bill Ward on the drums 👍
I can rest easy now that you have been exposed to the GFR... they were one of the greatest bands to see live which I did TWICE back in the day and they absolutely rocked the shit out of both places they played.... the best band to rock out to from the States...

I love this!! And GFR!!! Play them the song they probably heard first, like We're An American Band or Some Kind Of Wonderful? They might like it better, for now? Then they can appreciate the good ones!!!
If you like trios, you should try the best trio out there right now. The Warning is a trio of sisters from Mexico who just celebrated being a band for 11 years a couple of months ago, and the oldest is only 24! They are a throwback to old school rock and roll, and their superpower is playing live. I would suggest starting with the song Evolve from MTV music awards or Disciple from the Pepsi Center. That's how to start a life. Damn they're amazing.
One of the BEST live performances ever ! LOVE the bass lines.

This was live with no digital trickery. One of my favorite bands from the late 60's-early 70's. Mark, Don and Mel!
Yep, pre auto tune.
All I can say is you 2 fellas are in for a treat. GFR ruled American air waves back in the late 60’s and early 70’s
Say whaaat???? Nope.
These boys ruled the world, or at least a big part of it, in the early 70’s.
YEP! They were even more Groovy seeing them in Person.😊✌

THESE GUYS WERE THE DEFINITION OF A POWER TRIO!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
They should definitely be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame ...they are way better than many already on it . Crying shame.
Hall of Fame shame!

COBO was the best place to see a concert. I saw many concerts there. Detroit Rock City.
Y’all need to check “Tobacco Road” by Edgar and Johnny winter. The live version. Some of the best blues/rock musicians to come from America
The Funkiest band in the land. My boys from Michigan!

That is such a good way to put it! He is IN that guitar. Love it
The band Humble Pie - Black coffee is amazing as well. Lots of talent back in the day!

Looking forward to this one for sure
Other Grand Funk tunes you'll enjoy: "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home," "Some Kind of Wonderful," "We're an American Band," and "The Loco-Motion."
They needed to check those drums into a shelter. Epic.
