Born in lerwick. Live in sydney Australia. What a difference. Havent been back since 88. Next time i can go on holidays definatly heading back for a visit.
Beautiful video. My family & I lived in Trondra in the 1970s and early 1980s. I taught at Scalloway JHS (as it was then) and then at the Anderson High School. Seeing these fabulous views and hearing a real Shetland voice brings back so many memories. I used to drive across the Trondra brig daily on my way to and from work, visiting friends...
My Mom (Bonita Beach) taught drama at Anderson 1978/9 and I went to Dunrossness. Remember Roger Wildman? He taught me violin -- well... attempted to teach me violin.
I was posted to Saxa Vord in Unst from 1989-1991 and this video really makes me yearn to go back. I used to love the drive and two ferry rides from Harlodswick to Lerwick on our weekends out.
I remember the ferry between Unst and Yell and Yell and the Mainland. When you drove up too late, the ferry would oftentimes do a U-turn and come back to pick you up.
Beautiful video. Funny how I feel homesick for a place I've only visited twice. It won't take many more of these videos to bring on trip number three to put down permanent roots.
I felt the same when I was there 7 years ago when I came home I was so home sick for the place my parents were born so peaceful and the wildlife is amazing 💕👍
brings back fond memories of hamnavoe really enjoyed playing pool in hamanavoe with my ousins wayne and amanda
I lived in the south road 20 years ago...the view going into town is...exactly the same as when I left!

Shetland seems to have a strong sense of community..lovely place..been there
I love the accent! It's like how we Indonesians speak English, the "R" and "T" are clearly pronounced.
My dog is from here !💕😘😘👍
This is perfection.

When I lived there (1978/9), I remember quite a few from Australia and New Zealand. I've no doubt you would be welcomed.

Im from Iceland, and im told that in Shetland Dialect there are some words simular to Icelandic, is it true ?
Shetland has a very Norse influence, and they say Icelandic is one of the closest modern languages to Norse, so I’d say you’re correct.
i have heard the same
Lovely place. Must feel very isolated at times.
Nope we don't want any part of the mainland down here we love the isloslation
