Adorable!!! My first English Cocker Spaniel lived 15 years, now I have a 3 year old. She's so sweet, funny, smart, active, playful, etc. I just love her ♥️
I've had 6 cockers in my life. (I'm 71). I loved all of my babies so very much. Cockers are just so cute and really, really love their humans friends. How I wish that dogs lived as long as we humans do, but that would mean the end of humanity, because dogs are so much more wonderful than humans that we just would stop having anything more to do with other humans.
I recently lost my first one...and she's left an enormous hole in my life. Do you recommend waiting for the second cocker to deal with the loss or not? Thank you.
@@invisuu6280 I definitely would advise to wait until you've had time to grieve and heal and can be very ready for a new sweet friend. Now, I am a very emotional man and it does depend on the person. I have a friend here who lost his mother and one of his dogs in a very short period. You would never know that he had suffered any kind of loss and got a new dog in his life rather quickly after having lost the old, dear one. I would not be able or want to do that. I lost a dog I loved so much in the late 80s and the person I was with pushed me to go ahead and get another pup. I did, but I always felt sorry for her, my little Pumpkin, because I felt that my heart had not healed enough from having lost my sweet old Daisy girl and the I wasn't fully there for Pumpkin. I wasn't ready for unconditional love yet. I did eventually fall in love with Pumpkin, too, but I didn't have the same devotion to her that I had had to Daisy. Don't misunderstand me; I loved Pumpkin much. She even gave me my little Butternut, her only pup who lived. He was my little boy and I worshipped him. Saying, "Goodbye," to both of them was so very heart-breaking. I wondered how many times a heart can be broken and still function? I don't know. I have a rescue cocker now that I got a few years ago, but some time after Butternut died. My old Sally girl who died in January loved my little Mia a lot and Mia adored Sally. For the first few weeks after Sally left us, Mia would go outside for 20 - 30 minutes at a time, and this is not a dog who likes to go outside unless it's with me and for a walk. I feel sure that she was trying to find her dear friend. (I'm crying while I'm trying to type this.) I may get another doggie; I feel that Mia would like another dog friend, but it will be a while before my heart can open up enough for that new love. By the way, Mia is so much like Butternut in many ways; I often wonder if she could be him re-incarnated, because he knew how much I missed him. Who knows? Much love and comfort to you.
@@ramseysealy8102 thank you so very much for your write-up. I am sure I will read through it several more times in the following days and weeks. I loved my Illy so much...for the first week I cried every day so much, I actually ran out of tears and could no longer cry for longer bursts than 10-15 seconds. I didn't even know that's possible. It's second week now and it's still very, very hard on me, but at least the crying has slowed to a managable level, so I can perform at work and play with my toddler and such. I'm fairly young at 30 y/o, so this has probably been the most traumatizing event of my life as that dog was my best friend for half of my life! I have definitely felt the lack of love to give as you described it, as I didn't have any to give even to my toddler. I really had to hear this from someone I think, but I am really not ready for a new dog. It would just be jumping into another "relationship" without really being ready for it and probably having unhealthy expectations of the new puppy. The limit of being able to have your heart broken is one that I do not wish to find, and I am having serious second thoughts about ever owning a dog again, because I'm not sure I can take such a loss again. I only hope to God my kids do not die before me. I will take your words to heart and I am very, very thankful for your write-up. Thank you so much! I wish you, your loved ones, and your 4 legged friends best of health and luck!
@@invisuu6280 I simply advise you to give yourself time and place to heal. You may not be aware at your stage of life, but grief has a nasty habit of returning to touch one after the initial so very hard phase has past. The good part it that its return visits get more spaced out and less intense over time. However, that last is a bit of an exaggeration because ever once in a while something will trigger your grief and it can be quite intense. But, it does pass. My heart does go out to you and try to let your love flow to your baby. They need that so much. Part of what you're experiencing is traumatic shock and part is fear of being left behind again by someone you love. Sadly, and to me inexplicably, this is how life is. Loved ones die and we are left to grieve and miss them. But, in your sorrow, left your heart feel joy at having known Lily and having had the joy you shared. You miss that joy and you miss her. Tears do help to cleanse the heart. And, very importantly, don not be afraid to let her go. Do not fear that you're no longer respecting her by letting her go. She loved you and would want you to be happy even without her. It al doesn't make sense, I know. But, let yourself rest in the knowledge that you cared for Lily so greatly and took care of her so well. And, with time, let yourself say, "Goodbye," to your sweet friend. You may have to come back to that several times and you may have to give yourself time to really believe that she has left this phase of existence. I believe that Lily, as well as my Sally, are in a better place with no suffering and only peace and joy. And, who knows, maybe in many years when it is time for you to leave this phase of existence, Lily may be there to welcome you with love and joy to a new existence. Much love to you.
Ramsey Sealy thank you Mr. Ramsey, I really do mean it. I needed a person like you in my life more than I thought. I have noone in my life that even vaguely understands what I’m going through, and I had noone to talk to. My poor Illy was in poor state the last year...she was completely deaf, she could barely see, she slept through almost all of the day, she couldn’t hold urine any longer - and this bothered her especially as she was SO clean, she wouldn’t pee near us even when we were out and about, she had recurring metabolic infections, meaning diarrhea every other day despite buying her the best food available in Europe for her condition, she was in constant pain and had several benign tumors, she had to be on permanent pain killers to even be able to stand up and lie down without grunting painfully each time, she needed 2 extensive surgeries in the past year and I’m fairly certain she was due for yet another dental surgery because she had hard time chewing hard doggy biscuits and such, plus she started having really bad breath. She was just a shadow of her former self. And even in her very old age, she was still so incredibly smart...I taught her hand gestures in just a few repetitions and we were able to communicate despite her being deaf. What an incredible girl. Luckily my wife has been able to cover for me with my toddler for the first week, but my baby started to really show she’s missing my attention, so I must go on, despite it being so incredibly hard. Thank you so very much for lending an ear and solid advice. I wish you all the best, greetings from Europe.
How sweet. Sigh. I rescued my Winnie-Muffin(Am.C.Sp. also) when she was 7yrs. She passed away peacefully @ 14yrs old, which is 3 months ago now. Miss her so much but love seeing these kinds of vids. Best wishes to you & all things Carmen from the Muffin & I. Adorable.
I know how you feel. I adopted a Cocker named Sandy, when she was 7. The idiot owes were going to pit her to sleep, because the kids were bored with her.
We sadly had 2 put our beautiful gold boy Sir Benson to sleep just aged 10 2 weeks ago. We are heart broken. We had no idea that within the space of hours he was seriously unwell. I enjoyed watching your video and am so glad we have taken so much footage of ours to over the years. Thank you for sharing your beautiful fur baby.
There is NO breed I love more than the American cocker spaniel. On my 3rd one now and she is a pistol. My first two were buff and my current, Abby Blue-Leigh is chocolate brown and white and lights up our whole life. Carmen is absolutely precious and a very typical merry little cocker spaniel. My baby only weighs 19 lbs so she is on the small side. She us barely two... My other two were around 22-23 lbs. I wish I had documented Abby's first year. Loved the video!!
She is so cute! Me and my siblings had an American cocker spaniel as well (black and tan) and her name was also Carmen. It is four years she passed away now (at age 13) and we still miss her every single day. These fellows do really become a family member.
That is a lovely video, you make me happy to see you ae training her. They can absorb so much discipline and training I think they are adorable. I've never encountered a happier more cheerful dog breed. Please remember to check her ears regularly and clip all the hair that grows between the pads on her feet so that she can grip better. It's also nice to see somebody who hasn't docked her tail; a barbaric practice. It's used for communication and balance! It's also as Mother Nature intended, no dog should suffer to please fashion or rumour. I'm convinced English Cocker Spaniels are are the best dogs ever. I can't speak for the American breed, so apologies, never had one. My Cocker died a few years ago now. Such intelligence, obedience, loyalty, ability to learn, to understand what is being spoken (not commanded) loves being taught to retrieve objects (naturally)! Mine used to chase and retrieve lemons, he was addicted to it and sleep with one in his basket. I also discovered he was fearless. I don't know if this applies to all Cockers, mine wouldn't hesitate to crash headlong through thicket & thorns and even face off against a much bigger dog without backing down. She will definitely brighten your life! All I need now is to find another pure bred E.C. Spaniel. 🙂
Beautiful dog , I'm a little bit concerned about her running with a long loose lead. We have a cocker, look after her and enjoy many years together. 🐶👍
