    I have the same exact problem in my upstairs hallway and one of the bedrooms...Going to trying this method (Seems like they did a shitty job at taping when the house was built - all around) - Thank you sir..

    Do you let the dry wall tape dry before you apply first seal of mud or do you apply while tape is still damp.

    how do you fix the texturing of the wall/ceiling when you do this so it doesn't stick out like oops this was damage and is now fixed?

    • @TheDaveDryden
      @TheDaveDryden หลายเดือนก่อน

      You fill crack with mud, and then caulk over the mud. Then you don't have this issue of texture match

    • @LBizKid04

      Yeah, you will just have the crack show back up quicker though @@TheDaveDryden

  • @Danthemanfromny

    Yeah! Thats a good one. You communicate more wordlessly. I do have a stupid question. Why not caulk. I have a lot of the same looking gaps but next to windows, same thing? Can I use mesh tape instead?

    • @Aspire198
      @Aspire198 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I imagine it's because the caulk will peel from the plaster

    • @samershammers
      @samershammers  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      you can use the caulk if you have a small crack between the drywall and diferent materials (around the windows or doors) but between the wall and ceiling you have to do same way using tape with drywall mud, if you don't use drywall tape will crack again after few days, (the wall and ceiling will shake when we walk or lien on it .
      if you use this way it will get fixed permanently

    Amateur Question : Don't you need to prime the fresh drywall mud before painting, otherwise it will suck the moisture from the paint, which will then flake off ?

    • @brandonbdl
      @brandonbdl 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      No , if you use decent paint it doesn't NEED to be primed. However paint doesn't seal the wall as well as primer, 1 coat of primer and 1 coat of paint will look better, and feel better then 2 or 3 coats of only paint.

    • @samershammers

      if you don't soak the tape then the dry tape will suck the the humidity from the mud, after a while the mud will not be strong it will be kind of like powder, (mud ,concrete ..., it is better to let it dry normally it won't be strong ) thanks for watching

      First thank you for watching, The caulk never fix the problem, the crack will happen again (vibration) when walk or lean against the wall, do you know all the wall in your home has this joint tape without this tape you will see the cracks in every joint. About the ceiling texture issue if you take a look at the ceiling at your home you will see a gap between the ceiling texture and the wall. its enough to put the tape on it.

    • @loreec90
      @loreec90 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You did not put in screws , you aren’t going to stop movement with mud and tape. Caulking is flexible and if that doesn’t work, check the foundation you may have bigger problems. You don’t need to soak the tape…it stretches more and easier to get wrinkles

    • @samershammers
      @samershammers  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@loreec90 I didn't mean movement, if you have movement you should use screws to fixe it before do anything , I meant vibrations (walking or leaning on walls) This tape is used in new homes(walls are stable and strong) without this tape will see cracks in every joint, In concrete houses, there is no need to use such a tape because it does not move, it is not like wooden houses when some one walk in first floor You feel his steps throughout the house, Simply, I did not invent anything , I installed something it was missing or broken or defect during construction, thanks for watching.
