    Finally bit the bullet! This helped tremendously because my main challenge was working with the organizing side of this software. This cleared it up!

    I switched to capture one 2-3 months ago, and really loving it. Especially the skin-tone smoothening. it is kinda of like frequency separation and color correction of skin tones. amazing control. also the capture one tethered session with the capture one pilot app for Ipad is amazing if you were to have a client onsite during a shoot that is verifying the shots in realtime.

    Thanks for the video! Just a small remark: The catalog is not a single file but a folder that is masked by the Mac os file system as a package. It appears as a single file but is a folder indeed. You can display its contents in the finder by right click -> "Display package content" and e.g. extract the raws.

    Second that. I am really happy I made the switch for several reasons: image quality being first and most important, but also: no lag when going through catalogue. That was one thing that was really annoying me in Lr. And that was with every single job having its own catalogue in Lr. It seems that Lr has a bit more user-friendly interface, but it's most likely because of just being used to it for years.

    Quite good. Presenter has a pleasant manner. I found it disorienting that there is a description of why Sessions are so good, but then a side trip into catalogs. Also, the part on culling showed how to narrow down to a couple of good images, but not how to delete the rejected ones from disk. As "getting started" video, I would have liked more info on how to set up albums and files. But, perhaps these are topics for later tutorials.

    Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge and experience, i think i'll stick to Lightroom, your presentation was great, but there is no reason why i should change, Lirghtroom is easy to use, less complicated and the workflow is smooth, especially when one might still need to use LR to organise PSD files, which are almost always! Have a great time, and good luck.

      Tooradj Esmailpoor Ghoochani I saw a comparison of raw-conversions of fuji .RAF/Trans X in C1 and LR. LR really sucks at FujiTrans X as there is clear evidence it can be done without partial softening and weird artefacts in foliage. I will give C1 a try.

    Does ph1 make copies of the files to put them in catalog, session, or smart collections - vs virtual pointers?In smart collections, what are the filter options - keyword, star, color, etc.? Keyword is important.
    Does it have virtual copy capability?On import, can't you default it to do All files?

    This tutorial is for Capture One Pro version 7, while there is information that can be gleaned from it, the interface no longer looks like what is shown in the video and you're on your own to figure out the differences, which, if it was that easy, you probhably wouldn't be watching this video in the first place. Just a heads up for you. No disrespect for the person making the video, but it should have been updated and replaced, or at least the title changed to reflect what is being reviewed (in case someone out there actually has a copy of version 7).

    I'd like to get the gray background to the various panels when they open as you show in this video, but I don't see the ability to do that in version 10 that I'm using. Is it something that was available in version 7 that has been deleted in version 10? If it's still there please post something on how to enable it.
    Thanks, Bob B

    Great video! But I am having some problems: the images seem to be locked (they all have a crossed pen icon on them, indicating they're not editable). As such, I can't access any of the image editing controls. Any chance you would know how to enable editing?

  • @druidobianco9734

    you can't enhance highlights and shadow in the HDR Dynamic Range tab but you can do it moving the Levels tab points: upper part of the right stick for highlights and lower part of the left stick for shadows. I think this must be included in your tutorials because you always tell that it's impossible to do it in capture one.

    I am having a challenge with batch exporting my images, once I'm finished with my editing. While in Lightroom (LR, images can be flagged and then all those can then be selected out with a click of a button, can a similar process be achieved in Capture One (CO). I know there is, but I just don't know how to do it. Can any assist?

    Hey Michael, great video, but I have a request for you:
    Could you do a video about Capture One Pro 11 for a total beginner, first time ever using any editing like me? I'm having a Hard time with this thing. I'm a self-taught kind of guy, so I taught I could do this on my own, but I Need Help with this, to understand how it works, what tools do what, etc..
    One more thing, when I open an image, it has a green paint in some areas, I think it's highlights, but not sure and can't get rid of it, so annoying. Do you know what it can be?
    I'm having trouble to open an image as well, it sounds silly, but it's true.

    Suggestion: Since the software (which I own and pay monthly and hardly use) is too complicated...

  • @normski4ash

    I have thousands of photographs, all stored on hard drives and catalogued by dates. Do I have to import every single one into capture one to open view or edit ? Thus meaning I have two copies of everything on my ever increasing numbers of hard drives.
    Think I'll stick with Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw, I can navigate to any picture I want and open it... Don't want to start creating hundreds of new catalogues, sessions etc ! seems ridiculous having to re do all my years of hard work...
    No Thnx, I'll pass !

  • @WitchyWillLuna

    it is a confusing program....

    • @tonysimagery5064
      @tonysimagery5064 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's confusing because he's overly-explaining. A lot of people don't care about all the go here and there for catalogs, click for PSD and click here ad there and here, here, here and click ok to open in PSD and all of that. I learned pretty much the basics of using. It's actually not bad once you get used to it. I don't worry about all that other stuff. I just tether in to get my shots together after creating a session which is sufficient enough, take my shots and review every so often. Look at the shots and determine what I like or don't. Then I edit the suckers that are good, export them and be done.

  • @angelisone
    @angelisone 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are not a real photographer if you have to use software to correct mistakes.
    Anyone good using a computer can correct images for many claimed professional photographers.
    You think I am wrong?
    Go to Picture People & JC Penney, many of the employees are making less than $16.00/hr can sell just by shooting JPEG and using the basic computer skills.
    Again, if you need to use software then it's best to take a class on basic photography.

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** They are not even close being an amateur photographers. Many do not even own a camera nor know how to use a camera or light set-ups.
      Less than $16.50/hr shooting to & making money for Lifetouch or for Picture People.

    • @JoeBob79569
      @JoeBob79569 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      angelisone I think you totally miss the point of editing software. Even before editing software was around, 'real' photographers would do essentially the same thing in the dark room. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing ..

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      joe o sullivan Even many photographers DO NOT have a studios /or home's darkroom. They go to have the film developed & printed.
      Only some semi-pros just afford to do basic black & white. Very few like I and my staff can do color.
      Again, you don't need to use a camera, just know how to cheat & edit images that claimed photographers can't get them right.
      Without editing software, many shooters are lost.

    • @JoeBob79569
      @JoeBob79569 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      angelisone I agree that 'Without editing software, many shooters are lost.' That's because it's essential. Raw files are designed to be edited. otherwise everyone would be shooting in jpeg. It's not just about correct mistakes.. You may need to remove dust spots, bring back detail lost in shadows, air brushing, combine multiple exposures for a higher dynamic range... etc.. etc..etc..

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      joe o sullivan That's because shooters do not know how to get it right the first time around.
      If you can't sell $500.00 for and 8 X10, then JPEG is fine.
      Beside many cheap/budget clients have no ideal if you shoot it in RAW or JPEG, if you only show them one photo.
      Are starting price is $500.00 for editing one image from photographers.
      This is exclusive for only one print no larger than 20 X 24.
      And we take a percentage, if it goes to front magazine /or inside mag.
      So my staff doesn't have to hold cameras and bread & butter come to me.
      He or she who knows how to cheat (using software) wins.
      Do we agree on that statement.
      Not many can afford ATG/Hasselblad HD/Leica S, Phase One XF & Canon EOS-1D C.
      We have them because we are on a freelists.
      Many pros have to buy, so they are really consumers.
