    Nice counterweight fix. I velcro'd a millenium falcon keychain and a rock together for mine (weighed 95g total). Did notice the motors taxed a lot more with the added weight, and caught the corner of the front motor with the Moment Wide a few times in quick maneuver turns and whatnot. Still a decent gimbal/lens setup until I get the far superior Freefly Movi tailored to the Moment lens and case... :)

    Very good trick for balancing the lens

    nice :) When I do quite the same I'e got a problem, The gimbal is filmed by the wide lens. On the right side of the frame I can see the central motor of the Oslo Mobile 2. So what is you seting ?

    Genius man!
    Does the motor get in the way during shooting?

      It sometimes shows up but it's pretty easy to avoid if you are paying attention. On a few shots, I've had to crop in when I'm editing the video to hide it.

      Im having the same issue with the Osmo 2 and the X. My Olloclip maybe a wider field of view because its an issue! ugh.

    I'm a first timer entering the photography/videography world, and your videos have been very helpful for me as I'm going to be purchasing a Moment lens w/ iPhone X. Curious how much your counterweights are individually and total? I'm seeing elsewhere that roughly 50g of weight should counter the Moment Wide w/ iPhone X?
    EDIT: I actually see you've answered the weight question in another comment. In the months since this video was uploaded, have you gathered any additional insight on the Moment lens + iPhone X combo? I've seen your comment on how the case doesn't fit well in the gimbal which worries me as my primary purpose for the purchase is to take it to music festivals and not get incredibly shaky video.

      Kaleb Page Even though the phone with the case doesn’t fit like it’s suppose to, like it does without a case, it doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall out. I don’t have any issues using the gimbal, lens, and counterweight so long as I take the time to balance it before hand which takes more fiddling than without the case, lens, and weight. It’s important to note though that I’ve not taken any long videos with this setup. I’m usually shooting in three to five minute bursts.

      Thanks for the response. I've no experience at all with gimbals, let alone jury rigging counterweights, so it should be quite the learning experience for me. Hopefully I can get a good feel for it quickly as I will only have 5-7 days between receiving my gimbal and leaving for my trip! No doubt going to be copying your counterweight system.

      Kaleb Page Moment has a universal counter weight that won’t be available in time for your trip but might be worth the cost when it is available (late June). I plan to get one. They recommend 90g, btw, for my phone and case. They have a link to a google sheet that shows how much weight you need for different phone and case combos (it’s on the second tab). www.shopmoment.com/shop/universal-gimbal-counterweight

      That counterweight is already on my radar but I appreciate you taking the time to direct me to the Google Sheet as I overlooked it! Looks like I'll be shopping for 90g of washers once I get that puppy in the mail.

      One more question for you: Have you discovered a decent weight for countering the Moment case WITHOUT a lens? The obvious solution is to simply remove the case and all counterweights, but I'm cautious to leave my glass baby completely exposed.

    Great video, did you feel motors strugling? Is there any information how much weight can you put on mobile osmo 2 ? I have IP7 plus with moment case and lens, which is 188g + 46g + 90g ... some people use it, but i have feeling that is too heavy ? Any problems from your side?

    • @ShawnyPops
      @ShawnyPops  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello and thank you, Yaan. So long as I take the time to balance the setup, the motors don't seem to struggle. By that, I mean that they work as normal without getting hot and so far, without impacting the battery life. I've yet to run the gimbal below 50% before being done for the day. That said, balancing takes a little bit more time with the lens and counterweight. The only thing I find annoying about the setup is that the rubber grips on the Osmo Mobile 2 are designed for the phone without a case on it. There isn't any risk of it popping out while using it but when I putting it in and adjusting it for the first time, it does want to slip out. I don't think you'll have a problem with your IP7 plus.

    Hey quick question! Did you experience the gimbal not properly working when you had the counterweight and moment lense on? I have a 6 plus and will be using a moment lense on my gimbal. I just wanted to make sure that the gimbal could take the weight before I put it on.

    • @ShawnyPops
      @ShawnyPops  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Kaylee. I’ve only used it a handful of times so far, maybe thirty minutes worth of video in total. I’ve only had an issue once when I was in a hurry to film my grandkids and I didn’t get it balanced right before turning it on. If I tilted the gimbal too far in any one direction it would topple over. One of the motors also got warm. I turned it off, balanced it correctly, it then worked fine and none of the motors got warm.

    How did you get the case to fit in the gimbal . Mine doesn’t fit flush. Did you remove some off the padding ?

    • @ShawnyPops
      @ShawnyPops  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doug Sweet No. I did not make any modifications. It fits but not well. It doesn’t sit in the little pockets on the sides.

    Looking into getting either the 1st Gen Osmo Mobile or 2nd. But did you find the motor would get into the shot while using the wide lens?

    I tried a weight for counter-balance as well, but just like the guys from Moment in their "gimbal shootout" video, the motor ends up being visible in the frame when using the wide angle lens. I didn't notice that in your video here. Was this simply a matter of sliding the phone/gimbal all the way to the left and then adding enough counter-weight for it to work? As is, mine is almost completely useless. ALSO, I don't really feel like the iphoneX case is very secure in the Osmo mobile 2 clamp/grip. It almost feels as though it will pop off at any moment. I'm assuming you have this same issue?

    • @ShawnyPops
      @ShawnyPops  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron Waggoner Hello! Yeah, I noticed that to from the same Moment video and I didn’t want to be limited to flash light mode as they suggested. Yes, that’s exactly what I did. I slid the gimbal adjustment all the way over to its shortest length before figuring out how much weight to add to counterbalance the phone. I’ve used the gimbal and lens together now a few more times and the motors don’t get hot and I’m not noticing any impact on battery. The only negative so far is setup takes a bit longer. I agree that the phone and case don’t fit well in the gimbal. I definitely won’t use it where wind or motion might cause it to slip out. Overall I’d give the product a “B” on design. Still, it’s working for me and takes enough shake out of the footage that I don’t have to worry about that being a distraction.

      I’m getting the same thing. I can see the gimble in my shot. My Osmo mobile 2 vibrates like crazy sometimes too. It barely fits in with the moment case on. Probably the osmos only design flaw was the iPhone clamp.

    • @ShawnyPops
      @ShawnyPops  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did add enough weight to slide the phone as far away from the gimbal motor as possible. I totally agree with the clamp issue using any kind of case. But all in all, with some effort, I’m able to make the two work together. I’ve had to zoom in slightly on a few shots to crop out the motor.

    Shawn, whats the total weight of those washers?

      Dem Catacutan 100 grams.

    You put the Moment Lens on incorrectly. The "M" is supposed to be lined up with the line on the side of the case.

    • @ShawnyPops
      @ShawnyPops  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dudley Warner Yeah, that kind of bugs me about the iPhone X case. The line is actually on the top and not the side like I expected it to be. In fact, when I first got the case and lens I instinctively positioned the line on the lens towards the side of the case but it wouldn’t attach that way. Oh well!

    • @dewarner12
      @dewarner12 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I did not know that there was a difference with the iPhone X case. Moment says that their new OM2 weight will ship in the Spring. In the meantime, I am going to try your DIY fix. Thanks for the video.

    • @ShawnyPops
      @ShawnyPops  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dudley Warner The logos are upside down when I hold the phone in what I consider the normal way (and the only way it will mount with the Osmo Mobile). I wonder if it has something to do with the cameras being oriented up and down instead of left to right. Thanks for the heads up about the weight. I kind-of-sort-of weighed the side of the phone with the lens on while attached to the gimbal (used a food scale) and it weighed about 110 grams. I weighed fender washers until I got close to that weight.
