I worked at several Subways over 10 years. At a few of those,I started to throw away outdated food. But managers told me to just re-date them. Yeah, for real... I highly recommend NOT the crab or tuna

I often judge a restaurant by their restrooms. The dirtier a restroom is, the dangerous their foods are.

I've been working at a McDonalds for 3+ Years and I can Vouch for this Video! We DON'T Clean the McCafe Machines, the Ice Machines, the Soda Machines or Microwaves and Ovens! There is ZERO Training on how to Disassemble and Clean Properly. Everything is Rushed! We are Open 24/7 so there is ZERO Time Spent on Properly Cleaning ANYTHING! Also, NOTHING is Fresh and EVERYTHING Comes in Frozen and Pre-cooked! We just Store Everything in Small Fridges and Walk-In Freezer/Fridges. Everything You Order is Whipped Together Hastefully and with Little to NO Care at all! Zero Time is Spent Training New Hires as They Tend to be Teens - Early 20s and Quit Almost as Fast as They are Hired. Only Time the Store is Properly Cleaned is RIGHT BEFORE AN INSPECTION! WE KNOW AHEAD OF TIME WHEN THEY ARE COMING AND THEN AND ONLY THEN IS PROPER CARE GIVEN TO CLEANLINESS! The Fish, and Chicken DO INFACT SIT IN HEATING TRAYS for HOURS! Especially the Fish! Its Not Commonly Ordered so They just SIT IN THE TRAY AND STAY WARM FOR 4+ Hours! I Never Ate Fast Food Much Growing Up and even though it is RIGHT INFRONT OF ME and Offered to Us Free of Charge I NEVER EAT IT! Also, the Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles and Cheese are Laid Out in the Open for us to Assemble the Food. Problem there is they are CONSTANTLY Covered in Flies! We have NOTHING on hand to deal with them so They just Fuck and Fly Around on EVERYTHING! Save Your Money and just BUY YOUR OWN FOOD FOR YOUR KIDS! I Feel AWFUL Knowing a Large Amount of this Garbage is Served to Children. Trust Me, NO CARE IS GIVEN TO ANY OF THIS! Its All About Making the Most Money, the Cheapest Way Possible! You have been Warned!

i worked for a dunkin donuts for almost 10 years. during those 10 years i learned how to take apart, clean, and calibrate every machine we had. i knew more about the machines than my manager. it was standard to clean the ice machine every 2 weeks. i would spend a couple of hours every other sunday removing all ice from the machine and taking it apart to clean.

    • @mnmb3640

kur0kiba i cleaned our ice machine out every 2 weeks when I was a supervisor at Friendly’s. It was hard work to get all the ice out, of which I tossed in the mop drain and the sinks. Cleaned the machine out with and made sure it was well dried out. Then flipped the switch before I left that night and fresh ice the next day. There are plenty of people in the industry that actually do care about their jobs and about safety. Most of these horror stories are rare occurrence. Just saying.

I used to work for subway in Canada, I was there for 7 years, they've removed pretty much all of the preservatives in stuff by the end of 2017.
"Shiny beef" is not due to stuff being added, jeez. It's because of diffraction grating. It's simply because of the way the light hits the meat that was sliced sharply against the grain.
The cold cut doesn't arrive in a "syrup;" meat has moisture in it and some of it collects at the bottom of the package. The smell comes from the gas that they have in the package. Oxygen reduces the shelf life of plenty of stuff; haven't you ever seen a cut apple go brown? They fill the package with gas to keep oxygen away. The use of modified atmosphere packaging actually means that they are taking steps to keep the food from spoiling without having to add preservatives.
The edges of the black forest ham are as smooth as it can get, I remember commenting to my old coworkers at how smooth the rind is. No hairs were seen during our close inspection.
As for the Tuna, those labels are simply saying that it is sourced from a provider that takes steps to prevent dolphins and turtles from being harmed in the process of catching the fish. Regulations may have changed, either stating that all commercial tuna must be sorced in such a manner, or that it is something that no longer is required to be noted on labels. The tuna is identical to what you get from the store; I've compared the look, texture, taste, and smell.

As... someone who works at McDonalds... Our managers are trained to clean are McCafe shake and frappe machine... And if more maintenance needs to be done we have a maintenance man come and do that stuff for us... As for the fish fillet and the Nuggets... We sell through nuggets ridiculously quickly... We can sell up to 100 nuggets in 10 minutes... But that just maybe where we live... Ask for the fish fillet? We never cook more than 4 at a time because no one ever buys it. And if the timer on the cabinet goes off then we toss what we have in the waste bin. And usually after 8 p.m. we cook everything fresh and to order. Yeah people have to wait but people don't usually complain about having fresh food

As someone who also works at McDonalds (Northern Canada), I can vouch for this, and if we don't keep everything clean, and nice the Managers will tell us to do so (Grill gets steam-cleaned every hour or sooner, and every time we switch products on the grill: ie going from beef to sausage, or vice-versa, and its scraped/squeegeed every time something comes off)

True attacking McD is just fun and apparently okay.
Most people know all fast food is fried to heck and not to much can survive that.
You could fry up a turd and put ketchup on it and it won't be too bad.

      @hetznaz7902 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

@@TheRoidemortetfleur I get hot oil splashed on my skin almost daily (I'm a clumsy fucker) and I can tell you, nothing could survive in it for more then 30 seconds (Everything that goes in the fryers takes over 2 min to cook minimum), and same thing with the grills, just touching them for a split second can give you a 2nd-3rd degree burn (speaking from experience), which at that temp, nothing could survive for even the minimum cook time (38 seconds) assuming it could even get to the meat (which is kept in a freezer until its put on the grill)

Wendy's "Expired meat" Is just meat that past the 4 minutes off the grill. The 4oz and 2oz patties are cooked for something like 2 min or 4 min. been a few years. Then it is put on station grills. The meat is considered Expired 4 minutes after leaving the dsg (dual sided grill) Once that happens it stands in a heated drawer for NO longer than one hour before being removed Chopped and Frozen to be used in Chili The same day or the next. We Never use meat that is past the use by date. It's a term for patties that are more than 4 minutes old. I've woken up two days later with nachos and beef in my fridge and still ate them. Ya'll need to Chill.

As a result, what should happen does not happen. To be fair this situation happens everywhere: medical field, law enforcement, judicial system, etc.

I worked as a manager for wendys for 2.5 years and can vouch for all of the processes. The information about the chili is partial and not exactly how it works. The patties are made on a grill that has a timer to track which patties are which and how long until they need to be put into a warmer. When the time runs out on the patties they are transferred to the warmer and are held there until there is enough for a batch of chili or 3 hours whichever comes first. The warmer is set high enough to keep the patties above the food danger zone. When it is time to make a chili or it is necessary to store the meat it is rinsed thouroughly with hot water to remove the fat and then ground up to be added to the chili or stored in day marked heavy duty ziploc bags for use the next day. If the manager can keep an eye on the employees and the employees follow their training the meat is usually used by the next day. And i can assure you at my restaurant we went through at least 2 batches of chili on a slow day and 3 to 4 batches a day during the winter and my store wasnt even that busy. So please anyone that has reached the end of this statement stop trying to look for the nasty and gross of the restaurants because most restaurant stories you hear is told by someone who had a problem with the place or someone who knows someone with a problem with the place. Keep your mind open.

We had to check every ingredients temp multiple times a day, put it in a form and sign it. At any random moment the food and health inspections could happen, and we could get closed immediately if something was very wrong. We once got a mark down because boxes of soda bottles was on the floor of our storage room. Nothing is supposed to be placed directly on the floor. Not at risk of being closed, but a thing we immediately had to fix. And our meat and veggies were local to our country so not the same stuff that is being sold in America. I worked at Wendy's for 8 years and made many many batches of Chili. Yes what you said is somewhat true but highly embellished. No meat is "scrapped" off the grill. The grill is all the time filled with juices so the meat should always be fresh. After it is finished cooking and not served on a bun then it is tossed in the pan for the chili. Most all the time their wasn't enough patties for the chili so more meat is cooked up and added to the pans. Water is added to the pans of chili and then boiled and drained.
The Chili needs to cook for some time in order for all the ingredients to "mesh" together. Otherwise freshly made chili will not taste too good. The best chili I ate was over a day old, I ate the hell out of it it was so good. YUM! The pans of chili are quite big and sits inside another pan with water underneath and the chili has lids over the top of them. for them to lose that much water out while cooking is unlikely because I very rarely ever recall adding water to the chili while at Wendy's. Now at home I do add water if I want it more watery. At wendy's everything is fresh, fresh red beef not frozen, fresh salad, and nothing is kept for very long except the chili. It has a timer and when the timer goes off it us thrown away. fries for example have a 5 min holding time.

4:59 - This makes me like their chili more. They aren’t wasting food. (I doubt they are literally using expired patties. Just not fresh enough for a burger.)
The longer you simmer chili or soup, the better the flavors meld. Heard of a crock pot? I’ve let them cook for 8-10 hours on low.
Adding water if it dries out isn’t so bad. That’s what you’ve lost.

Old comment but this just really highlights how many people don't know how to cook or how things work. Given that Wendy's often has their chilli pot open (for serving, string, lid design, etc) of course it's going to thicken because all that water is going to evaporate as steam without any way of retaining it. In fact, people who can cook are able to play with sauce/broth/base thickness by simply adding or removing a cover during the course of cooking. But somehow, adding water to thin the mixture - like any sensible person would do at home if they bothered to cook - is suddenly scandalous.
Like you - I'm totally for this creative and beneficial use of meat. Not only does Wendy's consider their meat 'expired' if it sits for more than four minutes after cooking (hence not really expired), the style of the dish they use really works well with meat that's been made tougher (like storing/freezing for future use).
It's pretty depressing that people are so removed from their food that the act of repurposing meat in an economic and efficient way is seen as gross, or don't know simple things like why roast beef shines.

It is not a common practice for bread to be re-used for a table. If a place does that they are garbage anyway. Plus what the hell would chefs know about that? They usually don't serve that since it's a server or host job to set that up. Also said to avoid house salad because it uses simple ingredients that you could probably make at your home. First off....no shit. It's a goddamn salad, if you have lettuce in your fridge then you have it nailed down. Second, most people eat out because A. It's a special evening/vacation or B. You wanted a night off from cooking. If you're worried about a $3 salad don't eat out period. Also, I eat stuff like that at restaurants because there's a good chance they can still do a salad better than me at home. I don't know about fast food but the service industry gets a raw deal because of a few scumbag companies and managers. If there's a real problem it's probably wasted food, and I don't mean expired. After working for half a dozen restaurants I've seen more food thrown away than kept to get old in a fridge.
I like this channel but sometimes it's like they have a panel of experts and someone's douchebag cousin sitting in a room going over this. A few good facts then some hearsay bs, a few more facts and a bogus opinion.

Yea, but hot dogs are like 80% preservatives, so they're gonna be fine anyway. Generally most cooked food last for 7-10 days under refrigeration, after that you're supposed to toss it if you're a restaurant. So esentially every restaurant parbakes, or pre cooks most things and finish them off when they are ordered, keeps the food cost down because it takes longer to go bad after cooking. (less moisture, less bacteria, more salt and other natural preservatives.

Yep.. that's all true for McDonald's. I work there.. some food should be held for up to 45 minutes, but we hold it untill we sell it.. it's not the employee fault, it's the store manager, owner , and corporate faults.
    See
Employees are threatened with termination if they throw the food out, but they won't let us eat the food when it goes pass time, and they cut our work hours or days if we have to much food going to waistcan or left over at the end of the day( and they don't let us take that food home which we are clearly about to throw out to end the day).. as for the worms and maggots ,I have never seen them but if you are using food with flys around then it will happen. Fly eggs hatch in 30min to a few hours after being laid.( Meaning if you see maggots the the food is old) and everything you said about the machines are true to the core.. if it comes from a machine, don't buy it. And get all drinks with no ice are just buy whatever is in a bottle...
    This is true.
    I work at McDonald's..
All they focus on is speed and profit.. and don't care if your loving it.

'that's all true for McDonald's' - really you support that nonsense of live maggots when it's thin uniform patties being cooked to 155F and held at safe temps? Managers know more than you 'crew' employees about food safety. If they make their customers sick; they lose their jobs too. Get yourself some Serv-Safe certification, learn some shit and stop dissing your current employer because atm; you're not worth minimum wage.

And If you must know I said I HAVE NEVER seen maggots or worms, but I know that it can happen. And also the fish can have worms in it. Albeit they will be dead from being frozen and then fried. But if you know how they look then you will spot them if they are there.. and don't talk to me about safe Serv certificates. Just cause a person has one, does not mean they take what they learn and imply it to in store operations. All you managers are worried about is food cost, waist, speed, not getting a complaint and LABOR. Y'all just want a check. y'all don't care about cleaning anything untill the week of your
      C.s.o. are your f.o.r...
I bet you could not put your hand on a Bible and truthfully say that your ice machine has been cleaned in the last 30 days..not wiped down, I mean cleaned out.. and that's a shame because it is supposed to be sanitized once a week, cleaned once a week and detailed once a month. ( So if it has been more than 7days since the last time it was cleaned, how can you say it doesn't have slim and pink and black mold in it )..I might not be worth my employer having me, but the managers that work for him are in the same boat with me. if the food is bad it's the manager who should spot it before a customer because they should be doing a walk through every 30to40 min and it should include temping the food. but y'all don't do that, not to mention how you managers pen whip the food safety book.
Managers don't know shit.. all they know is bark out orders to crew, don't get a complaint and protect labor at 18to 19%..
So ATM shut tha fuck up..
I work there but they don't own me. I say what I want to say in line with free speech.. and I ain't one to be played with. So don't play with me.
I don't own McDonald's and I ain't going try to defend it... You can do that .. hope you get a promotion..
I don't care no more about it than the guy who owns it but don't even know who works for him. As long as we show up and work, he is good. And as long as he pay for the work we good... And just so you know I don't give a damn about working to make the next guy rich while he won't even give a proper raise to help off set the increase in the cost of living.. if we had a choice we would quit working for minimum wage because as far as the low class is concerned, minimum wage ain't worth our time.. it has not went up since Obama for more then 8years but the cost of living has went up every year. So it ain't like we making good money. If we get sick for more than 2days we won't have all the rent and bill money. But we still need to eat, travel, wash clothes, and take care of stuff other than bills. We work to pay bills and eat at work (how that sound), and Ware the same work shirt 2and 3days..
      Fuck minimum wage..

The inspections don't have any warning, and inspectors can waltz in at any given time, and not give the restaurants any time to prepare, leaving every restaurant practically scared into keeping it clean.

JESUS CHRIST the standards for McDonald's around the world must be pretty low...
I used to be an assistant manager at a McDonald's and let me reassure you that, at least in Canada, we literally had employees specifically trained to clean and maintain the entire shake machine and we would throw away anything that was expired, plus we'd have new products delivered 1-2 times a week to ensure they're actually served fresh. Also our coffee machines are a totally different process, my boyfriend used to work overnights there and he had to take the coffee machines apart to clean them, you'd get written up if things weren't up to standards.
Also the floor managers would actually check the meat temperatures before we started serving it to make sure it's cooked properly and we'd have to actually record the temps to AVOID those issues with bacteria and such, you'd get in serious shit if you didn't write the temps down or if you served food with low temps.
As for the chicken and fish, we're actually SUPPOSED to get rid of them after a while and we're supposed to only cook a specific amount depending on the time of day, the reason why the chicken and fish may "stay for a long time" is because sometimes the kitchen people would make WAY too much and they wouldn't throw it out when the timer went off, but thankfully they'd get in shit for it. Plus a lot of the stuff, mostly the breakfast stuff is pretty much the same shit you'd get at the grocery store, we used a lot of reputable brands. Not trying to defend McDonald's, it's still not the healthiest, but it's not the worst either. Oh well, I guess it depends on who owns the franchises and such.
However, I can definitely vouch for Subway being terrible. Trust me, my brother is a manager at one and it is FAR worse, upper management would give him shit for getting rid of expired food, he's actually considering reporting it to the health inspectors... Also Tim Hortons is just as bad, I have friends who worked there, oh and they don't use actual eggs there btw. Just so you know.
*Tl;dr McDonald's at least in Canada has ACTUAL standards that you'd get in shit for if you didn't follow them, Subway and Tim Hortons don't follow those standards and are FAR worse. Stay the FUCK away from the latter two.*

Absolutely sick and disgusting. Also seen employees use your hands just keep out ice. Also no employees to handle ice who I knew didn’t wash your hands ever even after using the bathroom. Are ringing out old dirty mops among other things. Even good restaurants have nightmarish things that go on in the background in many cases best that you don’t know what is actually happening to your dishes and some of the dirty rags and things are used to wipe the dishes if the machine does not get them completely clean. It gets pretty disturbing I asked to resign from one restaurant because it was so disgusting even though it was a better restaurant and overall it was pretty clean it was just certain things that were going on that were small but disturbing. Wouldn’t either tall other friends and family that if they knew what was going on in restaurants they wouldn’t eat in any of them probably. when i worked at jets i used to throw out stuff that smelled rotten but i was the only person that thought it was spoiled... even after smelling it they didnt think anything was wrong with it. Ppl r just so stupid. the tomatoes from the previous night smelled so bad you could bairly even tolerate a wiff of them but nobody thought that wasnt normal. I threw the stuff out every time even tho my manager who worked there for 18 years said they were fine.

As a Mc Donald’s employee I can tell you that company standards are very explicit, all foods are frozen till cooked and held in the warmers ONLY 30 minutes and have a strict holding temp to prohibit spoilage. At the end of hold time food MUST be thrown out. ALSO the ice cream and coffee machines are totally broken down and cleaned and sterilized weekly or more.

I used to work in a small family owned sushi restaurant, so I add sushi to the list. Even if a restaurant serves sushi all the time some of the fish might not be as fresh as you would hope for. Even if the restaurant is by the water the fish comes in frozen in bulk. There are times when the chef refused to sell something because it was freezer burned. He was one of the good ones. Other chef not so much.

YourDEAD sadly that’s not easy - you have to be so careful. I’ve noticed in Metro Vancouver, BC, there are so many grocery stores now, that I don’t think the stuff sold moves as quickly. It can be hard to find good produce. I think every trip I make to a grocer I end up finding a few things that have gone bad and I point them out to workers who try to say oh thanks but you can tell they’re kinda pissed. Meat can be hit and miss too. Gotta check dates. Sometimes we will ask butcher for an odd size or cut that they get one fresher from the back. I’ve tried to source locally and sometimes near holidays, if we have company coming I’ve gone to local farms to get things, even bacon and pork products. Milk and dairy too you have to watch. I’ve even found expired products at the front. I know they are trained for last in first out, but sometimes they take that too far. Never had too much of any problems though with non-perishables just have to watch stuff that’s supposed to be fresh !

I used to work at a Cookout fast food place. I can say our chili for the hotdogs and chili cheese fries and whatever you wanted it on, were made from burgers that either get dried up on the flat or were burnt from the flat. They’d chop them up, then put in in a metal pan on ice. We used that same meat to do prep pans of chili and use them in the beef quesadillas. And when the chili or chili’s that we’re in the heating we’ll got too thick, they would just add water to it too.

I WORK AT TACO BELL AND WE USE A HOT WATER THERM TO REHEAT THE MEAT FOR 30 MINUTES AND IT IS ALWAYS FRESH WE NEVER USE NON FRESH INGREDIENTS

    • @ashleyt5175
      @ashleyt5175 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I can vouch for this. I worked at a Taco Bell, anything that was expired was always thrown out even at the cost. The meat looks like that when it goes in because it's pretty chill before its put in the thermalizer. Much like when you put ground beef into the freezer, the fat solidifies and creates a whitish color. But once it's done heating (has to be a certain temperature before its served for safety reasons) its put into a clean metal pan and put on the line for use. If the time expires on it, it would be thrown away and the cycle would start again.

I remember a documented experiment where they tested chicken from Subway and it contained less than 40% of chicken. Their bread used to contain the same ingredient as yoga mats to give elasticity. They claim the removed the ingredient but I wouldn't trust them. Also when cleaning up at Subway where I worked the workers would have to soak containers where the food was in a chemical solution and no one ever rinsed them after. They were just left to dry. They rarely ever washed vegetables before chopping, depends on the employee.
