Chris is a really cool guy and I am glad to count him as a friend of mine. Its really hard to explain what Chris does for other unhoused people in our city, he helps build a community and make people feel like they have people who care about them. I have met dozens of unhoused people in Hawthorne and all of them have a story about how Chris has helped them out and done right by them.
@Russell Scott I do know Chris, I work with Street Watch LA and am the person who introduced Mark to him. Unfortunately I live in a tiny apartment about 10 blocks from Chris and we really don't have any more room in our place for another person. Also Chris doesn't want to crash in someone's living room, Chris wants the city to leave him alone so he can live his life. Chris has been unhoused for over 7 years now, while I don't fully understand it he has adjusted to life outside. My hope and prayers are that if Chris ever got the love and support from his city his goals might shift from "please stop hurting me" to "I would like help to get housed." But its Chris's life, and he really isn't hurting anyone, he actually helps a ton of unhoused people by teaching them and protecting them. If he wanted to spend the rest of his life living in a tent on the side of the tracks helping folks who ended up next to him I would consider his life a powerful testament to love.
This man is totally right and self aware everyone can't work some people have mental and physical Disabilities especially people coming from prison but they LOVE to call us LAZY! There are no options out here.
He seems like a nice man and a good neighbor. I don't know what he did in the past, but with a prison record, you can't get an apartment let alone a job usually. I think he wishes for a home, a job, and a girlfriend. Just to have a basic life like anyone hopes for. He is smart to be out in the wasteland instead of on a sidewalk or park where people are trying to use it for recreation. That is why the police are leaving him alone there for now. Recycling is a good job. He kind of has a recycling business as it is with enough to support himself and some others too. You could stock a second hand shop with all the nice things you find in trash. Flea markets don't look at your record if you want to sell there or on ebay.
So true what he said “Everyone remembers the bad things & no one ever remembers the good you do . Man the heart break you see in the people you interview when you ask them what their 3 wishes are. As if they haven't allowed themselves to hope for anything more than to wake up tomorrow and not have too much difficulty getting what they need to survive for the day. It's such, a beautifully sad moment for them. Keep on keeping on, Chris.
People are people and people are homeless for various reasons , good or bad or whatever the case it may be, they are still members Of society, they need support and help not criticism and stigmatism, . Lots of respect for this people who try to do the right thing under very stressful situations💛🧡💚🌈
I’m not sure you even realize how important these videos are for us to see. your comments about things like there’s no trash pick up in the areas homeless are living things that I don’t think of that are important for me to know and be able to use in a conversation with others. These tid bits of information really help.
Thanks Mark. I enjoyed this interview with a stable sounding, homeless man. Wish their were more facilities, resources, etc. Ideally a roof over their heads.
The city should be paying him to do this. He is improving the community and doing the job of our city workers for almost free. Deserves fair pay for doing the same job.
Thanks for sharing these stories of homelessness. One thing I gathered is: the less you own, the less you desire. And when you don’t have much, you max it out and makes the best out of it. Most people being interviewed agree that homelessness isn’t the best way of living for anyone. Though not every homeless person is as good as this guy, the majority are. But the competition in big cities nowadays makes it really hard to get housing, and like what Chris said in this video, bad histories do scare people away and most people like to play safe than risky. I hope these videos reach more and more people and society can show more understanding to some of these kind hearted homeless people. Some of them made mistakes in the past, some are not by choice, but as long as they are willing to change their situation and don’t cause harm to other people, they deserve to be treated like a human being and given a chance.
When i was 25 i was such a brat. I hatet my mom for purchasing me an appartement. I did not want nothing to do with it because it was too far away from the people and the drugs( which was her intention OBVIOUSLY). She really did everything she could because she had no time for me when i was a child. She had to work so much. I made her guilty for my addiction again when i was older but now i know that i was really lucky to have a loving caring mommy that she really is. I am clean now for years and adore my little appartement which is all alone mine soon. I just want to tell some parents here that your childs are searching and struggling so much. They cant carry all that shame and guilt all the time , so they have to give it to you or someone else for a little while untill they understand that it is in their shoes to change their lifes. They might need your help even if they seem to hate you therefore at the moment , they will love you much more later and be thankfull after suceeding. Never let your children down please.

Recycling other people’s crap is how I made my way up. I wasn’t homeless, but I was getting there. I still have that $1000 invested and I never forget how my portfolio has grown to tens of thousands compounded, along with other recyclable stuff and money I’ve worked for. My opinion on the alleged land of the free has diminished since I started following this channel it's an absolutely horrendous country unless you earn big money
I'm Disabled, a Veteran, and have been homeless for two years. I'm not a drug addict, just lost my housing two years ago when the Apartment Complex I was living at was sold to a buyer in Toronto, who promptly notified the tenants living with Section 8 or VASH assistance was given the option to move out or pay full market value rent. I found while looking for a place to move to, that most low income housing was eliminated in this same fashion by greedy investors. I bought an old van on payments and was forced to start living in it. I did so for a year and was offered a tiny fiberglass trailer on payments. I found that the person I bought it from had mislead me on a clear title, and have had difficulty getting it registered and legal to tow. I have been stranded at a Recreation Area, above Kingman Arizona for seven months now trying to get repairs done to my van. It is no longer safe to drive, and definitely not suitable to tow my trailer. It has been a living hell, upto 128 degrees at times this summer, now dealing with freezing cold at night and heavy winds. Every time I try to get some repairs made, something comes up. I bought a used generator which failed in a couple weeks, had to buy another one, then my emotional support dog Archie was badly bitten and required veterinary care, my air conditioning compressor failed in my Van, I cut my knuckle to the bone and ligaments on some glass discarding some trash which resulted in an Emergency Room Visit. I have been trying to get help, and have not much success. I was accepted for Rapid Rehousing through the Catholic Charities, but have searched all over Mohave County but found I cannot afford an apartment on my disability income. I am now in a panic as I was notified by the Catholic Charities Caseworker handling my information, had their computer stolen and now my personal information has been compromised. I am on a waiting list for Section 8, basically started over. I did not choose to be in this homeless situation, and have been doing my best to deal with everything I have experienced the past 2 years. I had to literally give everything I owned away when I lost my apartment EVERYTHING!, I did try and keep my many tools, but those to were lost by a "friend" who was going but keep them until I get settled, but would never respond to my calls or texts. I am absolutely sick of my life. I don't live anymore, I merely exist, and it's not much of an existence. I have not showered in nearly 8 months, and haven't bathed in over two years since losing my apartment. I have reached out to every VA organization or service center for help, but am ineligible. I served 6 years in The Air National Guard, and was honorably discharged, but still don't meet the requirements as I was on active duty for well over a year with Avionics Technical School, and was activated during Desert Storm, but could not deploy with my unit, as I was a 3 level technician straight out of school. I have no family for support, no friends, only a few people I have met while being homeless. I have had a fellow vet brings some water bottles and food items several months back, but I don't see how I can ever get out of my situation as my limited income doesn't suffice...
I was a vet rep for a California County for many years. The ´´90 days active duty with one day in time of war´´ rule screws a lot of Guard and Reservists. Basic and Tech school doesn´t count. Sorry to hear. My advice is to ´´back door´´ the problem. Get an audiology exam for C+P. Claim Tinnitus from service. If you worked avionics, you were exposed to flightline noise for sure, you have lost a little hearing from it (I was ATC radio in the AF for 7 years) you should get a 10 percent rating. Then the full measure of VA benefits are open to you. As soon as you apply for the compensation, call you congressman - really BLOW UP the phones. You will get approved.
@@ananda_miaoyin thank you for your advice. I have spoken to Arizona Dept Veteran Service. Someone there told me the same. They found a local place to get a hearing test and check for tinnitus. I scheduled an appointment, did the test, and do have a loss if hearing in higher frequencies, and told there was no cure for Tinnitus by the doctor administering the test, he has had it most of his life.
@@darrelldixon9044 Good deal. Now file a comp claim. Your exposure to damaging noise is a matter of record in the AG. You should not have too many problems. Did you do your avionics at Lowry, by chance?
@@ananda_miaoyin a claim was started, no idea the status, the results of my hearing test were faxed to the person working on it, but have not heard anything, only been a few weeks. I was at Fairchild AFB, deployed to Japan, Sacramento, Wisconsin, Alaska
I was also a Civilian at the Base simultaneously, from my senior year of High School, for ten years, minus the year I was on leave for Military Training.
I agree with this guy. I dumpster dive and look for cans and bottles as well. I'm not homeless. I receive a disability pension. Doing these things help to pay for what I need because 768 dollars a month is not enough. I got to the hotels here for cans and bottles. Blue bin/recycling night is the best night for getting my bulk of cans and bottles. I also go through regular trash ,black bin night, because so many people don't bother to recycle.
Hey isnt that grandpa from that camp in St louis Missouri. He took off in the night. Was it 'Camp Hope,Sacred Harbour" He was in Vietnam & has lung cancer. I was wondering how he was doing. Does anyone know or remember??thank you.
The concept of materialism has reached a dead end. If capitalism continues to develop, the whole Earth will collapse. Those who have not yet gone mad and do not give in to the firmware of the system, understand that nothing is so inexpensive as the warmth of the human soul. Thank you for making these videos.
I wish these bakeries, buffets and restaurants that throw out the food at the end of the day would just place it all nicely in a clean tied off garbage bag at the top of the dumpster instead of making it hard for people to get it out. That would really help these people. Having decent clean food to eat means so much in terms of being able to think clearly and find a place to live. Bread that isn't even more than a day old, they won't give it away, but would rather throw it out. I have seen these things and talked to store owners who said they would rather do this than be sued. This country wastes like 75% of the food and there are people who need it all around.

I have met dozens of unhoused people in Hawthorne and all of them have a story about how Chris has helped them out and done right by them.
Russell Scott “Friends” does not necessarily mean overnights! I’d just rather talk with those living in conditions like his!
Thx for the great interview!
Respect to this guy
God bless this honorable man
He seems like a nice man and a good neighbor.
In other parts of the world, a person like this would live with his extended family than end up living in the street.
One of the best videos I've seen so far.
Thanks.
He sounds like a nice guy sad unfortunate things happen to the nicest people
So true what he said “Everyone remembers the bad things & no one ever remembers the good you do . God Bless all of you 🙏🏻💞 and Mark for what you do ...more people’s eyes should be open to this ...it’s an atrocity that any person is sleeping on the streets ...any one of us could be there right now or tomorrow..just love one another people & help one another we are all in this life together...
Yes, very true. As if they don't even dare to dream.
People are people and people are homeless for various reasons , good or bad or whatever the case it may be, they are still members Of society, they need support and help not criticism and stigmatism, . Lots of respect for this people who try to do the right thing under very stressful situations💛🧡💚🌈
God Bless You Chris 🙏💕
I hope these videos help the homeless. Thank you for the awareness.
One man's trash is another man's treasure

@Son Roby I wish they would. I wish I could.

Me 2! I really wish!
Do u have homeless people like that in Italy?
God bless you sir🙏. I have a lady friend who's a widower and she recycles to make money 💰 for her rent each month. Keep up the Good attitude 👍

He seems to do a lot more to people for someone who has so little than most of us who have been blessed with so much.. god bless this man;

There's enough money in this world for every human to live well of. No one needs 100 million in their bank account let alone a billion. 🤣🤣
If you share all that money it would solve not even one week of humanity problems.
The answer is on teaching how to fish not on giving the fish to anyone. It is nice if you give them a fishing rod though... until they get theirs..... lol...lol..
You could divide up all wealth in the world evenly, in 6 months you would have rich and poor.
Not everyone can handle money. Just because you give them money doesn’t mean they won’t blow it on drugs/alcohol/stupid shit. Simply put, giving a lot of them money wouldn’t change anything. Their mental has to be changed first.
@@XBlakeFreemanX dumb. he didnt say no money.but people like bezos and musk having 100s of billions to buy gold plated hot tubs is stupid. the whole class system is stupid. its always the most important people like soldiers or teachers or grocery store workers who end up homeless. let me some it up. if you took every celeb right now and gave their money to less fortunate, the world would be better and new celebs would replace them. if you took every soldier and doctor,no one would replace them. todays generation dont want to fight for their country.people aged 30 and younger have the lowest rate of wanting to fight for their country ever. everyone wants to be the next ariana grande or james charles. eventually America will be screwed.no one will join the army because of how our next generation and future generations are, and countries like china and russia that have alot of people who beg for the chance to fight for their country, will bully us around. Trump only keeps america afloat because of his ego. biden is too weak. once trump is gone in 4 years the next guy will be a bernie sanders or biden type. weak and wants to end police and army. america is in trouble. by letting apps like youtube and tiktok tell our kids they need to be the next dixie amelio or theyre a failure, we have lost the true american values that built our amazing country from the ground up while fighting off french, german and English invasions. god save us.
We need equal opportunity. We cannot rely on corrupt government to save the day.
Dude is tight and respect this man. 💯
Why do we have so much hate in our country? Edit** I wonder how much more homeless are contributing to recycling than housed people are?
That is a fact, Sara. This is a theme I am very much interested on.
Many of L.A's recycle places have closed down. When the CRV container refund places were plentiful several years ago, my experience was that 40% of the customers were homeless, but they brought at least 75% of the material.
@My Old VHS Tapes that’s awful. I know people where I live that make their living from collecting junk on the side of the roads. They really know how to strip an engine down etc and part out cars to get money from scrap metal. Or pick up our garbage day evening of and recycle it. When I heard a homeless man going through my recycling one night, I started hanging my cans and bottles on the side of the bin.
The people on this channel never fail to inspire me.
Very nice interview… I’ve been a big recycler for years, even before it started to be collected in neighborhoods across the US and started to be fashionable!!! That is good that he does that, and as he was saying, gives him a purpose. He seems like a good guy, even though he was in jail for whatever he did… I missed or think that you or he didn’t say where this was that?! Thank you very much.
Recycling is great!!! I recycle. We should all recycle.
try to find a new camp spot, under the towers is bad for you physically, causes cancer in some people.
brand new stuff. unopened. i believe it.
He’s homeless and takes care of others. God bless him. I’d love to recycle together
Am glad there aren’t any ads!
We should talk and greet each other! We don’t have to know each other to be good and lovable!
Invisible people, i admire ur point of view about chris ..so thruthfull..i wish people like chris that someday would b given a chance to get a descent job for him to survive and for him to keep continueng to help others.
Good luck Chris, you have a calming, charming personality!

I m sorry for this guy...america become harder to her own people... As it said " a mother of all possibilities"...
Is that so ???
He would do really good with working with Good Will. They hire people with records. They also help people with home ownership.
Just because your rich doesn’t mean your not poor
I'm glad I found this site.
I see an honest guy, proud to do things the best he can. It's too sad he's not allowed to do more because of his records.
Yeah but he didn't say why he did prison time.
The good really do die young. Because evil destroys them.
Recycling other people’s crap is how I made my way up. I wasn’t homeless, but I was getting there. I’ve accumulated over $1000 in one of the first few years, and invested the crud out of it (along with working 4 jobs to survive). I still have that $1000 invested and I never forget how my portfolio has grown to tens of thousands compounded, along with other recyclable stuff and money I’ve worked for.
It adds up, and kudos to this man.
Those are people who know what God is and what heart is for .
May God bless them .
I wish I could help these people. all of them. they aren't bad people. some have just fallen on hard times, but they are HUMANS just like all of us and sometimes they just need a helping hand.
COOL VIDEO THX FOR SHARING
4:02 - 4:04 "Everybody remembers the bad but nobody remembers the good" - Chris is right. It's true. It seems as if we're a society where no one wants to look at the good things in life. It's all bad stuff. That is not a way to live.

Its tragic really how many ppl is poor, and many ppl dont have life skills cz of many resons
this guy is not kidding about what people throw away. what he does is part of what i do for a living. i have made $1,000 from people's trash in the last few months. musical instruments, vintage toys, decor, etc.
If his situation was different he’d be a success 🙏

I admire what he is doing
Just here to let someone knows that Jesus saves, " He who believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life" Amen

@@Jj-gi2uv The food is perfectly good. You should see the stale and expired food they serve the homeless at soup kitchens.
Can you do a follow up with Carey Fuller?
