Yes, that crossed my mind too. Am sure these new chips and sounds are all designed with TT:120 in mind but, the whole system is for any scale, if they’ll fit, etc so, it has to be chuff rate friendly due to this I’m sure
Building my first layout, I’m going to just go manual points for now as I don’t know how to wire but I’ve ordered a decoder for my loco and digital track power. As I understand it the loco connects to iPad via Bluetooth but how would track point motors connect so that you could use the app to switch track direction rather than manually switching it?
It’s here and it’s great. I think I spotted why you had some issues Andy or it could be a couple of your screens may be out of sync in the video. The updates you are prompted to install are to the decoder not the device you using as your controller, so you need to link the decoders to your device first, update the decoders to latest spec and then it’s all good. The sound files are big so take a while, it can take a couple of uploads to get it in, it’s probably the device doing other stuff in background that causes this, and then remember to upload the running and functions files and you are good to go 😁 I expect we won’t see you for a while now, it’s all very addictive
Yes, of course. It all happens so fast. Did try recreate the issue I had and log the confusing bit but, once working it was all good. As you say, there are many things that can go wrong. Not sure why the iPhone 6 wouldn’t load the app though 👍🙏⭐️

Hi Andy, I have two TXS decoders installed but waiting for the Android App. What I'm most interested in is to find out if the chuff rate is synchronized with the wheel rotation for most of my fleet is TTS sound and this feature was missing and is now integrated in the new TXS as I understood and confirmer by Hornby. But I saw a video and it wasn't !!! Except if you can alter a CV to set it right ?? Thanks for this nice review and I wish you 'happy model railroading' & success ! Cheers, Filip
Thanks Flip. Haven’t got that far yet and same Q got asked in Hornby TT Talk 2. The answer given was an ever so slightly hesitant yeah, far as I recall but, yes, CV settings can be altered on the fly so, don’t see why not, though don’t hold me to it 🙏🤞
@@modeloco waiting for Android app as not a appel fan. Looks like Hornby are gonna blow the market up a bit. Been thinking for a few yrs we've been victim of a high price fixing racket, especially where sound is concerned!
I need help I’m a total noob 🙈 I have lots of TT stuff got 75 feet of new Peco flex track only thing is I’m not sure how I’m gonna power it, I bought a Hornby transformer 15v-4amp power supply with a 2 prong adapter thing 😂 so do I just need to cut my adapter prongy thing and wire that up to my Bus wire that feeds my droppers. Sorry folks but I’m just unsure, I’m not using all the 75 foot of track.
Basically yes. The prong thing as you call it is probably the Hornby R7324 adapter wire, one end plugs into your male ended mains transformer end to save chopping that bit off then, yes, cut the other end off and bare the wires or, solder two new wires onto the prongs, bit messy looking, that option, then they’ll need soldering onto either the underside or, outer side of your track but, not the inner of the rails as that’s where the train wheel flanges run of course. It’s better to cut the sleeper away underneath and solder your two dropper wires there, pointing inward so, they’ll both drop through one hole in your baseboard in the centre of where your track runs.
Now, there are the Peco PL-82 Power feed joiners if you don’t like soldering which are n scale but, Peco TT:120 track uses n scale fishplates so, another option

Andy I use hornby elite I have just put a HM decoder in one of my loco do you need Xanax separate Power supply 7000 to operate both 7000 and elite hope this makes sense
Which decoder exactly. Presuming it’s one of the new Hornby Bluetooth range and, your running a DCC set up, the Hornby elite and its included power supply are all that’s required in conjunction with the free HM7000 app. Elite in DCC only mode. Not sure what you mean by a Xanax 7000 so, can’t comment on those and because of that wouldn’t recommend. I’m on Apple devices only and, only use these with the HM7000 app and, it’s only these, for IOS gadgets not Mac computers at present, that can be used and that are recommended. My experience has shown the iPhone 6 didn’t work but, my 1st generation iPad Pro does. Hope this helps.
Did say it quickly but, no it’s just for iOS and soon android. Not windows PC or, a Mac computer, which, for instance runs on OS, which is a different operating system, though they are coming closer. Railmaster does run on a computer but, only the windows PC operating system and can toggle to an android or, Apple iOS device but, it relied on dedicated settings, home Wi-Fi, a strange connection process and so, was very hit and miss.
Hi Andy, No but, the Function Control Grid Layout in settings can be set to ‘Compact’ and I prefer this, as it makes the function page sound/light/etc buttons smaller, which fit on the iPad without scrolling up, when down in landscape view. Having used the app and, as it’s with such ease, that you can select between locos or, vehicles as it calls them then, I feel, this would only confuse. It’s been well thought through in my opinion 👍
The one major thing for me is i feel like the direction needs to be reversed. Left needs to be forward in my opinion. Apart from that I can't wait for it to come out on Android. Looks like a great system.
@@hsalariya Hello, I1 months ago I had to do 6 months Modelling in 4 weeks so, the signaling part was one area like the Magnorail Motorbikes seen going round on some videos, that slipped through the net and something I need to address at some point as I do have more working signals, waiting to be fitted. If wired in correctly the one I have in Shiredale Station already has given me no issues. Is that something you’d like to see?
Superb Paul. Love how you’ve incorporated it all so, solid, aesthetically pleasing to the eye and, naturally flowing throughout. Best private OO garden running session I’ve seen. Take it, you did the groundwork and obviously have some well put to use skills in this field. Inspired ❤️
Yeah, this can be a bit confusing. Hit the little joystick icon, bottom left, of screen, then hit locomotive settings button, which is below the vehicle image picture on right hand side. This will then take you there. Let me know how you get on 👍
Thanks and I do feel and understand your frustration on your other comments but, once going the system is very good. A far cry from Railmaster and this app runs on modern Mac gadgets 👍
Hi William, Tap the relevant loco, at the top of the control page. All active Vehicles show up here. Inactive ones are stored in the engine shed, found on the settings page
I find for loco numbers that the last 2 digits are more intuitive. Thus your Mallard could be 68, helps if you have friends over to run as well. I rather like operating with a knob on my controller this I would use Bluetooth for updates and run via in my case my Z21.
Great idea, and yes, I’ll be using my Digitrax controller for OO. Will be interesting to see how the app reads older style, track fed decoders and if the price of these will now come down a little to compete?
If anything is free sadly you're the product. I would be very wary of where the servers are for this 'free' app. If it's China it's a no go. Just not worth the risk.
Hi Andy, Found the answer in the 'Full Reference Manual'. (copy - paste) "STEAM LOCOMOTIVES... Engine Running Sound Non-Synchronised Wheel Chuff system... Utilising 18 pre-set chuff rates an approximate synchronisation of chuff/wheel rotation is possible." I my humble opinion this is the same system as the TTS and thus not as the real chuff should play ! There are no CV settings - it is 'Pre-configured'. The Non-Synchronized chuff is most noticeable at start and slow speed. I will compare with the TTS to find out if there is a difference... but this seems already a dead born child ! Seems a false declaration made by Hornby on the live chat and that's not very positive on their already disputable Image ! thanks for your kind relies!
Hi Flip, I see. That would explain the feeling I picked up then. The up side is, these chips are half the cost. Do know the TTS sound decoders can struggle when configuring for block detection with iTrain but, I’ll face that when I get to it. That too is something to do with acceleration and deceleration at low speeds, as I recall. Mmm 🤔
@Filip 36 “Dead born child” what a strange way to describe a bit of electronics that doesn’t live up to your “chuffing” expectations. In case you missed it you are buying into a system that requires only a power supply to use - no DCC command station. You’re getting a decoder that can switch seamlessly from Bluetooth control to DCC control. You’re getting a vast array of sound files at way less cost. Now for the purists the chuff sync may be important but I humbly suggest that this is not a poor product as your rather crass description suggests.
Let not, division in thought divide us. There’s no doubt in the pursuit of creation, that doubt, chaos, mistakes and, misunderstandings always occur. Words can go deep, depending on our own life’s experiences. We can even be our own worst enemy too, depending on many things. I grew up with my grandma often using quips and sayings, to get her passionate feelings across, like, ‘Ooo, enter the fairy spitting blood’ when she felt unheard, unloved, ignored or, that things were going in a certain direction, that she felt would lead to an even worse outcome, if not addressed. She could be very hurt too, by the responses back, from my Auntie. It then became a battle to win over the other Auntie and, I would watch it unfold, until one would breakdown in tears, usually as we all played cards and a game of Snap, at the table. It was so sad to witness. I’d then feel hurt and feel the need to stand up for whoever was upset but, had no skills or, words to voice this, as my mind would try come to some decision, who was hurting most. My Dad would laugh and say, sticks and stones may break my bones but, words shall never hurt me. The truth was I knew they all loved each other and just wanted the best and, that this friction was all part of the process week after week. I’m not taking sides and understand both the heads and tails of it. I feel the same emotions and passion here too, as we all go forward. I’m truly grateful, that I’ve found others who share the same love of a great hobby. Beats playing Snap! Hugs
@@modeloco I agree & understand Andy. Most appreciated ! Not a point for discussion. But clearly: I didn't bring the product down by just stating a 'researched fact' of an 'aspect' that's important to me. My test between TXS and TTS will be 'conclusive' regarding the 'rate'. Kind regards, Filip
Thanks for the comment. All sounds come from the locomotives, their relative decoders and built in sugar cube speakers. I’ve never entertained the thought of an app or gadget supplying these. Hope this answers your question 👍
Just when I thought that was a distant memory… did ask the question of, what do I say, they’re all asking but, the answer got lost in other TT:120 matters at the time.
The chips did burn out initially on release if you tried running in Analogue mode, etc on certain controllers. I indeed had this happen. They’ve since amended advice and updated the app too a few times and have had no further issues at all. The Bluetooth decoder is slightly bigger but, fits in TT:120 locos apart from Class 08
The big red flag for me is you need a Hornby account to use the app. If they shut that down in the future it's stone dead. I would wonder why you need an account to use the functionality.
Hi Graeme, The app is free. The decoders are about half the price of other established sound chips and, can be accessed via normal DCC controllers, once set up and, you’d do that straight away. Regarding Hornby shutting down, mmm, were this to ever happen and yes, that could happen to any company out there but, as model manufacturers go, Hornby have been around about the longest and, the latest products, speak for themselves because, from what I’m seeing now, are superb. From this alone, I feel, only strengthens their future. Nothing is certain, let’s face it and, everything must eventually pass or, evolve. Account registrations, are what most apps and companies would ask for, nowadays so, they can validate users, to keep other users safe, to continue receiving updates, news, warranties and, thus helping, secure you to the system, on your device, should your device ever get stolen, hacked into or, damaged in future. The links protect your decoders from being linked into, by anyone else, once connected. In the past 20 years dealing with Hornby, as a consumer, I’ve found them to, always go that extra mile and hope this helps 🙏
Bluetooth has never been that reliable, Try Rocco Z21 or Rocco Z21. Both brilliant.. Hornby are always too little too late. With glitches. Time will tell
You need a science degree just to open the box with these things, how many hours in real time did it take you to Sus all this rhubarb. Weeks I suspect.
Hornby now have videos out to accompany the process. Hopefully others like me help as well. It took me longer to suss out about scales and gauges in UK
I do think they’re trying Kenneth. Since I did this video things have got better and a few initial glitches sorted. There is a learning curve a bit like making your first layout. I understand concerns and being possibly led up the garden path
Thanks, for taking the time to voice your feelings. We’re all different, not everyone likes The Beatles. Would find this almost impossible to comprehend at times but, guess, it balances things out. You can’t have light, without dark.
@Modeloco that is very true I don't know if it the Speaker or the profile just sounds very Ratley and high pitch but maybe sounds different in the flesh but I do see massive potential for this if hornby open it up to allow outside sound profiles and if thay made the chip a lot more smaller so to accommodate for much wider range of locomotives
@@brickleyyard4966 The You Tube algorithm does seem to filter out certain frequencies to enhance speech on mainly spoken content so, this can add unfortunately, to the brittleness I feel.
Not sure why the iPhone 6 wouldn’t load the app though 👍🙏⭐️
amazing video you made it look so easy and what a great demo
That’s very generous of you to say so Alan. Thank you 🙏
Great video have you tried the 7000 chip using a Digitrax controller? I have tested one works OK on Hornby Elite but fails on Digitrax it just judders. I would be interested it it works for you. Bryn
Hi Bryn, Will certainly let you know, having now fitted a HM7000 8TXS one into a new OO. As you state, fine with Elite so, far.
The answer given was an ever so slightly hesitant yeah, far as I recall but, yes, CV settings can be altered on the fly so, don’t see why not, though don’t hold me to it 🙏🤞
If it could be programmable to replace the traditional device and run auto back and forth on DC track. It must be appreciated.
Planning this using iTrain for now. PS sorry for late response it appears my last didn’t reach you?
Well done laddie!!
Thanks Mark.
@@modeloco waiting for Android app as not a appel fan. Looks like Hornby are gonna blow the market up a bit. Been thinking for a few yrs we've been victim of a high price fixing racket, especially where sound is concerned!
I understand. Not sure why a Loksound decoder is 120+ but, Hornby have halved that and some yes. What puts you off 🍏?
@@modeloco thanks for the information and help, your knowledge is really appreciated. Iv gone all out on the TT stuff I have all sorts to add to my layout and just love working the plans out and I’m on building a 10 foot arch bridge system 😂 I’m like a kid at Christmas. I was waiting for a video on how all this worked, well done getting this out there first, great explanations on it all, this all looks to be the way of the future.
It will be nice also to see how you toggle through the app controlling different trains, or if there will be a way to have multiple control sliders on the one page to do this.
Excellent points, very much appreciated and yes, will be great to see how this pans out further and with, more locos on the layouts
Andy I use hornby elite I have just put a HM decoder in one of my loco do you need Xanax separate Power supply 7000 to operate both 7000 and elite hope this makes sense
Andy can I run the Elite as well as 7000 at the same time kind regards Paul
The 7000 being what?
Inside the app, a page provides some track layouts. What is their feature and purpose?
To design your layout plans and also for future accessory control features like Railmaster
@@modeloco Thank you. Seems HM product series will have a big development space in future.
Hello-really love the video, but please is it possible to use this app on a laptop with a touch screen?
Did say it quickly but, no it’s just for iOS and soon android. Not windows PC or, a Mac computer, which, for instance runs on OS, which is a different operating system, though they are coming closer. Railmaster does run on a computer but, only the windows PC operating system and can toggle to an android or, Apple iOS device but, it relied on dedicated settings, home Wi-Fi, a strange connection process and so, was very hit and miss.
Can you split the screen and have 2 locos up at once
You could always change the cvs to switch it around
I do agree ! Fiddling with CV29 isn't always strait forward.
@@stephenbromley2302 I guess, I just think it would make sense to me from a visual perspective it being the other way round on the app is all.
Maybe, once you got used to it then, it would become second nature. That’s what I’m hoping lol 😂
Hi, where can I find your video about N gauge signals on TT layout please.

I need to know what hardware and the working like circuit/relays etc. Thanks!

Superb Paul. Love how you’ve incorporated it all so, solid, aesthetically pleasing to the eye and, naturally flowing throughout. Best private OO garden running session I’ve seen. Take it, you did the groundwork and obviously have some well put to use skills in this field. Inspired ❤️
when i go to the setting page i do not get the menu across the top ie data function cv editor
Yeah, this can be a bit confusing. Hit the little joystick icon, bottom left, of screen, then hit locomotive settings button, which is below the vehicle image picture on right hand side. This will then take you there. Let me know how you get on 👍
@@modeloco thanks will try tomorrow and let you know
NICE layout
Thanks and I do feel and understand your frustration on your other comments but, once going the system is very good. A far cry from Railmaster and this app runs on modern Mac gadgets 👍
How do alternate between different locos while running more than one at a time?
Hi William, Tap the relevant loco, at the top of the control page. All active Vehicles show up here. Inactive ones are stored in the engine shed, found on the settings page
Fantastic 🙏
Thanks DG. Hope all’s well with your Pullmans
@@modeloco Iv got just about everything but have a problem in all about it in my other comment 😂
@@Dr.Gunsmith replied 👍
Don’t know
Hi Andy, Found the answer in the 'Full Reference Manual'. (copy - paste)
"STEAM LOCOMOTIVES... Engine Running Sound
Non-Synchronised Wheel Chuff system... Utilising 18 pre-set chuff rates an approximate synchronisation of chuff/wheel rotation is possible."
I my humble opinion this is the same system as the TTS and thus not as the real chuff should play !
@@Haymarket47 Maybe you should read all my comments instead of your 'crass' reply. At least I'm objective.
Andy did you get my message on reply Paul barnard Daws Heath garden railway oo gauge thank you Paul
Yes 👍
so the sound is from the phone or still from the loco?
Thanks for the comment. All sounds come from the locomotives, their relative decoders and built in sugar cube speakers. I’ve never entertained the thought of an app or gadget supplying these. Hope this answers your question 👍
Nicely done modeloco! Sounds like you’re having fun. Are you at liberty to tell us the story of where you got the decoder from yet?
Just when I thought that was a distant memory… did ask the question of, what do I say, they’re all asking but, the answer got lost in other TT:120 matters at the time.
Monty pythons makes sense to me now. Hide all the crap inside a few good things. What a parlava. Def: not plug and play then....what a suprise.mmmmm
Always look on the bright side of life came to mind. I’d definitely recommend a Mac device but, having fitted 6 now the mystery lifts.
Sam,s trains and others swear blind that the chips don't fit or break down, Well.
Same can be said about Railmaster, and that keeps on being supported by Hornby.
Bluetooth has never been that reliable, Try Rocco Z21 or Rocco Z21. Both brilliant.. Hornby are always too little too late. With glitches. Time will tell
I hear you and as for time, it will indeed.
You need a science degree just to open the box with these things, how many hours in real time did it take you to Sus all this rhubarb. Weeks I suspect.
Hornby now have videos out to accompany the process. Hopefully others like me help as well. It took me longer to suss out about scales and gauges in UK
That whistle sound is terrible not like an A4
😥
HORNBY MUST DO BETTER, BUT THEY NEVER DO. NICE TRY BUT BLOODY COMPLICATED, I BUILT MY FIRST COMPUTER, BUT ALL THAT FIDLING ABOUT, NO NO NO
I do think they’re trying Kenneth. Since I did this video things have got better and a few initial glitches sorted. There is a learning curve a bit like making your first layout. I understand concerns and being possibly led up the garden path
Rocco rip off
That’s innovation. We all learn off of each other to go forward I guess
God that sounds terrible sorry but it's not really worth the time
Thanks, for taking the time to voice your feelings.
Plus, the recording process &, the gadget used for playback can add to that as well. I noticed a more encompassing (surround sound effect) improvement straight away & own both TTS & SOUND FITTED, Hornby & Bachmann models. More experimentation being necessary as placement can play a pert but, didn't feel it was worse. Having just fitted another with the included plug in, sugar cube speaker, to a OO model so, with bigger Bass enclosure & their new plug in 'Power Bank', I'm very happy indeed.

I shall hold back on this as Hornby have made them fairly cheap to buy as they probably are looking to draw people in and shall be looking to charge people a subscription cost to cover the Bluetooth coast of the system that they shall have to look after any Hornby. Also the sugar speakers are rubbish
