    Alfa Romeo has a reputation. You probably know what it is. Thing is, if you apply your assumptions to the latest Giulia, you’ll probably come out wrong in most ways. Mark talks you through why that is…

    I've had mine for almost five years now and it (still) puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, definitely the best car I've had so far. I find it decently comfortable, and even so it's worth the trade off for its amazing dynamic abilities.

    • @gvladm

      @@Senninha1960 no, not really, the chassis feels balanced enough to handle aggressive driving without much intervention from the assistants. In terms of playfulness and hooliganism, my 1 Series does it better, but that's the only thing where it has the edge. Also, apparently, the assistants have reduced intervention in Dynamic mode.

    I've had my Alfa for about 2 years now. Honestly, the muted exhaust got to me in week 2 and I changed it to a straight pipe. It's very throaty like how it should've come from factory. Of course I changed the intake as well and tuned it. Now it does car noises that always puts a smile to my face. But of course, at the end of the day, it drives so good and comfortable even on sports mode. I wouldn't trade it for anything else, except maybe for a quadrofoglio

    I just returned a Guilia to the rental company after a week while my 2019 330i was in the body shop for a minor repair, so I can do a direct comparision between the 2 cars . The Alfa is a litfle faster, and the handling really is quicker and more direct than the BMW. An absolute blast to drive. However, the 330i is just better at everything else- seats, interior, materials, etc. But I can see the other side...

      Understand there are three different seat options on the Alfa's:
      1. Base (Base/Sprint/Sport/Ti)
      2. Sport (Ti Sport/2022Veloce/Extrema)
      3. Lusso (Ti w/Package)
      I much prefer the Sport seats ribbed texture and proper bolsters to keep me snug thru the twistys and they also look much higher end than the Base. On the interior: Most are spec'd standard. However, there is an optional Leather interior package(which includes leather dash/doors/ect...w/stitching), and a Carbon package that replaces certain pieces with carbon fiber. The interior of an Alfa spec'd with both is stunning.

    • @DomSchiavoni
      @DomSchiavoni 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zeppkfw from what I've seen in my recent 2month search(bought a 21Stelvio TiSport w/Leather&Carbon fiber package) is the interior design has remained the same throughout all years. Same Italian leather seats. Same steering wheel & aluminum shifters. Same control buttons. Just an update to the plastic material which is subtle and you def wouldn't notice if coming from an older less lux vehicle. What's potentially more important IMO is whether the particular car has the Leather package or not. This replaces many of the plastic areas with stitched leather. Sit in a 2018 with leather package and you'd think it was nicer than a 2020 without.

    This was a great review. As an owner, I think it was very honest about its strengths and weaknesses. I think he missed a negative though, which is the difficulty in leasing these compared to the German versions. For a number of reasons the alfa lease number always look bad compared to their German counterparts.... didn't stop me though... Nobody compliments an a4 or 3 series at a gas station they're ubiquitous and find a way to blend in where as the Alfa stands out.

    the chassis Giorgio is capable of plug-in hybrid and electric: the Maserati Grecale has the same chassis. Other than that, the interior quality is very very good, in pair with the most blasonate rivals: it just matters a lot how do you configure it! It's like being in charge of your own, comfortable, saloon-based rollercoaster. It looks amazing, has a stereo system that keeps you driving around just to hear the next song, and shifts effortlessly, especially in dynamic mode. I know this is a review of a more recent version of the car, but I paid £17k for mine and it actually seems a bargain, if I say I agree with 95% of this review. Just brilliant!

    With 16,000 very enjoyable miles on my 2019 Giulia, I got my first taste of Alfa quirkiness this week. Dead battery. I went on You Tube- lots of owners reporting the same problem. The happy news is some report their cars seem to run fine after the batteries are recharged. Others report having to resort to regular use of a trickle charger to keep their batteries up. I picked up a charger at Harbor Freight. Time will tell.

    To add to the argument as well, the Giulia is SIGNIFICANTLY more reliable than every single other option mentioned in this video other than the Stelvia. Funny enough, the Volvo S60 is the worst reliable of the bunch. Every reliability rating that's been given to every car in this list has the Alfa at the top. Don't get me wrong. It's not a Toyota or a Honda or anything. But repair costs were like 1/3rd of BMW and 1/7th of Audi or Mercedes. 😂 Idk why this myth of them being unreliable came from.

That's exactly the kind of car I want to be one of the first to use electronic brakes, so when the electronics slowly fail one day, the person is left wondering where that giant emergency brake was supposed to be. I wouldn't even buy electronic brakes from a Japanese brand and you're telling me to trust an Alfa a few years down the line!!!!?????

    I’ve always though the Giulia was boring looking and had a bad interior for the quite high prices. At least it’s got red seats. The Tonale is much better. It’s a shame not not of Alfas 5 year plans in the last 15 years have worked out. Hopefully Stellantis can get it working.

      It is by no means an uncomfortable car..quite the opposite…it just takes a little while to adjust to the seats…in my first weeks of owning the giulia..I found the drivers seat a little uncomfortable on a long journey….roll on two years now and I find the car brilliant on long journeys…no pains or aches and just a fantastic drivers car…

    But it’s boring! They’ve made it so Germanic, like Citroen did with their C5, I rejected a Veloce 280 for a Scirrocco R in 2018. Didn’t regret my decision once. The steering was neutral, the power delivery was smooth but my R was lairy.

    Alfa? Not if it’s my own money. There’s a reason the Germans and Japanese have done so well. And the Koreans are coming in strong.

    • @profemeritus534
      @profemeritus534 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      And that reason is mainly political economy. The Germans call it Deutschland AG, the Japanese keiretsu, the Koreans chaebol. Once you learn too much about these schemes you'd much rather support the Italian maffia as the underdog against the big syndicates. Success of mass market automotive brands have little to do with their actual technical details, it's mostly about how much materials and added value you can offload from an economy at the highest profit margins possible.

      You should inform yourself instead of sticking to think like the mass.
      There are plenty of sources that show that Alfa is not better or worse than its european competitors. Japanese are the ,,best".
      And never put germans and japanese on the same level. Its an insult for the japanese.

    I liked your review a lot! Since 2016 I wanted a Giulia Q..but with all wheel drive...so I waited untill 2021...I ended up buying a veloce Q4 and with a new exhaust and a remap most negative things you stated (on which I agree on as well) could be removed:) sound and acceleration improved quite a bit! I am very happy with the decision. If you want check out some hobby pov driving videos on my channel:) greetings from Switzerland🦫🏁🇨🇭
