This kid is likely better at drums than most, certainly better than me:/ Still, there are insanely skilled drummers who easily put this performance in the dirt. This kid probably only had about 1,000 hours *TOPS* to learn how to play like that. It’s a lot of time but hardly close to mastering something. There are probably people who have spent 30,000+ hours practicing drums. Fun fact: Books on statistics tend to say people need 10,000 hours of nonstop practicing before they’re considered a legitimate master at it:)

@@A30_TKD metal is not rock, it’s a form of rock, there’s a difference, but that still doesn’t require nowhere near as much control as jazz drumming, especially something as difficult as this. Metal is 99% blast beats and double bass pedals, jazz drumming is more about the control and the endurance to play for extended periods in different time signatures, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever seen on drums by far
When I was in band I hated being so close to the snares, but we always prided ourselves by being the loudest band in the state and proving it every football game. I used to have a video of me listening to them clearly at a quarter mile away like it was maybe 200 feet.

Thoughts as a drummer for 5 years: Definitely not bad for a high school kid, but the description hypes him up like crazy. This is what, most likely, lead to the hate comments. Yes, the timing isn't perfect, and yes, his hits are a little choppy, but he was in high school. I think if there weren't so many comments acting like he played the solo note for note, there wouldn't be any hate messages

I wasn’t referring to the movie, I think he’s a young kid trying to learn, will he ever play Caravan properly, probably not, will he be another Buddy Rich, Sonny Payne or Chick Webb? Probably not, but it was ok to watch a kid play around a bit.
