Audrey, my husband and I live in Southern New Hampshire and we have been following you from the beginning of your hike. Hiking 1800 miles is a major accomplishment, one in which in my lifetime I will never achieve. Remember to enjoy the hike and don’t stress about the destination. The weather is what it is and life happens. It’s how we handle these curve balls that make us who we are. We are immensely proud of what you have already achieved. Keep pushing and know that we are all rooting for you. Enjoy the remainder of your hike through New Hampshire and Maine.🥾❤️

Audrey on the AT, what a journey you have shared. We, your audience, have watched and enjoyed your journey, in fact have watched you grow to be the person you are. Some interesting thoughts: learn to recognize your ego. It is always creating a story. In this case Katahdin is your egoic story. Recognize it. The AT is your journey. In some ways, it’s the same journey that Dorothy took on the yellow brick road. It helped her realize and recognize her “real essence”. When you click your heels go back to Kansas knowing that the journey was all that it could be. Be at peace! Thank you for allowing us to be with you.

Hey North Star... Perhaps an even greater summit than Katahdin is the summit of love and respect for you that you have created in an audience now approaching 6K subscribers. Many hiking vloggers have captured an audience. YOU have captured its heart!! And that's very rare. That summit dwarfs Katahdin, and you've already climbed it.
Katahdin or not, it is not possible for any of us to hold you in any higher esteem than we do now. And your character now shines forth with more brilliance than that of your namesake. 5.74K Audreyites are still with you all the way.
For these few remaining days before your deadline at work, I pray you will have peace in your heart, wisdom for your decisions and joy in each step you take. May God bless you as richly as you have blessed us.

Almighty and most merciful Lord, we humbly ask you, of your great goodness, to create favorable circumstances for North Star to finish her journey on time. Grant her fair weather and swift miles, hiked in safety and in your strength. Graciously hear our plea that, enabled by your power, North Star may summit Katahdin before having to return home for work, and that in so doing, you may be praised for your kindness and mercy. In your name we pray. Amen.

Your doing so good Audrey. I have had to learn, that Faith means letting go. Trusting enough to let go. You must have a very special heart ( you teach children) don't let it break. It's been what has got you where you are. Poles safely down Sweet Gal!!✌♥️

@tresannrn8454... Oh my, what a beautiful comment that transported me back to many of Dr. Charles Stanley's sermons where he said the same thing you did. That faith is not faith until we let go of dependence on our strength alone and rely completely on God. Or as Zechariah put it, "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord of hosts." Zechariah 4:6

Another nice video. 4 weeks to go. If you get into a time crunch skip to Shaw's and do the 100 mile wilderness and then summit. You could come back and fill in the gap on some weekends. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

Hey North Star... Can't sleep tonight. As Elvis would say, "I'm all shook up" over the awful possibility that you might have to return home to fulfill your teaching contract obligations before reaching Katahdin. So, in order to finish your journey, how about this for a plan? And remember, if you don't have a plan, someone else will have one for you.
Tell your school board and principal that I will go to your school and fill in for you on August 14 for open house and days following until you return. And I'll do it for free, although a free meal from the cafeteria would be nice, as long as it includes grits and sausage (I'm from SC, you understand). Tell them I am eminently qualified to work with third graders and their parents. Here are my amazing credentials:
I was once a third grader myself. Nearly every day I was the line leader. And my teacher said I was really a good kid. Also, I have two children of my own, and they were once third graders. Then there's church. I usually teach the adult classes, but once I had to fill in for the third graders' teacher. Scared the living daylights out of me, but I survived without any casualties.
So, there you have it, proof positive, that I'm abundantly qualified to fill in for you.
But seriously now, putting aside all these frivolous frivolities, all of us "Audreyites" want to see you see summit Katahdin BEFORE you return home. You could, of course, return later to make up the missed part and then summit Katahdin. But there is no feeling in the world like finishing a thru hike in one continual flow. You owe that to yourself after all you have accomplished so far. And our prayer is that God, the source of all miracles, will make that possible for you.

  • @mb692100
    @mb692100 ปีที่แล้ว +4

This comment is especially for potential future thru hikers. (Based on what North Star says at 13:01.)
When Benton MacKaye first conceived the dream of what would become the Appalachian Trail, thru hiking was not even in his thoughts. Rather, the trail was to be a refuge of healing, nourishment and rest from the "civilized" world. He envisioned it as a place of refuge where one could escape from the "civilized" lifestyle with its pressures and problems, its hurried and harried lifestyle, its worries and woes and its incessant and intransient demand on one's time. Especially time.
TIME. Perhaps the greatest freedom and emotional gift the trail can offer is the ability to control one's time schedule. To plan your own day and to do as you feel led instead of someone else telling you what to do and when it has to be done, is an unbounded and unbridled joy.
But that joy, which many hikers have learned the hard way, is shattered to pieces as one nears the end of the journey and realizes that a rigid and inflexible schedule to finish and return home to some obligation might necessitate the thru hike to be aborted before Katahdin. When that thought comes crashing down on a hiker, suddenly the happiness of the trail becomes hopelessness, the blessings are replaced by the burden of time and what had been a labor of love becomes just labor.
You can see it in a hiker's face, hear it in his voice and feel it from his heart. No obstacle that the trail can throw at a hiker will suck the very life out him and tear out the core of his heart like that of having to quit the trail before finishing in order to make it home on time for some obligation.
Please, if you're planning a thru hike, make step 1 the arrangement of your obligations post hike such that you can have some flexibility with the return date back home after Katahdin. If you can't do, think long and hard about whether you should go at all. Plan for a hike of six months, but more than that, make sure you have some reasonable control over your return date. That way you can end your journey with as much joy as you began.

Hey North Star... Mr. Miyagi is aware of your fall and injury and returns now to have a word with you.
    Here he is now:
Audrey-san... Most unfortunate Audrey-san fall down, get hurt. Have humble suggestion. Send hiking garb home. Dress like goalie on ice hockey team (no skates, however). Then Audrey-san can fall down, not get hurt.
Have humble proverb passed down from ancient ancestor. "No disgrace to fall many times in journey to reach goal. But disgrace to fall one time and quit journey."
Miyagi impressed with Audrey-san determination and endurance. Good example for Audrey-san third graders.

Hey North Star... So close, so very, very close!
It's hard to know how fast or slow to walk as you approach the end of such a massive journey. Do you run into the embrace of the finish, or do you move deliberately in each step, quieting your pace, taking time to look back once more at the narrow tail that just accompanied you 2,198 miles? And how do you hold yourself when the massive weight of what you've just done, puts two firm hands on your shoulders and whispers, "You can be done now... You can rest your weary legs?"

Inventive maneuvering around the mud trail. Admirable adaptation. Accolades for successfully transversing nature’s muck and mir. Hoping your arms are better. Wishing you peace, safe passage, good fortune ahead and a scheduled finish. Happy Trails!

Fellow hiker who experienced some of those difficult conditions. Per the ATC, you have 365 days from your start date to complete the trail for an official thru hike. A lesson the trail taught me this year is that there are many methods, besides the one you had in your mind, to achieve your ultimate goal. Think about your ultimate goal and then explore your options. Remember, it is YOUR goal and you already have so much for which to be proud. We are all enjoying watching your journey and want you to be safe above all else. Happy Trails!

But the hiking now begins in earnest, with long steep climbs/descents, flooded trails and more rocks and roots. Travel well, Audrey, and please keep us posted on your adventure. Be well, stay safe and always remember, It's the journey, not the destination - traveling is better than arriving. We all hope you will finish, but there is something much more important than finishing. It is that you keep your heart filled with joy and come back in one healthy piece. If you finish, it will be grand, if you do not finish, your students have learned much and will learn a great deal about handling disappointments. My prayers are for better weather, and lots of speed. Whether you finish or not, no one can take away the beautiful gifts you have given us by sharing your heart. And your hike. Be well, be safe, be joyful. Wet feet are miserable. This has been a very difficult hiking year because of the unusual weather which has broken mini records all over the world. 🎶 🌈 🌟 13:59

My question is why the week gap between the hike and posting to you tube?

Maybe because she lives in the woods and has to edit videos. Maybe also she doesn’t want people to keep track of her location.

Nasty looking scrape! A doctor once shook his head emphatically and told me to change to Bacitracin when I told him I'd been putting Neosporin on a wound. It did work much better. The neo seems to give me a mild rash which he noted immediately and I thought was just part of it healing.

Oh, gracious Lord, maker of all things, and the source of all love and mercy,
hear our plea, dear Lord, for North Star.
You, Lord, are the only true god, the god of all power and control over your creation. You are the god of all miracles for you are the Sovereign Lord, and we are totally dependent upon You for all things. Your Word says of You, "In whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind." We are in your hand. North Star is in your hand. Her school administrators are in your hand. We acknowledge our dependence on You and your Sovereign control over all mankind and all situations.
Lord, You can do anything you choose. You parted the waters of the Red Sea and blocked the waters of the Jordan River for your people to cross on dry land. You led your people through the wilderness for 40 years, guiding them with a cloud by day and fire by night. You transformed your enemy, Saul of Tarsus, into the Apostle Paul, who gave his life to spread your Word. You, by your resurrection, defeated sin and death that we might live with You forever. And each of us, Lord, is a living miracle of a transformed life, and each of us has experienced miracles from You to sustain us in our daily lives.
Dear Lord, help North Star to complete her journey before having to return home. She faces a seemingly impossible task to do that before her classroom obligations take effect. But You, Lord, are Sovereign and control all things.
North Star has honored You in her journey. She has acknowledged You and has expressed her faith in You. She has been feeding on quotes that reveal her dependence on You. Her heart is broken because time is running out to summit Katahdin before her contracted teaching date.
Consider, Oh Lord, what an inspiration she has been to us and her students. Allow her to summit before returning home. Allow her to touch the sign on Katahdin and give You Praise and to honor what You did. Do that, Lord. Do it for her. Do it for those third graders. Do it for us. But most of all, do it for You, that many may see that You are the God of all miracles and that Your name may be praised.
And so, Lord, hear our plea, we pray.
Cause North Star's school administrators to be aware of her situation. Create in their mind a favorable disposition to make it possible for her obligations to be met while she finishes her journey. Lead someone there to be her advocate to the board and principal. Help them to see what it will mean to those third graders to see her finish, to witness a miracle, and to know that You answer our prayers.
And thank you, Lord, for your precious Word.
Encourage North Star with your promise in it that says, "The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." May your promise that says, "Acknowledge him in all thy ways, and he shall direct thy paths," sustain and strengthen her. And in her darkest moments, may You be the unseen hand that holds her close to You and whispers, "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
This is our prayer, gracious Father, but above all, may Your will be done, for we pray in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
    Amen

Hey North Star... PLEASE!! For you and us, call your school board and appeal your contract dateline situation. I understand your contract date is like the law of the Medes and Persians, inflexible and set in stone, and many would say that it is impossible to alter it. But you used two quotes at 13:22 that reveal you depend on God in every situation, and that includes the impossible situations as well. So, why not trust Him for the "impossible" altering of your contract date of August 14. Remember, we're told: "You have not because you ask not."
Indeed, as you said, "Let go and let God," and remember that He is the God of the impossible. If He can part the Red Sea and block the Jordan River for Israel to walk across on dry ground, can he not change the mind of your school board?
Oh, my soul, if only there were a "hot line to heaven" so you could talk to Dr. Charles Stanley and hear him say: "Audrey, never mind that altering your contract date is impossible. Make that call. The impossible is God's part. The call is your part."
Do it, North Star, make that call. Try. Do it for yourself so you can finish in peace, not pressure. And do it for us. But most importantly, do it for God. Give Him a chance to demonstrate to all of us all that: "..greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." 1John 4:4
But, if you won't call them, give me the number and I'll call them. And the first thing I'll say is this:
You have in Audrey a teacher who has, through her journey, inspired, taught and encouraged her students in ways that would never have been possible in a classroom setting alone. That is invaluable. Work with her to alter her return date so that the finish of her journey will be the capstone to that inspiration. Those kids need that!!
