    Not edited, not quantized , not pre recorded.... Live music.... Human music. Just the way it’s supposed to be.

    Allen went to MI in the 80s on the Larry Carlton scholarship and here he is playing with his son Travis . He’s always a treat to listen to , great player and lovely human being !

    Dude. For anyone in the L.A. area, get out to the Baked Potato some time to see these cats play (Allen Hinds' group). It's moving and astonishing. Allen often has the incomparable Maxayn Lewis up to sing a few tunes, which is a bit like having God breathe the light of the cosmos straight into your ears. (Watch the "Ode to Billy Joe" video that's probably on the "Up next" sidebar right now.) We do that nighttime round trip drive from San Diego every time we can just to see them.

      I went to watch them at the Baked Potato yesterday. The musicianship? Second to none. And the raw energy and fun they have on stage is so contagious. Definitely one of my favorite performances.

    Holy Moly... fell on to this after watching the Andertons UK interview with Allen. Such great playing. Not "ooh, look at me" but instead just "play for the song/groove". Reminds me, sadly, of Allan Murphy, who died in the 80's but had that same kind of thing in his playing - what note is best, not what note makes me look best.

    • @dalezjc
      @dalezjc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's how I ended up here as well. Loved the interview on Anderton's and started seeking Allen out. Gawd; what a player he is. Almost a cross between Robben Ford and Josh Smith.

    • @martinstender
      @martinstender 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! It's remarkable so many people remember Murphy - as do I.
      I haven't done a lot of searching, but besides Go West, do you about other stuff I should check out?
      Tia :-)

    • @e.g.systems6146
      @e.g.systems6146 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know Murphy played on at least one kate Bush album, and I'n pretty sure there was some kind of Fusion band that he was in as well.

    • @fusionfan6883
      @fusionfan6883 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love A Murphy! He assimilated elements of the incomparable Allan Holdsworth and created an accessible fusion hybrid sound that was uniquely his own. He was of course in Level 42 for a while - and Allan actually filled in on a tour after his untimely passing - but if you want to hear him in full fusion banshee mode check out the SFX album originally released on the Naim label! It’s crazy, three stellar guitarists all called Alan (sort of)! If you like that style check out Brett Garsed too. And if you can find it, I strongly recommend Ronnie Johnson’s amazing playing on How the Land Lies by First Light. Finally talking about unsung British fusion monsters, you must listen to Jazz Metal by Shaun Baxter and Guitar Stories by Keith Moore! Peace.

    I love how he repeats notes inside his lines. i've been doing it a lot and havent been able to figure out who was the inspiration or that technique/Economy picking. good to know. allen is killin, whole band is killin.

    • @Bflatest
      @Bflatest 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think economy picking was kind of pushed early on by Frank Gambale

    • @sdkdrummer
      @sdkdrummer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Anderton's video he talks about being influenced by Holdsworth's tone and the legato phrasing. He complains that his right hand technique isn't up to the "pick every note" style. That's okay. It sounds for fluid and melodic the way he does it. Which seems to be his priority. Thank goodness. We have enough amazing technicians already.
