Thank you so much for this video! I just bought two new plants without drainage holes and I was concerned they weren't gonna do well. Now I know what to do to keep them alive 💕
Really helpful video! Just found a bargain for a really nice ceramic pot without drainage holes, so I’m glad to know they’re not as necessary as I was made to believe. Thanks a lot!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO. I WILL BE MAKING SOME CHANGES TO MY PLANTS AROUND MY HOME AND WHEN I GET READY IN SPRING FOR THE YARD AND MY HERB GARDEN INSIDE AND OUT. ENJOY YOUR DAY!
Very good point here. I have a few planters without drainage. It pays to pay attention to your plants. In my opinion, it's just good to hang out with your plants anyway.
Philodendron cordatum and green pothos does really decent without drainage. Swampy to dry soil is okay. I switched most my plants to drainage holes, with a larger outer container without drainage.
Thats a good way to do it as well, this allows the soil to wick up the water for a period of time. I know most peoples homes are very low humidity so sometimes it can be beneficial
My boyfriend got us drill attachments to make variously sized drainage holes because I generally prefer drainage holes, but, I am thinking of trying my cane begonia in a non draining pot when it is time to repot! :)
Phew! I just got several new pots. None came with drainage holes! I started to wonder if they were necessary. Why would they sell them like that otherwise. If I over water I can always use the chopstick method to separate and help dry things out.
I throw good food grade plastic water bottles in larger containers without holes then add soil and plants. It also helps to fill in and use less soil than really necessary for big pots.
I don't know why but I had the urge to plant a tomato. So I found a glass container and planted it. I didn't know how much water to put so I just put until all the sand was damp (cause its glass so I could see it) after one week or so I saw that it had started growing. I almost thought someone had added something to it. I continued watering when it was dry and now my plant is really like thriving. But my mom said that plants need drainage so I was worried my plant would die. But I could already see the roots at the bottom of the glass. Anyway I'm probably typing this for myself.
I used bottle caps and clear, aquarium safe silicone to seal some drainage holes-just put the cap over the hole on the inside of the pot and put the silicone around it. (Aquarium safe silicone is best I think, since other silicone caulking could have anti-fungal or other chemicals that could harm the plant!)
Thanks for this video. Also one more thing do you have suggestions or is it a no brainer do you have to use Top Soil for Pot indoor plants? Or its got to be really the Potting mix soil? Can you make a video on this prolly same plant but different soil and then see if its gonna grow faster to which soil. Thanks man
This is all depending on the plant because each one may have different moisture requirements. Typically I will recommend an indoor mix because they will be free of pests 👨🌾
I actually have a few plants in pots without drainage holes. Most of my other plants are in pots with drainage holes or nursery pots with drainage and a cover pot. I've been bad about over watering in the past and I'm trying to get better about it, so far so good.
Yes! Unfortunately most indoor plants are killed by overwatering from what I’ve seen in the comments and from what I see friends do when they ask me what’s wrong with their plants. Some say they water more than once a week which is way too often in most cases
I have an aleo vera plant and got a pot without drainage holes so glad i can still use it? But to start off with how much water and how often should i water it?
The plants you showed were immature. Show some plants you have had more than6 months. Drainage is better because the plants are confined in those pots.
Thank you so much! I’ve been stressing about this drainage hole issue for months.

how often do you water your aloe
If water is sitting in the drainage area should I empty it out? Does sitting water stimulate the roots to head to the bottom? I don't know.
Thank you very much!

How about aleo Vera plants? Do they need drainage holes?

Should I put rocks at the bottom of the pot before adding soil? Someone told me that since I was looking for answers. Your video is super helpful 👌
Yes ,you can put small gravel, pebble, etc. Because they help in proper drainage...😊
Nope
No way 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 y oh my ive just learn this today
thank you so much new subscriber
Thanks for subbing!
Can drainage holes be added to an outdoor plastic pedestal pot?
Definitely! I usually drill 3/8” holes for drainage
Does snake plant need drainage hole? And is it ok for me to use a plastic planter?
I’ve got a 20 year old snake plant in a plastic pot.
There is a hole, but since it’s an arid climate plant it does fine.
cant help noticing all the plants you showed are ones that prefer dry-ish almost desert like soils.
my red celosias are starting to sprout and I want to keep them right here under me because the computer gets hot and the humidity is high in here
Love from india
great video, this will last at least forever.
Can large in door plants have planters with no drainage holes in them ?
Absolutely!
Once every 3 weeks? Wow
Yes! Unfortunately most indoor plants are killed by overwatering from what I’ve seen in the comments and from what I see friends do when they ask me what’s wrong with their plants. Some say they water more than once a week which is way too often in most cases

What about a dish under the outdoor hanging plant pot that has a drain hole?
What about it?
Would it help keep the roots moist without drenching them too much?
Yes outdoors it can really help because of how fast the water will evaporate from the hanging pot.
What about no drainage hole & plant shock ? It’s like maybe you’ll get root rot & maybe not! Lol shucks

Succulents don't need a lot of water, but other plants, need more water , 3 weeks it's a long time with no water for some. Every plant is different.
