80s supergroup Cinderella is one of my favorite bands of all time! Tom uses so much fry in his voice, very similar to Stevie Nicks. Thank you Aaliyah for this wonderful review of a band that I grew up listening to.
In the vast pantheon of power ballads- which are of course ballads done in a hard rock and metal style- this is one of my top tunes. To me it still holds up all these years later. And the title line is a very classic and true statement. Also, I think you are right, it’s not too common to hear distortion and grit on such a high register. Lastly, I have to add your singing voice is so high and clear, it’s powerfully piercing.
One of the best bands and song of the 80's. Other songs you could check out are Coming home, Gypsy Road,Shake Me, The Last Mile,Somebody Save Me,and Nobody's Fool.
I was a teenager in the 80s so I grew up with this genre of music. I have lots of good memories of Cinderella. This song in particular was the song that my first love and I decided was "our" song. Going on 40 years ago... good lord! Also on a side note.. the video was filmed at Mono Lake and the ghost town of Bodie, in California. The video inspired me as a teenager to go to these places someday. And I have many times. Thank you Cinderella!
I just realized for some reason despite the many months of watching your reactions that as an opera singer you might want to check out Elizabeth Zharoff aka The Charismatic Voice. She is an opera singer herself and it would be cool to see what you an opera singer think of her.
That’s Tom singing. That’s Tom on Piano. That’s Tom on lead guitar doing a solo. Dude is multi talented. I recommend “Coming Home” by Cinderella. Another hit song where he starts with his normal singing voice, then later kicks into his raspy voice, which makes the two, so cool.
This is the first Cinderella song that I heard, back in the late 90s, for me. Never get tired of listening to this song. Love his rasppiness. Really enjoyed your analysis of his voice and the song. Thank you so much for what you do and as always, great reaction. ❤❤❤❤❤
I appreciate the manner in which you not only critique but reach the pinnacles of satisfaction my wife and I had growing up and falling in love to this music...please continue doing so
Hello, Aaliyah I just found your reaction channel and love your reaction to one of my favorite 80's songs. Keep up the great work, you have a new fan and subscriber. 😊
Tom is a unique artist... he is an incredible singer, musician, and performer. He and/or Cinderella should have been bigger. Check out his solo band too. He's still making incredible music. ❤
Aaliyah, that was a great reaction to a great song. I love watching your appreciation for the music and especially the guitar solo. Some other good songs of theirs to check out are 'Coming Home', 'Somebody Save Me', 'Gypsy Road', 'The Last Mile', and 'Heartbreak Station.'
That raspy/growl in his voice, it's just so unique. I hate all the vocal issues he had as time went on, i can't help but to wonder if he just pushed his vocal cords to the limit, which i do believe he did. He seriously went out of his way to sound different, and he succeeded big time, and he still has it today! You can see stuff from the past year or so and he still has it. Maybe not as good as it once was, but that's just what happens when you age, especially if you were into hard rock/glam metal, or any sorta music where you are seriously crushing it when you perform high tension "power ballads".
Cinderella was more than a hair band as they had real hard rock chops and could make memorable hooks. They understood dynamics and wrote memorable tunes like this one. For another, try Shake Me, a great rocker and hit for them. Rock On my dear, looking great as always! Smile as much as you can and enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶🔥
He lost/ damaged his voice for awhile, he's back performing now. HEARTBREAK STATION, the album after this one, he sings alot more without the "RASPINESS" I like that voice, I LOVE CINDERELLA, saw them on this tour, this song he came down from the ceiling of the COLISEUM playing a Grand Piano 🎹
The acoustic/unplugged rendition of this song is just as good and worth checking out. Cinderella is really neat because of how their sound evolves across their first three albums. Their first album that you've already heard a bit of was pretty much pure hair metal. Their second which this song is from included a lot more bluesy influences and can be heard in songs like Gypsy Road, Coming Home, Bad Seamstress Blues, and Take Me Back. Their third, well, go listen to Shelter Me and you tell me about their third. I love it, but I'm not sure how to describe it.
I've followed you a few years now. You were fresh and young and just enjoying new experiences then. You've grown musically outside of your genre. I don't remember if you've dove into Aerosmith before. I think Steven Tyler would be a lot of fun to see you break down.
I never took Cinderella seriously until a friend of my, set me down and had me listen to this album. I guess I was around 15. Since then I have always said Aerosmith (Dude looks like a lady era) was the poor man's version of Cinderella. Cinderella should be selling out football stadiums in 2024. They archived a level of success that most bands would kill for, but they should have been so much bigger. They got catch in the "Hair Metal" curse of the early 90's. They have other songs that are so much better then this. Great reaction thank you.
here is a list of singers / videos to check out with diffferent voices... Bang Tango-Joe-Leste Someone Like You... Bulletboys-Marc Torien- Smooth Up... Dangerous Toys-Jason Mc Master ... Scared... Fasterpussy Cat-Tamie Downs - House Of Pain... Kix-Steven Whiteman - Dont Close Your Eyes... Quiet Riot-Keven Debrow Bang Your Head... Queensryche-Geoff Tate - Empire... Tesla-Jeff Keith - The Wayy It Is...
I loved this song as a teen. I remember that I tortured my parents with my Cinderella cassette tape on our drive to our holiday destination for hours once😂
Aaliyah I Love Seeing Young People like you Enjoying My Generation's Music. You Should Check Out Foreigner and The Little River Band I Think You would love Both Banda. Which there are Sooo Many Great Ones from the Amazing 70's and Awesome 80's
60000 plus stadium arena Grand Rapids MI baby grand piano purple him wearing purple tux being lowered down on platform just light on him during this song many bras hit the stage beautiful was 27 during this tour never forget night wish could go back sweetie
I'm not expert but i train this kind sound for around 4 years now. Yes it does hard to do because first think u need to strengthten ur headvoice and bring it down to chest.so its deceiving the headvoice sound like belted chest.and then on top of that u add those distortion.the concept for me at least the same as when u distort ur chest voice.the problem is,mostly people 'choke' themselve to get those effect.geoff tate also bring his headvoice to chest, but without distortion. I tell u,its tough sound to manage.but cool as hellb and also make u sing high more easy especially for baritone. Just my opinion though
Thank you for your your videos if you wanted try more raspy voice do Accept specially Can't Stand The Night The singer is the great Udo Dirkschneider. And please do Meatloaf For Crying Out Loud. My best regards!
There was nothing like watching MTV in the 80s. Sorry kids, you'll have to find a time machine to understand. Oh and those were real helicopter flyover shots. We didn't have drones yet.
Tom was a really good vocalist but he plays so many instruments. He is the band. He had nerve damage in his vocal cords that nearly ended his career all together

I miss the 80s. I agree. His phrasing and stylistic choices are a big part of the hook. Nice reaction. It was fun

Cinderella, in my opinion, was at the top with Motlely Crue and Poison, in the 80's. But for some reason didn't receive the recognition they deserved.
next must of Cinderella: Coming home
Try "Nobody's Fool" another great song!
