If you have been watching my videos, you'd know that Captain America has been one of the biggest holds in my action figure collection. Today, to determine which Steve Rogers should cap off my collection, we are pitting the original 2002 Series 1 Marvel Legends version against the recent 80 Years Cap and the all-new 2022 20th Anniversary Collection version. Place your bets, it's time for another VERSUS!

The 20th anniversary cap, actually looks like Matt Salinger from the 1990 Captain America movie.

I do dig the new 20th anniversary Cap but the holes in the eyes definitely bother me and I think I'm in the minority in that I like the darker blue as that is the true blue of the American flag. It would have been nice if the 80th cap had that nicer skin tone and overall paint job on the eyes. Great review and love love love the figure comparisons with the older 90s figures, always nice to see how far we've come.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. I don't remember, did I mention in the video that the 80 Years Cap matches the blue of the flag? I remember recording it, but I cut out a LOT in editing and never quite recall what I leave in or not.
@@5POAFigureReviews I don't believe you did but I do get that the lighter blue is definitely the more classic cap color and that is what most collectors are looking for.
The hips are different between the 80 Years and 20 Years versions.
As soon as I read your comment I went and checked and yeah, you are absolutely right. I seriously must have spent about 4 hours with these figures recording the footage, and another 8 editing it and I somehow did not notice that. Crazy. Very good observation!
The Marvel 80th Cap can actually do the splits whereas the the Marvel Legends 20th Cap cannot because of the mold and engineering. Great comparison review btw!

Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it! After a while I was afraid the comparisons might have been going on too long lol I even cut them down from what I originally shot ha
+1 I reeeally like size comparisons, as many as possible. I hate reviews that people only compares with close characters or figures from the same wave.
@@Pedr0Lima_ from a behind the scenes standpoint, I get why a lot of others don't. The comparisons take a long time to shoot and edit, and I have to gut my displays every time, but I also think it is totally worth it.
The unmasked Cap is the unmasked US Agent from the Disney+ wave. I lost it when you said "He's looking from sea to shinning sea" LOL!

The gray carded one with the painted on scales? I unfortunately don't have him. In general though, I should have done some head swaps between the ones I do have. Sorry about that. Glad you liked the video though!
Overall the new one I think works better but might hold off for the inevitable re-release with less accessories but a whole shield instead of a holey shield.
My hope it that that inevitable re-issue will have a better head but will color match. Shield-wise, I am happy with my old Cap workaround.
@@5POAFigureReviews Oh I am open to the shield work around if I can source one as I am sure my original vanished into the void years ago.
And yeah not sure what it is about the head that bothers me but something does.

Thank you, very thorough. C’mon, you gotta do 20th vs. 80th vs. original Toy Biz Hulks… sure, the original has no prayer, but there’s an emerging debate going on between whether 80th or 20th is better!
I wasn't planning on it because of how expensive of a video it would be, but I do have an idea for it I really like that I may cave in and do.
@@5POAFigureReviews that’d be awesome :-D. I don’t think anybody (including myself) that the 20th Hulk would stand up to the 80th pre-release… it’s been a game changer though!
Kinda makes me feel bad for the old ML Hulk. I have to say that, I remember picking it up in store (articulated, non-rubber hands), and thinking, “Wow, this is the first Hulk action figure I can feel REALLY good about having since *gasp* the Mego Hulks as a kid!
I love the 20th Ann. version. I had the 80th, and I sold it to get the 20th. The mask eye holes are kinda small, but I am okay with it.

I picked 80th Cap over the 20th one because I actually prefer the darker navy blue, though I had to give him the shield from Civil War Cap. I think this'll be my go-to Cap forever.
Also, any advice for head swaps for DC Classics Batman to make him a smidge taller? I got Mattel Multiverse Nightwing now and side-to-side things look a little off.

The head is enough to solidly put 80th Cap over everyone and everything else.
Yeah, the 80 Years heads are definitely superior. That head with face print and the 20th Anniversary color scheme would be the perfect Cap

If I did a Versus with Face Off I'd probably only do the masked version, but it's something I do want to do.
For all of the marvel legends Captain America the 2022 20th anniversary definitely throws off the list for me

While I have the 80 years Cap and am satisfied with it, I really like the newer Captain America figure. But upon pre-order, I didn't have the money to pull the trigger on it. I do like the face sculpt because it kinda reminds me of Matt Salinger from the 90s Captain America movie. Not a fan of that movie but I'm amazed at how the face kinda looks like him. I still couldn't justify buying one because people are selling that figure here at around $65 already. Crazy. I'm just sticking with what I have.
Did you see they just revealed a new Cap at a con in London?
@@5POAFigureReviews nope. But I did see some TH-cam thumbnails (or was it Facebook photos) about Marvel Legends announcements. I think I saw a Captain America figure there...was that Ultimate Cap? Seemed like the head was different and angry.
I have to disagree with you on those headsculpts. The 80th one is just too long and square-jawed, and the old paint scheme gives him a kind of far off look to his eyes. The new one is actually proportioned like a human, with a stronger chin and sloping jaw. The expression to my eye looks more stern than angry, and even at that it beats the goofy blank stare of the 80th release.
I got the 2002 cap back when it was in 2002. Still have him. Holds up well. Have a lot of figures from toybizs hayday. I'm such a nerd. Lol
Nothing wrong with that! I sold the bulk of my Toy Biz Legends many years ago for rent money and it broke my heart, so if you still have yours, that's awesome!
