    I recently discovered this video and I enjoy it so much. I'm 70 and was born in Johnson City. My dad got a better job in Florida so we moved when I was 3 and I still live in Florida. So many good memories of summer vacations there .....my grandmother lived on W. Maple and I remember walking to the Giant to buy groceries and to "town" to shop at Kings with her. A sandwich from the Shamrock and pizza from Henry's - I still remember those special treats. I haven't been back in several years . JC has defiantly changed . Thank you for rekindling some happy memories!

      No…. People get shot constantly downtown, we have a horrible homeless problem also the sidewalks have sh*t all over them (human and dog actually) and we can’t get the problem fixed because of all the whiney liberals.

    Yep, you captured quite a few of the homeless here. Here I am writing a year later (from when you posted this) and the homeless/street people has escalated so badly that there have been meetings to see what can be done - with bigger cities sending their homeless here and trying to clean up their places, they caused such an overflow here in JC that many services had to shut down as there are not enough funds to handle it. Poor people.

      Haha, there's hardly any homeless in Johnson City.. ..I mean seriously you have no idea obviously what it's like on the West Coast

    I lived in jc for 7 years and loved it. Unfortunately I had to leave to get away from an abusive relationship. I lived in the downtown area ( Montgomery and fairview) and never had any major problems. Sad to hear about the homeless situation. It was starting to get bad when I left.but I never had a problem with , I actually knew some of them by name. One thing I didn't see was pals.

    I lived in Johnson City and Gray from 1985-1997. Downtown has not changed much. Most of the growth that was occurring when I left was on State of Franklin between Market Street and Bristol Highway.

    Nice clean town. Why is there no foot traffic down town? Was everything closed at the time

      Well considering there's hundreds and probably thousands of "villages and towns"with a population of less then 10,000 Johnson City is actually a decent size city in the big picture...It's the 9th largest place in Tennessee it's not to bad of a size I actually think it's perfect imo...I live in a city with 20,000 people in the city limits and 40 in the county and it's plenty of big for me now my in law's live in a village of about 800 people I couldn't do that lol ..

    I currently live in Charlotte but my job has me working from home permanently now and I’m thinking about moving to Johnson City or Hickory since rent is getting expensive in Charlotte and I don’t necessarily need to be close to where I work anymore.

      It's a smaller town so I probably won't be covering any other areas outside of the downtown.

    • @justinh4583
      @justinh4583 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@MileageMikeTravels No, it's not. You barely even covered a third of Johnson City. The entire huge ETSU University area, the motor mile, the roan street restaurant stretch, the tree streets neighborhood, the large VA complex and hospital and medical buildings. There's considerably more to show than what's on this video.

    I love Johnson City and have a lot of nostalgia for the downtown shopping district from when I was a kid, but unfortunately this video concentrates on some of the ugliest, most rundown parts of the city. It certainly would scare off anyone thinking about moving here. To borrow a line from an old Bette Davis movie, "What a dump!"

    • @MURD3RDR0N3SFAN
      @MURD3RDR0N3SFAN 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the city, but the actual part with people living in it is a dump, amirite? Go drive through the residential 500k+ homes where you never see any sign of actual community
