I love that you are an ESL teaching puppeteer, you must have so much fun in class! I haven't used too many puppets with my class but I do tend to use similar techniques to turn objects into 'puppets'. Especially with younger learners they love interacting with objects they are learning about 😊

How do you introduce a lesson on action words. eg sit down and stand up even before introducing a game or a song.. and what props should I use?

It's. a little tricky to explain without knowing exactly what you want to teach. If you were teaching sit down and stand up, I would make this a game in your class. Have students stand up and then sit down, continue but then do the opposite of what you. say and see how many students get it wrong.
For other action verbs such as jump, climb, and fly, I might introduce the actions using flashcards and TPR and then make a game using a die. You can place the flashcards facedown on the floor, a student then comes to the front, rolls the die. and picks a card. The whole class then needs to complete that action that number of times. For example if the die lands on a three and the flashcard is jump, the whole class jumps three times.
