I believe the bird at 3:47 is also a White-tailed Hawk. Structure and coloration just seem a bit off for Harris's. Plus, all ages of Harris's should show a yellow cere; this bird is showing a blue-gray cere, which would be more in line with a juvenile WTHA.
I live in Massachusetts and there is a pair of merlins in Mt Auburn cemetery which is part of my observation territory. I have seen 182 species of birds in my lifetime.
I managed to see my lifer middle spotted woodpecker a few days ago. It’s the rarest of the woodpeckers in the Netherlands. I was litteraly jumping off happiness once I realized it was actually it. Its awesome how much joy this hobby can give.
Derek and Ryan I am glad you guys got that bird cause that has been my nemesis bird in South Texas the 5 times I've been there and yes I want to go there next April to where you guys went and I want to find one thank you for showing these Beautiful Falcons .
So excited for you guys! I was down at Port Aransas to see the Whooping Cranes and saw some in Mustang Island State Park last week. At first glance I thought they were Kestrels.
I lived in Texas in the early '90's and remember going to a raptor show where they discussed the recent release of these incredible birds. I was fascinated. It's great to hear that the species has flourished. Enjoyed seeing them in your videos. A truly lovely bird.
It has a bit colder in TX kast few days , but way warmer than Wisconsin. TX freezing must be like Wisconsin's Spring. Very cool looking Falcon, and all the birds, really. TY. Neat looking creature.
Though I'm a Birder based over here in the U. K. and no chance of getting over to your side of the pond to bird, the next best thing for me is watching your vids. Really enjoyed taking a look at this one. 👍
Lucky you! I've been to the southern Texas areas several times and we were always on the lookout for an Aplomado Falcon. But that was years ago, probably before they were reintroduced. The only one I have seen was at a museum in a little town (forgot the name) near Monterrey, stuffed, of course. Not nearly so pretty as the two that you saw. I guess I'll have to go back again sometime. Glad to see the very distinguishable markings! It would be a vey special life bird for me. Loved the video!!
Awesome video! What a cool looking falcon! I've got a 12 hour layover in Houston and am looking to get birding while I'm there if anyone who knows the area has any birding spot recommends!
Armand bayou nature center is great for marsh birds like yellow throat & osprey. Ive seen yellow bellied sap suckers & heard many woodpeckers. At the entrance is a great field for watching raptors in the sky. Huntsville state park an hour north of Houston is my all time favorite. It surrounds a lake so youll see lake birds along with the warblers and woodpeckers in the pine forest. Galveston island state park is another fantastic choice!
Did you get them on the RGVBF big day van? I was able to see them on the cell phone tower across the road from the nest box site that's a mile down the road from the eco-tourism center.
Anytime! Ya, I got no experience with southern raptors, I could see Harris’s too. I didn’t realize Harris’s had the dihedral flight, tail looked all white to me to, but those were my eyes. I’m always learning. Right on 🤙🏻 with the your videos, I enjoy them.
The chest is orange in the indoor shot but white in your outdoor shots. The orange chest reminds me of the orange breasted falcon I saw close up at bird refuge in Belize. I'm confused.
I saw one 30 or so years ago, and I wasn't looking for them. I've had rare luck finding birds when I was looking for them. Maybe you should just let it happen
The bird at 3:47 and at 4:35 should be labeled "White-tailed Hawk". 👍

@@logananderson2960I think you’re right! Looking back at the film I think it’s actually the same bird. Good catch 👍

Congrats on the awesome sighting!
Based stormy appearance
Official pup of the channel? 🤔

Such a unique bird great score guys !

Gorgeous raptor! Grats on getting such great looks at them too! Perseverance and the lucky puppy made the difference, right? :D
We would definitely not have found the Falcon without Stormy

Nice! Years back, had the pleasure to see a pair on Matagorda Island teaming up to hunt down a purple martin

Such a cool bird! I just got my lifer Aplamodo Falcon while in Ecuador! Hopefully I can find some in the US in the coming years.
I've never seen an Aplomado falcon, but I have seen a merlin.

You guys really had some crappy weather when you were in the Valley. Cold rain, and you’re dressed like your in a Wisconsin winter!
The falcon is new to me. Looks a little bit like the pelegrine falcon. Thanks for showing us this species. Greets Stefan
Definitely a similar look
Nice! I've only seen 1 before years ago
Great job as always guys!

I saw a peregrine falcon recently. Falcons are so cool!
💯
Oh wow, what a sweet looking bird! Would love to see an Aplomado Falcon someday! Thanks for another entertaining video!
Nice, saw 1 in chile close, did u turn for pic, flew to another pole. Went towards that pole, flew again, so no pics. Just total kestrel behaviour lol
Cheeto!

I helped lead a specific Aplo trip for the tour and we got them then! It was super rainy on our Big Day Van trip so we headed west!
that "northern harrier" of yours is looking like a dark-morph WTHA... 🥶
@czykonnature beat you to it! You gotta be quicker than that! 🤣
@@BadgerlandBirding didn't specify dark morph 🤓
@@pauraque haha I’ll give you that
@@pauraquefor the win. Cool looking hawk, send one to Pennsylvania haha
👍🏻
Just wanted to say, you got a more unique raptor at the 4:35 mark of the video. Looks like a immature White-Tailed Hawk
Good catch! I think our northern brains said “white rump = harrier”. I’m thinking it looks better for Harris’s Hawk

Orange chest means they are a juvenile, white means they’re adults!
