A huge amount of sanity being talked by a man with a mad haircut. Love this.

I first watched this clip when I was about 10 years old as a bonus feature on Tommy's DVD, I was infatuated by the character but he passed into memory for a long time.
It turns out I ended up studying John's book 'Spectrum' for my Leaving Cert in 2013 without realising it was the same man.
In 2018 I am now entering my final week of lectures of an English Literature degree after being on a long winding road here and have just rediscovered the soul who was guiding me all along the way.
R.I.P John Moriarty. The most influential teacher I ever had but never knew ❤️

I'm so grateful to the person who uploaded this, and grateful to Tommy Tiernan because if i wasn't watching his videos on youtube, i wouldn't have known an amazing man like John Moriarty. I've been struggling with my own faith and beliefs lately, and john helped me a lot to reach a peaceful state of mind, and i'm not a Christian i'm a Muslim, so that says so much about John's profound wisdom. Thank you dear fellow human for putting this video out there :)

He mentioned Sufism in a few of his books and Islamic mystics, but it's been a while since I read his books. Hope you're well in these strange times 👍

It was such a shame he didn't stay with us a bit longer. It's so sad the lack of teachers and characters of John's mighty spirit we lack in Ireland these days.

I met John in Connemara as I was running around Ireland in "86 and over the years we spend countless hours sitting by the fire talking.

Oh wow such truth he speaks.
He took a journey in life that I would not dare dream of.
It's so wonderful getting to know his written words and listening to his talks whilst trying to understand his philosophy
there is an old Irish proverb
sense doesn't come without "before " age.

I love this interview...I had never even heard of John Moriarty before until i watch it as it was an extra on Tommy Tiernan's ''ok baby'' and I can watch it over and over again and each time feel inspired, knowledgeable and fresh minded on what life is really about. Everything John says is totally true(imo)-really rings home to me. Really seemed like a very warm, friendly intelligent, unique and magical individual. Wish I could have been as lucky as Tommy Tiernan to have gotten to meet him!! :)

His talks are meditative and his wisdom profound, his books are very philosophical and mythological which take a little deconstructing, but he is, in my opinion, a much neglected progressive thinker. I'm a great follower of his work and teachings. I'm delighted you've found him. 😊😊

I have long heard about John Moriarty but this is the first time I have encountered him. What a deep and magical being. One of the old Celtic prest types of character, a bit like Canon Angus MacQueen on Uist who is as much "pagan" (i.e. "country dweller" as distinct from imperialist) as Catholic. Thanks for having made and posted this video.

  • @sijm165
    @sijm165 11 ปีที่แล้ว +7

If it was not for this posting I would not have found an interest in Moriarty's thinking, poetry and philosophy. As I've written in previous comments, there are a few people I would reserve the word 'genius' (in my area of theological philosophy) Kant, Wittgenstein, Cupitt; I would honestly place Moriarty very close to them. His book 'Dreamtime' is brilliant and intellectual, the way he weaves myth, philosophy, theology with a vision of how (wo)man can once again reconnect with nature.

There are all these monkeys on a branch trying to bend shadows with the delusional expectation of some inner change. Inner transformation takes courage, resolve and a resolute spirit and in so doing we transform the world - it's overwhelming wickedness, fear, greed, anger and foolishness to courage, wisdom and compassion based on profound respect for the dignity of life - showing what is delusional to be out of whack. "So rich is nature, that nothing it loses is a loss to it." Now if only human beings, and perhaps monkeys too, could be the same. Ashes, to ashes, dust to . . . . . the wind whistles by and the clock ticks . . .
