    Such a good series. In a world gone mad, these stories of current and impending human scientific progress, both in space and on Earth, are a breath of fresh air.

    • @Tormentality
      @Tormentality 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Isn't this just a SYMPTOM of a world gone mad? I mean, clearly, the our species doesn't care about itself, so this is clearly a waste of our time. I suggest the reason you find this a breath of fresh air is the same reason we enjoy video games and drugs and anti-depressants and fast cars and vacations... to escape the madness. If the world was not mad, we'd help our homeless, end the wars, feed all the countries and there would be no thoughts of escaping to video games or another planet.
      But then again, I'm with ya. Fuck the world.

      @@Tormentality dont @ me on this, but the general reason on why it's happening is simple and pretty clear: egoism, human brain is developed to protect his "shell", so we should live our lives to the best just in order to keep ourselves safe & happy, but not to help someone foreign one that's not connected to the brain. I'm not trying to be edgy and stuff but that thing is gonna kill us rapidly. though, humans are just a blink moment of hummingbird's wings movement. and that's kinda fine if we see this not from our perspective

    The next step should be to make the largest pressurised... well... space in space possible. With a way to dock with it. Then to add to it life support for water, air conditioning, electric, etc utilities. Just a hard, air-tight shell with lots of room in it and basic utilities. Real-estate in orbit.
    Right now the focus is on prefabricated, more or less self-contained modules with loads of little gizmos, but that's exactly what makes it expensive. You can't just go and build a factory and housing.
    To this end. The two things that makes EVA more dangerous than it needs to be are the chance that you can drift off into space, and that you are not shielded from the sun and other radiation. The simplest way to mitigate this is to just build a large sack of interlocking disks. Not pressurised in the least. Just a space within which astronauts cannot drift off without a way to manually get back, and which shields them from the worst radiation. It could even be interlocking hexagonal solar panels (cheap ones. Just loads of them). with all the wiring to make use of the electricity generated.
    It could be made quite large, relatively cheaply, and just be draped over a large rigid frame. And then a real pressurised space station can be built within it.

    I don't get the "retirement & de-orbiting" of the ISS...why not use the resources it already has up there to help construct and maintain the Axiom station?

    • @mrsuper7484
      @mrsuper7484 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every component has a lifespan, as does the hull. The station was intended to last 15 years (1998-2013) but was built to last 30 for safety reasons and is currently operational. Given the level of precaution used when in space it is too large of a risk to re-use much of what is there. It is safest to de-orbit modules one at a time and let them burn up over the ocean than risk an accident.

    you can't bring supplies up from earth . space citys have to rely on resources from space . then you have to have utilities plumbing , sewer , air , for each building in orbit city . you need to connect each building with a water and sewer hose . then keep it from frezzing

    Cutting out all public funding from space initiatives is the dumbest idea I've ever heard. The only way we push forward is through public-private collaboration. All other options are doomed to failure.

    The elephant in the room about living on the moon is the 14 days of night when the habitat is on the far side facing away from the sun.
    How could you keep life support powered up without solar panels receiving sunlight or a nuclear reactor?

    Since the original plans had the MT's going into orbit and NASA scrapped that only to throw them away, I find it difficult to trust them now. 136 shuttle launches could have had maximum 5 full wheel type space stations at this time.

    • @sterrre1

      Blue Origin flew, landed and reflew their suborbital rocket over 20 times. Landing is the hard part.
      When we go to space we need diversity. The more options and vehicles we have available the Bette our chances of success.
      Since the 80's we only used one vehicle, the space shuttle, and when that vehicle failed we failed.

    wont stuff on the moon mainly be underground? since like no atmosphere so you kinda want shileding from metoerites and radiation

    • @hazardous458
      @hazardous458 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WaffleSSSSSPLUS protecting against radiation is easy. Radiation shielding. Underground poses a lot of problem. Excavating, excavating ont he moon is currently not possible. You’d need a lot of funds, the ground might not be solid enough and it’ll waste a lot of time.

    • @WaffleSSSSSPLUS
      @WaffleSSSSSPLUS 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hazardous458 why is excavating a problem? also shielding is kinda hard since you'd need to use massive material from either earth or on the moon and if you're excavation material from the moon to use as shielding you might as well use the hold excavated as well. since gravity is weaker on the moon, retaining walls and other structural member can be light weight and be transported or manufactured on the moon more easily.

    • @hazardous458
      @hazardous458 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WaffleSSSSSPLUS And you’re just gonna bring a bunch of excavating vehicles with large drills, something to lay down reinforcements to the moon, stuff to clear the debris, billions of dollar just for the sheer weight of massive drill heads and vehicles. For what? To protect against some measly radiation?

    • @hazardous458
      @hazardous458 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WaffleSSSSSPLUS Do you know how radiation works? Moon dust won’t do jack against radiation. Just bring up some composite lead panels imbedded in the habitat. It’s that fucking simple. You don’t need a lot to protect against radiation.

    • @WaffleSSSSSPLUS
