2023, still great! This was added onto a compilation CD that David Berne helped release in 2006, 07? Can't seem to find it... Anyway was my first introduction to CR, super nostalgic. Great rendition.
Even the first time hearing this, it's nostalgic to me. I like this version a lot more than the original. It has more of a hauntingly beautiful quality.
i heard this version first, and the atmosphere is amazing. the harp and chicken sounds, i love this shit. damien jurado sings the song with more feeling though, obviously.
Four years ago, the first time I ever heard these girls, I was in love. This music has been my very favorite since I first heard it, and they've inspired me to explore in places I would've never thought in the musical world. You girls have given me a talent that could never beat yours, but that I never thought I could have, I love you guys
out from my window: "how far is ohio?" she laughed and pointed out east she said: "I grew up there with my dear mother and I haven't seen her since thirteen you see, I was taken while she lay sleeping by my father's hired man we moved to a city so far from my family I haven't been back there since it's been a long time, a real long time," This songs really speaks to me because: Moved to Virginia from Ohio. I grew up in Ohio. I haven't seen my father since I was 15. I left Ohio when I was 18.
out from my window across from the city I have what's considered a good view two blocks from the subway, three from the fountain where I walk to break in new shoes she stands on the sidewalk just waving at taxis like horses in parades in fantasies I ask where she's headed she tells me: "ohio, I've not seen my mother in ages it's been a long time, a real long time." out from my window: "how far is ohio?" she laughed and pointed out east she said: "I grew up there with my dear mother and I haven't seen her since thirteen you see, I was taken while she lay sleeping by my father's hired man we moved to a city so far from my family I haven't been back there since it's been a long time, a real long time," out from my window, please hear me, ohio your daughter wants to come home she longs to be with you to hug you, to kiss you to never leave her alone and I've gotten to know her to live with, to love her it's hard to see her leave she belongs to her mother and the state of ohio I wish she belonged to me see you sometime see you sometime
its a cover, they did it for fun so they arent supposed to show true feeling since they havent experienced these lyrics... they show feeling in their own songs
Damien Jurado's version totally evokes the longing and missing Ohio. And family is such a major key factor in the lyrics which I feel nothing of in the interpretation from Cocorosie. I just don't sense any of the yearning and heartfelt tenderness in this version. I really like Cocorosie. But I think this version is completely void of the slow paced outdoors backroads natural feel of Ohio.
Totally disagree. This version is far more haunting and mysterious. It sounds like it's being played over a cheap radio on the street. Jurado's version is almost sentimental and corny in comparison. I prefer their dark take.
Ten years later this is still giving me chills how good it is.
The nostalgia I feel when I re listen always gives me goosebumps ❤
I need Emma
I need bianca

Just cried to this #NoShame
Stunning is quite acurate! I feel the love

Damien Jurado is awesome...he's just the best young storyteller nowdays...
The original by Damien Jurado has long been a favorite of mine, and now Cocorosie? dang. Here is original: th-cam.com/video/qUh6ykthAzM/w-d-xo.html
OMG THANKS!!! *O*
I far prefer this version. The production style and performance are way more haunting.
I heard the CocoRosie version first but I’ve come to adore Jurado’s original too.
Oh please just give me Ohio.

New favorite song.
out from my window:
"how far is ohio?"
she laughed and pointed out east
she said:
"I grew up there with my dear mother
and I haven't seen her since thirteen
you see, I was taken while she lay sleeping
by my father's hired man
we moved to a city so far from my family
I haven't been back there since
it's been a long time, a real long time,"
This songs really speaks to me because:
Moved to Virginia from Ohio.
I grew up in Ohio.
I haven't seen my father since I was 15.
I left Ohio when I was 18.
Love you 💕
It’s been a long time....a real long time
out from my window across from the city
I have what's considered a good view
two blocks from the subway, three from the fountain
where I walk to break in new shoes
she stands on the sidewalk just waving at taxis
like horses in parades in fantasies
I ask where she's headed
she tells me:
"ohio, I've not seen my mother in ages
it's been a long time, a real long time."
out from my window:
"how far is ohio?"
she laughed and pointed out east
she said:
"I grew up there with my dear mother
and I haven't seen her since thirteen
you see, I was taken while she lay sleeping
by my father's hired man
we moved to a city so far from my family
I haven't been back there since
it's been a long time, a real long time,"
out from my window, please hear me, ohio
your daughter wants to come home
she longs to be with you
to hug you, to kiss you
to never leave her alone
and I've gotten to know her
to live with, to love her
it's hard to see her leave
she belongs to her mother and the state of ohio
I wish she belonged to me
see you sometime
see you sometime
ty so much

I heart ashlyn and bianca
Not surprised to see a bunch of lame Damien Jurado fanboys in the comments. This version is darker, which suits the lyrics much better.
