When you apply chain cleaner, it can eventually damage or make the inner side of the rear wheel sticky. Therefore, it's better to cover the wheel before applying cleaner and lube. Alternatively, you can find a good spot to apply the chain cleaner or lube in the chain. The suggested spot is the gap that exists between the rear wheel and the engine.
It's important to remember that cleaning your chain while starting the bike can be dangerous and cause you to lose your fingers. So, be careful. The suggested way to do it is by putting it in neutral and manually rotating your rear tyre anticlockwise while applying chain cleaner or lube.
