My Grandad’s best friend had a 2005 DB9 back in 06’ when i was about 8 and it was the first “Supercar” i’d even been around at the time, went out in it and it make me feel sick how fast it was. Almost 20 years later i still have it set that i will own one eventually, the DB9 has a special place in my heart🤟🏻
I've been fortunate enough to drive a 2006 DB9 and I don't know why you'd want anything faster for the road tbh. 0-60 in the late 4's, 0-100 in the mid 10's and a top speed of 186 mph. It's plenty fast enough and is the kind of car that could cruise at 130 mph all day. Was a very special car and sounded amazing. I've got 2 kids so obviously not practical for me as a daily but I'd love one for an occasional Sunday drive. If I could afford one as a toy, I'd just get Apple CarPlay/Android Auto added to it as the Volvo era Sat Nav is horseshit and out of date. The pre-facelift DB9 (2003-2008) and the pre-facelift V8 Vantage (2005-2008) are the 2 most beautiful cars in the last 20 years. The only other car that comes close for me is a pre-facelift Maserati Granturismo with the birdcage alloys.
Ah yes, the car that started off one of my favourite phases of Aston Martin. The subtle yet smart looking designs. The engines from this era also sounded so great imo
I had a 05 DB9 for 5 years as a daily driver, put 43,000 miles on it. Very reliable car. Solid engine and drivetrain. Sold it and bought a 2011 Rapide and absolutely love it too. These cars are a bargain on used market.
What a coincidence. Last night I was looking for V12’s under $70k. I came across some nice DB9 examples. The interior is timeless in my opinion. I truly appreciate this video!!
Not to be a naysayer - it is a lovely car! - but my mechanic, Harris, in Berkeley, California, who works on British and European cars exclusively won't touch these. He tells me parts need to come from the dealer, which means they will and do charge high, unpredictable rates - whatever they feel like charging. A brake service that cost 500. dollars on one occasion costs 1200. the next. His customers were getting angry at him. He just gave up working on them. From what I gather he is not alone.
Tedward driving Aston Martins is like Nick and his Porsches, It just goes together like a glove. Thanks for sharing this sheer earporn episode Ted! I can't get enough of these British GT's!
My god. I asked for this a couple of months ago and there it is. Another, pre facelift DB9 this time. I want to believe that you somewhat followed my request. Thanks for that! You are a legend!
I think the DB9 was the best-looking car of the 2000's by far! Best start-up sound, too. Been a while since I drove the DB9 and Vantage but I recall being very let down by the auto in the DB9. The manual in the Vantage was far better and made me wish that many more people ordered their DB9 with the stick (Martha Stewart did!).
@@TedwardDrives right and when speaking maintenance, zf torque converter is in another league ! Vantage clutch easy to burn, just try reversing on a slope !
I don't understand how people don't like Aston's i mean, the sounds of the starter motor itself sounds so refined and that v12 is really something else. I really want to own a db9 someday and i just hope they are not to expensive by then
Fastest Ford Probe ever made. :) Great video as always! Edit: What we've learned from Volkswagen, Hyundai, and even Wal*Mart is that there is more money in selling a lot of cheap things versus a few expensive things.
Reminds me a lot of a 90's BMW 850i! - Raspy v12, the interior layout is similar (the seats in particular) and they are both a sporty gt car! Love your videos!!!
This car is the definition of timeless design for me, outside and inside as well (when you put off the navi system and the screen will turn down). And that makes it special, other exotic cars are groundbreaking during the premiere but then after few years feeling old, but Aston designers made something special. That's probably the reason why even if I'm in love with many other exotic cars, DB9 is the only one I'd like to own as a keeper.
A test of a great design is how it ages. And I think the DB9 is aging like fine wine. Classy and discreet. How many supercars can you say that about? Puts the DB11 to shame IMHO.
Thanks, excellent review and right on spot regarding the feeling of driving one (I am 3 years into a 2005 model ownership). Regarding veneer i believe it is mahoganny like mine. Also, no worry, tpms alerts are displayed on dashboard. Cheers
Great video! Now I have to re-watch the Top Gear race from their test track to Monaco (S04E01). This was the car they had to put in a totally new section, the DB9-section, on their Cool Wall.
This DB9 is just a great cruiser. Tons of torque where it seems effortless. Just a comfortable interior. The DB9 could cruise all day. The only limits are driver endurance and fuel in the tank.
First launched in 2004 and this is still my favourite Aston Martin ever made. And my guess is the European tail is different simply because European number plates are much wider/longer.
My friend has one. Black with a beautiful dark tan interior. Believe it or not only 700 miles. I just was saying to myself tonight when over there what a timeless design. Great video. Thanks
In my opinion, the DB9 is more beautiful than the current new Aston Martin sports car, and the shape is not so angular. The current car design is really not as good as before. Also, I think the steering wheel and part of the interior design of the DB9 is somewhat similar to that of the Lamborghini Murcielago.
Ahh, a cappuccino, and a tedward video to watch as I sit in my acura legend. Thank you for making my mornings and inspiring me to buy this as my project car, would love to have you up to nh to take it for a drive! :)
Beautiful, amazing!! I've heard the best ones to buy are the post-2010's, which had most electronic gizmo's solved. The automatic gearbox is a reliable ZF unit, while the manual uses a Graziano transaxle, if I'm not mistaken. I'm all for the manual, but I wouldn't mind the auto.
So you heard that post 2010 most electronic gizmo's got solved. Um no, any automobile post "2010" has electronic gizmo/software nightmares. If you want a car with all those problems solved then by pre 1980.
Around 2006 was really bad for electronics because manufacturers shifted to lead free solder on all components, there were a lot of electrical problems before they got lead free solder working reliably.
0:18 funny kind of looks like the lines of an S550 mustang. Probably is seeing as how car companies work a decade ahead and Ford owned Aston Martin in this era.
Ye I got one, but not to be cheap. It really is an accomplished car. OK the electronics are as reliable as a drunk driver, but ride is superlative. The engine a smooth as double cream on butter, but over 40mph and 4000rpm the exhaust opens and all hell is let loose. The seats are so comfortable. It is so spacious your passengers are in a different postcode. I have an e61 v10 which is like Samurai sword. This v12 is like a police door opener - coming through. Being a much bigger car other drivers seem to get out of the way. It makes for a very relaxing drive. You can really travel huge distances and arrive as if you have only just got in the car. Enjoy!

I swear this model of the DBS is just amazing, interior is amazing, the v12 when accelerating is just "chefs kiss".
Alright, the double feet taps before entering.. that is a sign of respect, so awesome!
The fact that this has a proper automatic and not the horrible automated manual in the Vantage of this era is a huge savior for it.
You are dead on with this one. Those Single Clutch Vantages are pretty frustrating to drive

Along with Bentleys, I find Aston Martins to age quite well style-wise. They usually don’t look as old as they really are.
If I saw this car on the streets without knowing I’d guess it’s at least a 2010

The chassis was actually designed with the help of Lotus I believe
Believe so to, hence the steering feel.
Ian Callum was the designer, Ford were influenced by his design not the other way around.
Correct, some design elements were already present in the Vanquish BTW and Henryk Fisker polished that too
