Pushing Myself in Glasgow

  • Pushing myself in Glasgow. After falling in Dublin I resolved to take it easy, that is until the live show last night when I mentioned I may skip Glasgow and the majority of folks strongly advised against it. So I hit the streets of Greenock and Glasgow to push my limits and please the masses. I was surprised at what I found in Glasgow. A lesson well learned. Enjoy this adventure from my British Isles cruise on the Regal Princess.

I was raised in Glasgow and hung out at the museum all the time. We learned more from the curators than you would ever learn in school.Thank you for making me homesick. ☺️☺️

Glasgow is my home city. Spent much of my childhood with my siblings exploring the city and on cold or wet days, Kelvin grove museum kept us entertained and sheltered until it was time to return home for dinner and bed.

Nicely done, sir. Train system in Europe is so easy to use and clean. We in America could use their system as an example.

Unfortunately not. The strikes going on here in the UK and the after effect of COVID have ruined our train service. I used to get one train from Durham to Southampton direct. Now it's at least 2 changes! Once you've booked you're never quite sure it's going to run. 😔

Hi Richard, I have family in Scotland and England and what you said was true but unfortunately nowadays the train system has gone downhill quite badly but not too sure how the rest of Europe is fairing. Travelled around Europe 2019 and definitely the trains were amazing.

We enjoy the trains in the Schengen area of Europe as it’s so easy to country hop when you’d like. Riding the tube in London was anxiety-producing though. 😆

It takes a certain type of person to appreciate Dali. One time while visiting in Florida our group decided to explore the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. We began a guided tour together, but by the end I was the only one left. One by one my companions dropped out of the tour and went outside to wait in the garden. We still laugh about it. Glad you got to see a favorite painting in person, Tony! Your efforts are very much appreciated!

Hi Tony. Looks like this was an amazing day. You got out on your own and you were blessed by the museum and seeing Dali. Something you may not have seen had you been with everyone else. Still an impressive amount of steps considering the bus and train ride. Can hear it in your voice, you truly enjoy this experience. A memory for a lifetime ❤. Glad you feel better. I grew up in Glasgow, left in 1993 but as a 12 year old and older I used to catch the bus across town to look at the dinosaurs and stuffed animals and I used to stand a long time in awe at the Dali painting. I used to do this when I was bored. These days you go on TH-cam.

My city...I was born there, spent my childhood in Greenock, then studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the Mackintosh Building before it burned down. When I lived in Glasgow as a student I used to go to the Art Gallery and have coffee at the weekend when I was a bit lonely in my student flat. All the museums in Glasgow are free, by the way. He could have made this video just for me. I wish he had seen the shipyards in all their glory. I live in the Scottish Borders now but there is no place like Glasgow. I loved every minute of this video - thank you for bringing back so many happy memories!

I started traveling independently when I was 19. I am now almost 67 and have spent time by myself in many cities around the world, with London in 2019 my last solo trip. Tony, don’t you feel a confidence boost? It is hard to put yourself out there, do it alone, make mistakes, etc., but then you have amazing adventures, broaden your life experience, and get the “I did it!” moments. So, so cool… Great job, Tony!

Thank you so much for sharing that, I felt as if I were in Glasgow again after two months. Apparently, all the hop-on hop-off buses in the UK (same happens in Belfast and London) and also in the Republic of Ireland give you a map and earbuds when you get on the bus and when there isn't a guide on it. I envy you at the Kelvingrove, as I wasn't able to visit the 1st and 2nd floor, I spent 2 hours and a half only on the ground floor, and it closed after that.😢 Anyway, I think Glasgow is a wonderful place; it is safe, and I hope I can go there again.😊
