Every time I see a Chrysler F-body, I think about the Spitfire Orange 1977 Dodge Aspen my parents bought brand new at Music City Dodge in Nashville. It had white interior, white rub strips, the white partial vinyl roof, and the wire wheel covers. Dad thought that was the best looking car he ever saw. A guy at church was running regular gasoline (cheaper than unleaded) in his Oldsmobile, so dad thought he could too. That Aspen never ran right after he tried regular gasoline. Dad blamed the car for years, but he finally admitted that it was his fault a few years ago. Anyway, I still love these F-bodies and this survivor Petty Kit Car is amazing in its originality.

I had a 79 Volare police package with a 360. It was a little rocket ship, fun to drive. First time seeing a Petty Volare, whacky fun.

I knew about the Volare road runner and the 1980 Duster , but I never heard of one of these , love it great video. You know back in the late 70s the big 3 all had these odd balls, like Buick had the Roadhawk ,Chevy had the monza mirage, Ford had the cobra II , etc etc even Cadillac had in 79 the Deville phaeton, those were good times

I can respect this car. The Aspens and Volares were much maligned, but were actually good cars. Had decent styling, were a good size, had a nice ride and handled well for a car in it's class. Were a bit of an improvement over the Darts and Valiants.

Never heard of these - got to give Plymouth credit for the nerve to go for this.
Clearly not your average Volare. The details are wild - window clips, hood pins etc.
Thanks for bringing this classic survivor to us Lou!

Growing up in high school, my buddy had a two-door Volare premier. It was a beautiful car with every option available, but he didn't have it long enough to see any of the ill effects of the rusting. I never heard of one of these ,what an oddball 🤔 thanks Lou!

It's been hard for me to see the Plymouth Volare and the sister car the Dodge Aspen as race cars. My dad bought a 76 or 77 Plymouth Volare station wagon light blue color like the hood here. My Grandma bought a 78 or 79 Dodge Aspen 2 door. The Aspen was every bit a grandma's car with a slant 6. I turned 16 in 77. The Volare had a 318 in it as my dad was helping make those. I wish Chrysler had made a new instrument panel without woodgrain plus tach or slapped a tach on the dash.

The bain of Mopar in the late 70s...the electronic lean burn. There were 6 if I remember correctly running around town back in 82; 4 red Road Runners & 2 B5 Petty Cars (1 of which was in a family who only owned Mopars, all 13 cars from 67-78). Other than the Mopar family, the others were owned by guys that raced at Santa Fe Speedway, LaSalle Speedway, Grundy County Speedway and one drag racer from the old US30 Dragstrip.

nowadays, almost all cars look alike.....
    one designer, and everybody copies.
worst example: when ex-president trump visited europe and the big square front of his cars appeared.....
what happened ? : almost all european brands started to imitate the front-look..
now even mercedes AND the once sooo proudly individuals, the french, for ex. peugeot !!!
