FYI Rad cals is a made up name for vinyl with a 12mil laminate protection. Stern no longer put any laminate on all their decals, its bare exposed ink... Regular laminate is about the cost of the vinyl itself, something similar to Rad cals is around twice as much. So for Stern to use something similar compared to what they are doing now (no laminate at all) it would cost them about triple the cost. As far as I know Stern are the only manufacturer that are not laminating their artwork at all, its quite important imo as it provides an additional protection for the ink not to rub off but also provides around 2-3 times longer UV protection vs exposed ink alone. So make sure to keep your new Sterns out of the sun! I own a print shop and I never ship any artwork not laminated whatsoever. Stern are really cheaping out on that aspect, however most people are probably not aware of this. They try cut costs everywhere while raising prices.
Watching Cale talk to Retro Ralph earlier today and he said they will have one at Electric Bat.. but Gameroom Goodies(I think) is going to be the operator of the game ..so dont think he is buying one.
I didn’t want to like X-men (space and money) but I loved what I saw at release and ended up ordering. I watched the first stream and I wasn’t nearly as critical as the “community”. I’m still excited to pick it up.
Is Travis going to Free Play this year? I didnt know he came down in prior year(s). As for your comments about Stern vs JJP. At my local arcade most people don't login to Insider. I don't believe that's the issue. The casuals just don't put quarters into JJP games. They aren't as fun mechanically. The flippers don't hit as hard (even with new capacitors). Wonka was super dark. Toy Story the main shot (kaboom ramp) pops up and disappears on a 3.5 second timer.
Couldn’t disagree more about the difference of long term playability difference between Stern and JJP being tied to insider connected. JJP’s tables just aren’t as good, they have a cheap feel to them despite their high cost. The high cost also prohibits them from being in as many publicly available places so there is less of an opportunity for people to get into them. Not all Stern tables are great, but they hit the mark often enough. This being said, Avatar looks great, and I hope it does well. Elton John was good, still felt cheap, maybe it’s the flippers?
Guys, they have a saying in German- "People talk as the day is long". I think that you are paying WAY TOO MUCH attention to the garbage being said by "prospective" customers. People lie. CONSTANTLY. Don't give their garbage any credence. I would hazard that 9/10 of the feedback is just noise. Be a stoic. Form your own opinion. Stream with a positive, happy attitude and the rest will follow. Set the example - don't follow the crowd. LEAD - DON'T FOLLOW. You are only enabling the negativity when you give it power. No stream will "make or break" a game. It will only slow down or speed up it's trajectory. The truth ALWAYS comes out. I'm not saying tweaks cannot be made - but man, there is so much garbage being talked in pinball. It's as bad as knitting (no joke, look into it yourself). Play happy. Screw the haters.
Listening to Joel try to describe the rules and modes for avatar sounds like me trying to explain the rules to godfather to someone. Soooo confusing and needlessly complicated. Maybe we godfather owners need a translite rule sheet too? 😂
Woah was looking at the comments while I watched all of this. On the one side I felt I heard some of the smartest business type comments from Travis that I have ever heard on a pinball podcast. But yah wow the unbridled bias as really quite out of control. And I own no JJP just Stern and a couple older Williams.
It's almost heartbreaking when you have a 22" inch monitor, but you have to print a convoluted spreadsheet to teach a game. Then on top of that "Just look up really high at this other giant monitor and that will really tell you the information you want." Least user friendly experience. Should be fun to play a game, not an after school study. I'd imagine if they were in the business of selling toasters, we would have 15 buttons and 3 knobs and 1 to 2 LCD screens for you to bake a piece of toast.
About xmen, lets be honest... rushing this game to market isnt making the callouts and music any worse. Those callouts and music are DONE. Maybe we get better animations, but my fear is we have another AIQ on our hands: great pkayfield and art, ho hum assets from the software side.
I mean, Travis is a joke! Is there anyone really thinking he's impartial? He's selling Stern and he refuses to answer any question because "he doesn't want to be in trouble" and a few minutes later he's blasting JJP like they're doing nothing good! No need to mention that he DOESN'T sell JJP as a dealer and that he clearly wants to make them drown so he can sell more Stern! Seriously, it's a shame!
I totally agree. I was just listening to him grill Joel on the early rule set and the shots you have to hit. We get it... you sell Sterns. My lineup is all 5 Sterns and 1 CGC so I'm completely non biased. His distain for JJP was very clear and he came off like a whiny asshold. Worst episode yet. Travis is a tool.
